BK released from Bucs

Featured Replies

My feelings won't be popular but I found Kim entertaining and at least some of the time highly effective but I'm able to lower my expectations for the number five guy in a rotation and some, as is their right, are not.

He's only pitched five innings for Pittsburgh this spring and from what the story says, came into camp not in playing condition. Say what you will about him, he hardly seemed the not in playing shape guy when he was here, both times.

Would I bring him back? Frankly I don't know enough about his health or what shape he is in but if something were to happen to one of the end of rotation guys in the next few days and convinced the FO he was healthy, I would certainly look at him as at least stopgap replacement player.

I remember Kim throwing a complete game last summer for the Fish, giving up nine runs over the course of the game, but if ever a guy took one for the team, it was Kim that night, giving the entire bullpen a well-deserved and much needed rest at the expense of his own arm. You look at his gamelog last season and there was a lot of respectable pitching performances, but every so often like that nine run game, he simply imploded for five, six, seven runs and usually in short order.

When he was on he was at least what you want from your number five guy, when he was off it was painful to watch.

I wish I knew more.

Hell, with all of the injuries we're dealing with, why not bring him on board. We could simply use him until his arm falls off or at least until someone comes snooping around with an interest in him.

Hell yeah, bring him back. He was my favorite Marlin last season. I love when he gets a comebacker to the mound and then rifles it to first base from like 20 feet away. Jacobs would almost get his head taken off. And the balks on every pitch are priceless. The umpires get confused because they don't want to call it everytime. And there's nothing better than watching somebody strikeout on one of Kim's nasty frisbee sliders. It's either a stikeout or homerun so I get pumped up when its a strikeout. This guy throws at least 40 pitches every inning but he's entertaining as hell and I would be thrilled if we got him back assuming he's cheap and healthy enough.

GO GET HIM!

I love BK. Sure he's not that good...But he's entertaining as hell. I still remember when he got called for a balk doing his regular, crazy windup. On the next pitch, he looked straight at the third base ump that called it, and did the same move a little slower and more accentuated.

Plus, with the starting rotation we have, or don't have, he could be very useful.

No. Give Barone, Seddon, or Waecther innings. Same results. At least those first two have a semblance of a chance of being longterm.

add Volstad and Badenhop to that mix, and I'd take either of them over Kim and his ERA of 5 and a half last year. At least those guys have a shot at being good, we know what Kim will be so why not take a chance...that is kind of the theme of the 08 season.

No, they don't get in the mix right now, which is what the "Kim" idea is.

Those two need to be in the minors until at least June. The other three are throwaways. Just like Kim.

Give them BK's innings and you could easily ruin any shot they have for the future. I mean look at our rotation from 06? Besides Dontrelle, they're all technically still here. But Ricky is the only one seemingly ready to go, and he in turn missed tons of last season. The last thing we need to do is overwork the young arms.

Bring back Kim. The guy can eat innings. It may not always be pretty, but when you're thinking long term, how else are we going to protect the younger arms, and in turn, the bullpen? Without a pitcher or two like Kim these guys will be fried. No amount of coaching or anything will allow the new kids to pick up all those innings unless they all are lights out from the get go, and lets be honest, that's unrealistic.

To be fair, Seddon and Waechter don't really have a "future"- they're stop-gap guys. If they're in our future, we're in trouble.

I don't really know about Waecther, but the only thing longterm about Barone or Seddon is a lack of talent.

Hey, you never know who'll pan out to have a good season or two. Who was Josh Johnson before 06, when he led the NL in ERA most of the year?

Even if they are planned to be scrubs who also just eat innings, they won't be able to eat innings on the DL. At least give them time to build up.

Josh Johnson was still a pretty highly regarded prospect IIRC before he had a great year. The three mentioned by Lou are nowhere near that.

:lol :lol Guy is AWFUL!

Whenever I watch Chris Seddon pitch I have to reach for the whiskey bottle.

I'd gladly watch Kim over him any day and having him on the roster probably doesn't damage the team any more than handing the ball to Seddon or Waechter would.

he had a very interesting delivery, almost scary to watch him pitch at times, but I could have more faith in him over seddon, wachter, or barone.

Hey why do you still have julio as still our guy when he is busy rotting in arizona?

Ok, forgetting about Barone, Seddon, or Waecther for a moment, we do have plenty of good arms that need protection. You remember that Mitre guy who was probably our most consistent guy for half of last season? You won't see much of him this year I think, probably on account of the fact that he more than tripled his IP last season. Should I even get started on Sanchez and Johnson, and their IP in 06? Not just for these guys if and when they come back, but for the other kids just coming up, we need someone who will eat up a lot of innings, especially with Dontrelle gone. Again, seeing as how we have no expectation of major success this season, why fuss over the ERA given the options we have?

Arguments over ERA this season are going to be a moot point. We need to get out there and put a ton of runs on the board. The way things are going, it's going to be a revolving door in the roatation. Why not get someone that gives us a little extra flexibility? It's not like he did much worse than the rest of the roation last year, (while he was in a Marlins uniform).

5.42 ERA to go with 62 walks and 114 hits allowed in 110 innings. That was in 23 appearences with us last year including 19 starts. I would like to think an inning eater would average more than 4.90 innings per start. The only guy who did considerabley worse than that was Vandenhurk.

Kim's ability to swallow innings has been completely exaggerated by alot of people. He is overrated as an inning eater and he obviously doesn't make up for it with talent.

Irony......... Sarcasm...... Rubbing it in(his failure).... Just a few reasons why I would think he still has it on his sig.

he pitched pretty decent for us last season, i would deffinately take him.

Since when does giving up more hits than innings pitched qualify as decent? Not to mention a bloated ERA to go along with 5+ walks per 9 innings.

Why does everyone seem to have the misconception that Kim was actually good for us last year? Forget the fact that he was garbage, he was even bad at the one thing everyone says he was useful for, inning eating. How does a guy who barely averaged 5 innings per start for us last year going to protect the young arms? We got nearly the same amount of innings per start out of VandenHurk last year. The numbers don't lie people.

Kim isn't the solution to protecting the young arms. If we truly wanted to save the bullpen for the dog days of August and September and protect the up and coming starters, we should have signed Livan when we had the chance. That is somebody who can eat innings, Kim isn't.
