March 26, 200818 yr 1. Hanley Ramirez SS 2. Dan Uggla 2B 3. Josh Willingham LF 4. Mike Jacobs 1B 5. Cody Ross CF 6. Jorge Cantu 3B 7. Luis Gonzalez RF 8. Matt Treanor C 9. Mark Hendrickson P Atleast, that's what I would put on the field. Given the circumstances, and assuming Hermida starts the season on the DL, it seems like the best we can muster against Santana. If Hendrickson can keep us in the game, I think the offense can squeeze a run or two out of Santana and possibly another out of the Mets bullpen (assuming we knock Santana out by the 7th inning). If that happens, I think we have a shot but I'm a realist so I won't get my hopes up. My Prediction: 5 - 3 Mets victory Hopefully I'm proven wrong and the Fish pull it out. Feel free to share your opening day lineups and predictions.
March 27, 200818 yr I'm not sure if Ross bats 5th even given his dominance of lefties, but maybe I'm wrong and he wouldn't be an altogether bad fifth batter.
March 27, 200818 yr Author I'm not sure if Ross bats 5th even given his dominance of lefties, but maybe I'm wrong and he wouldn't be an altogether bad fifth batter. The only reason he bats fifth on opening day is because Hermida is out so everyone gets moved up one spot. Ordinarily, he would be in the 6 hole between Jacobs(5) and Cantu(7) against lefties.
March 27, 200818 yr Am I just imagining this, or has Hermida been on the DL to start the last two seasons as well? Or did he get injured just after starting the season?
March 27, 200818 yr Yeah, what's the deal with Hermida? Also, does anyone know how Mike Rabelo fared in ST? I wasn't really keeping track.
March 27, 200818 yr Yeah, what's the deal with Hermida? Also, does anyone know how Mike Rabelo fared in ST? I wasn't really keeping track. Rabelo's injured, as well. It's doubtful that he'll be on the Opening Day Roster.

March 27, 200818 yr does anyone think it is too late to buy tickets for the game?!?! thats a joke right??
March 27, 200818 yr deffinately isnt late to buy tickets to the game lol my lineup 1. Ramirez SS 2. Uggla 2B 3. Gonzalez RF 4. Willingham LF 5. Jacobs 1B 6. Ross CF 7. Cantu 3B 8. Treanor C 9. Hendrickson P I think just like any of the real dominant pitchers your best time to get them is early in the game before they start to settle in. Sucks that Hermida might land on the DL but Gonzalez is just as capable as taking his spot in the lineup. If we can get Hanley on base and do some situational hitting we got a chance. Cantu has been killing the Mets this spring especially with another game like today. I just want that to carry into the regular season, would be a nice boost.
March 27, 200818 yr does anyone think it is too late to buy tickets for the game?!?! thats a joke right?? I have had a hard time getting tickets the past few years, I always ended up having to pay a lot for some highly overpriced upper deck seats when I waited to the last minute to get tickets. As far as getting tickets in general, sure there will be plenty of empty seats. Just not the best bang for the buck.
March 27, 200818 yr Broken record--why is Uggla batting second again!? #1 - it worked before. He can hit well with Hanley bouncing around the bases. Granted, no Cabrera behind him will probably hurt the HR total, but the higher in the order, the more likely he sees good pitches. #2 - who else are you going to put there? Seriously, there's no one else I can figure really suited to the role aside from maybe Hermida, and no one expects him to be ready. Plus, I think most people would rather have Hermida batting third or so having given Hanley a chance to get to second on a steal or a sac bunt, or maybe to third on a flyball. #3 - again, of who's available, what other alternative do we have?
March 27, 200818 yr Author Broken record--why is Uggla batting second again!? Uggla has the power and run production ability to be a good number 5 hitter and he will hopefully be there sometime this season. But until somebody else can assume the leadoff spot (Maybin), Ramirez has to stay there which throws the entire lineup off. Once Maybin gets called up, the lineup should be alot more balanced with uggla in the 5 hole because Hanley would be able to bat third. We might see it eventually look something like this: 1. Maybin 2. Hermida 3. Ramirez 4. Willingham 5. Uggla 6. Jacobs 7. Cantu 8. Robelo/Treanor 9. Pitcher

March 27, 200818 yr Using a lineup generator to maximize runs, and ZIPs projections, this is the best lineup (Note, doesn't take into consideration LHP/RHP splits) (4.752 runs per game): Willingham Hanley Gonzalez Uggla Ross Jacobs Cantu pitcher (just used NL average line) Treanor (Using Hermida instead of Gonzo provides same line up, with Hermida hitting #3)
March 27, 200818 yr Author how about: ramirez uggla hermida willingham jacobs cantu ross rabelo hendrickson Robelo won't be in the opening day lineup and its looking unlikely Hermida will be either.
March 27, 200818 yr Author Nor will Ross be in the starting lineup. good chance he will, actually. We're up against a lefty starter so as long as he's ready to go on opening day he should get the start over left-handed hitting de Aza.
