Eddie Altamonte
Our Marlins have been outstanding so far but they can improve so much yet Adding a healthy Anibal to the rotation will solidify this rotation tenfolds. Dallas McP looks like he is ready for a callup already Placing him at 3rd and putting Cantu in a platoon with Jake will be a defensive upgrade that will give a little more stability to both 1st and 3rd. CF still needs to work itself out either by the return of ADA or by giving Carroll a chance to take it over, or in best scenario Mayybin showing the maturity of a MLB player. I can't wait for Volsted and company to be called up in September
JonDigital
Why mess with Cantoo at third? He has done well.
EricWiener
Platooning Cantu with Jake is a downgrade. McPherson needs to prove he can play a full season, and his PCL stats are kind of meaningless. Maybe if Cantu falthers and McPherson is still healthy in July/August we could see a change. CF is going to improve because Ross will not continue to stink up the lineup. Maybin is probably, at least, 2 seasons away. The only way this team is going to significantly improve the lineup will be to go outside the organization for talent, and there is no change of that unless the team is in the mix at the All-star break. That guy has never even come close to putting up numbers that Cantu put up a couple years ago. Also McPherson hasnt played 100 games in the majors in the 3 years he had been called up. Also the numbers He's putting up in AAA are similar to those of Cantu's and hes playing in the minors. Let McPherson hit 400 and slug 700 in Albuquerque then bring him up. Until then let him chill there and maybe we can use him next year, after we allow Cantu to walk. Calling up McPherson who is putting up inflated numbers in the PCL and who is currently playing in the outfield probably because of his horrifying defensive numbers as a 3B shouldn't even be considered right now. PitchingWinsGames
It's my belief that Cantu will be traded before he is just "let walk"'d... I think that was "the plan" all along, to let Cantu drive his value up and then trade him (and others) at the ASB... obviously if we're in first place (or reasonably back) it changes things

Nny
I was for calling up McPherson a few days ago when Cantu dipped under .750 OPS, but he's hot again. Ride Cantu while he's hot. If Cantu starts struggling again, then you can think about changing things. But you don't touch somebody when they're hot.
Erick
...and the big deal about McPherson right now is?
Sirspud
I really don't see why people are so down on Cantu all the time. Just let him play and he is going to put up a reasonable season (with its ups and downs) of about a .280 avg, 20 or so homers and 80 or so RBI. Thats really not that bad. Sure, we could do a lot better, but we could also do a lot worse, and in the end he is still going to produce his fair share.
Admin
Why is MacPherson owed the 3B spot when he has never played well at the ML level while Cantu has and currently is doing fine at the moment?
ILuvCraigMinervini
I have to wonder why anyone is talking about changing anything right now when things are going well. I think we have to wait and see how everything looks once the regulars are back and the pitching rotation is solidified. Good performance in the minors does not equate with major league production by any stretch of the imagination. I definitely would not consider adding anymore grizzled veterans rescued from the scrap heap right now. With the depth in the outfield, I think putting someone in as a makeshift cf is the best option for now. I would say adding a veteran starting pitcher could be an option if it ends up looking like this team is the real deal this year. I would not abandon the long term vision for this team and give up young talent for old help unless we are really in the thick of things come July. LordMagnus
The only thing we need is a center fielder who can hit better. I wish we could move Hermida to center field, and move Gonzalez to right field when Hammer comes back. But this might not be the best move defensively. CyggyMarlin
Best start EVER!!!... It ain't broke, don't f*** with it... unless it's a solid veteran starting pitcher being brought in Otherwise, with the exception of Hammer and Jacobs coming back, nothing else should be changed... Schnellders
for all we know maybin may sort out his troubles and be ready by mid-season hence no need to go out and splash the cash on a veteran CF
Eddie Altamonte
for all we know maybin may sort out his troubles and be ready by mid-season hence no need to go out and splash the cash on a veteran CF I wanna clarify that iI don't feel that Cantu has played poorly I am more concerned about 1st base where Jake has been oft-injured Cantu would play there and Dallas McP can man 3rd, so far he is healthy and has played good defense. He is hitting .300 with 10 homers even though the PCL is a softball league, there has been a boost to his confidence level. He is not owed 3rd base but he would be a strong addition to this team as good as it has been it might be even better with Cantu at 1st and Dallas at 3rd. Jake has been strong he would be a great platoon upon return
MarlinFan10
Moar cowbell!! Also, getting Mitre and Anibal back. Otherwise, what is there to fix? Our only flaw is the the rotation.

I have nothing against Cody, but I really don't think he's that good of a player. Last year he had some good numbers, but in a limited role. Career-wise he's really nothing more that a 4th or 5th outfielder.

If we could get a real, every day CF, then our bench would be superb.
