Dukes to the Nats?

Featured Replies

Elijah Dukes was ejected in the ninth inning of Thursday's Dominican Winter League and had to be restrained from going after the umpire.

As if he was really going to make it through the whole winter without a blowup. "It got a little ugly," said Jesus Campos, the vice president of the Cibao team Dukes was playing against. "If it wasn't for (teammate) Andy Tracy holding him back, things could have gotten a lot worse. ... It definitely wasn't a safe situation for the umpire because (Dukes) is a big guy." The Rays may have lost their top suitor for Dukes with the Nationals grabbing Lastings Milledge, though we imagine Jim Bowden would still be interested if he came cheap enough. Tampa Bay has an opening in right field for Dukes with Delmon Young gone, but it looks like the team would prefer to go in a difference direction.

In a twisted way, all this shows me is that Dukes has a lot of passion for the game.

He's young, and a lot of hard-headed young players have problems like this. But you have to be a real hungry, competitive player if you're getting upset at calls in meaningless games in another country. The guy obviously cares, and obviously wants to win.

How is Scott Olsen soft? He's 6-foot-5, 200-pounds, and tries to beat up cops... lol

since when is 6'5 200lbs big?

anyway, Dukes is a nut job (still want him on my team, just need to have a police officer on duty at all times)

He wouldn't kick your ass?

probably not

I'll put $10 on it...

And you know he's down.

lol, the board hits a new low

anyway, no matter how you slice it, 6'5 200 isn't big

he's tall, but thats pretty thin for someone with that height

So, is 6'5, 200 small?

Is it moderate? Well, I'd consider moderate someone of average size.

It's certainly not average.

I'd have to go ahead and say he's pretty big.

Dude 200lbs. at 6'5 is not big... Tall but not big...

Timmbbbeeeerrrrr....

I'm 6'6" 200lbs.

I'm not big.

In a contest of strength I could easily lose to somebody under 6 feet, assuming both would be equally 'good' at fighting.

I would not want Dukes in our club house potential or not without some veteran leadership I dont think he would be very beneficial to a young developing team . ..........Dukes is a cancer

Carl Crawford went after an umpire last year, but that was because of a very obvious blown call where he was called out at first when he was a full stride ahead of the throw.

Any idea what Dukes was thrown out for?

So...

RF- Dukes

CF- Milledge

LF- Pena

I kinda love that outfield.

Don't forget Austin Kearns.

I'd have to think Dukes would be the 4th OF or be in AAA in the beginning.

Kearns could be dealt though, I've seen his name come up in a bunch of scuttlebutt.

Yea, thats what I figured.

Yeah I think Kearns is the worst of the four.

My question is what does this due to Nick Johnson since the orginziation has a love affair with Dmitri Young (Who was going to be moved to a corner spot).

At ony 5.5m the next two seasons he's very very cheap...and I personally don't really buy into "injury prone" stuff when several are freak accidents like the broken femur colliding with a teammate or a broken cheekbone from a bad-hop ball. Teams should be all over him...
