Hermida, Rabelo off to Jupiter

Hermida, Rabelo to rehab in Minors

Marlins right fielder, catcher to start for Class A on Thursday

By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

MIAMI -- While the Marlins are off on Thursday, a couple of projected regulars will be taking part in Minor League action.

The Class A Jupiter Hammerheads open their season on Thursday, and right fielder Jeremy Hermida and catcher Mike Rabelo both are scheduled to be in the starting lineup.

Both players are on the Major League disabled list, retroactive to March 21, meaning they are eligible to be activated to the big league squad on Saturday.

Hermida, who is recovering from a strained left hamstring, may end up being activated on Saturday. Rabelo, meanwhile, projects to be a little bit longer.

Rabelo is hampered by a left knee sprain, and he is slated to catch about five innings on Thursday.

Hermida has no restrictions on how many innings he can play. He is slated to play on Thursday and Friday for Jupiter.

The timetable for Rabelo could be closer to mid-month as he gets back into game shape.

Paul Hoover, on the active roster because Rabelo is on the disabled list, made his first start for the Marlins on Wednesday night against the Mets.

Hoover was giving Matt Treanor, who caught 10 innings on Tuesday, a breather.

Good News.... :thumbup

We need a healthy Hermida back in the lineup ASAP!

Yes, and we need him hitting second. I love Uggla, but he doesn't make enough contact to hit second. He should be hitting 5th or 6th..

I wondering if Fredi is ever gona make that move. Think about it, Hermidas OBP skills coming after Hanley. Especially since teams have been carefull with Hanley so far this year. Who would we put in the 3 though. Ugglas RISP is way too low. Jacobs, no way. Although Willingham produced he still batted 265. I think unless we have a real number 3 hitter, Hermida is the best option at this point.

I Know!!! This is such an obvious move it better be done. Uggla's numbers may decrease because a little if he moves to 5th or 6th but he should be moved there anyway. He doesn't draw a lot of walks and will never have a high on base percentage. If Fredi is intent on having Hanley leadoff then the lineup should be the following

Hanley

Hermida

Hammer

Jacobs

Uggla

Cantu

Ross/Treanor

Treanor/Amezaga

Pitcher

I agree. That lineup looks great. Uggla just isn't hitting for average and his OBP is not particularly high either. His power numbers are still good, though. *Counts down the days until Hermida returns* :whistle

I really think it's time to put our CF in the leadoff spot and move Hanley to the 3 hole. On last year's team it wasn't quite as important, but it's basically got to be done this year.

I agree. Maybe we should see something like this.

Amezaga

Hermida

Hanley

Hammer

Jacobs

Uggla

Cantu

Treanor

Hammer and Jacobs can be interchangable at 4th and 5th

I wouldn't put Jacobs ahead of Uggla. The last two yeras Uggla was clearly the better hitter. I would like Hanley hitting 3rd but we don't have anyone else to lead-off.

Agustin Septimo called out on strikes.

Mike Rabelo strikes out swinging.

Jeremy Hermida doubles (1) on a fly ball to left fielder Daryl Jones.

maybe the thinking in having jacobs before uggla is that jacobs would see better pitches in the fear you would like to keep uggla's extra bases hits ones with no one on base

By game's end, Hermida had a double, a pop-out, a strikeout, a GIDP and a walk (intentional). Rabelo struck-out twice, flied-out once.

Please let Hermida get hot (or at least warm) before we bring him back up, please. When Hermida is off his game it's painful to watch. Maybe a few days or a week in AA would be his next stop.

Off-topic, but don't you think that's overlooked a bit when people critique Uggla? I know his average took a big hit from 06 to 07, but he actually walked more which is at least promising.

Course it also says something about our team that Uggla was second in walks...

He walked 68 times, that isn't bad. That's why his drop in BA was not the big deal so many people make it out to be. His OBP stayed essentially the same.

I agree with you but I thought according to sabermetrics Uggla had a big decline from '06 to '07 due to his OBP.

2007 .326

Is that a big decline?

Not according to me but some people are of the opinion that Uggla had a big drop off in production from '06 to '07 and since his SLG was virtually the same (.001 difference) I think the drop off, according to them, was caused by the decline in OBP.

9-10 times on base in a full season. Not huge at all. But he was about 6th best in 2006 and was more like 10th last season.
