May 31, 200818 yr Horrible game all around. Hitting died after the first and the pitching we horrendous. Hopefully we can show up tomorrow with a different approach.
May 31, 200818 yr we don't have a day off before we get "back on the horse"..... hopefully that's good....this team is frustrating at times. but there are also times(when we're doing well) that I scratch my head....wondering how we're doing it....
May 31, 200818 yr Well...it's tough to maintain a consistent amount of success, when: -The SP's go 5 innings max, just about every game (has any SP gone more than 5 since the Arizona series?) -The bullpen is all of the sudden top 3 in MLB in innings pitched...it's a good bullpen, but it can only be good for so long, with that kind of work. -Came in to the game Wednesday with a batting average that was 13th in the NL with .RISP. -Hanley, Hermida, and Jacobs have done nothing for about 2 weeks now...add that to the fact that Willingham is injured, it really is amazing that we're still scoring at a decent clip. But it has to change. It's just not a good recipe...hopefully, we see a change, somehow...and sooner rather than later.

May 31, 200818 yr Its all good right now, this has happened before where we lose 3 games in a row. we just gotta get our pitching back to the way it was in Arizona, when they were pitching like they were just won the cy young award.

May 31, 200818 yr They're saying Hanley's injury isn't serious but how is he going to grip a bat when he can't make a full fist with his left hand? I'll give Hendrickson two more starts. If he's still crap, he needs to swap roles with Waechter.

This series has had me worried. The Phillies bats have come alive recently. But our guys showed why I haven't thought we were real play off contenders. Still too immature. All those pop ups show that they see those short fields and are swinging for the fences, instead of making good contact. Look at that first inning just as an example. We should have scored more runs and put their pitcher on the bench. He couldn't find the strike zone, Uggla comes to bat and swings at the very first pitch and pops it up. Immaturity at the plate. So while Hendrickson gave up all those runs, you can't blame him for the 11 pop ups. The Phillies had a guy warming up in the pen in the 1st inning and we didn't close it out. Meyers should have been out of the game right then instead of letting him settle in and going 8 innings. Who knows what happens after that. IMO, the TEAM lost this one before Mark threw one pitch. This series is going to be high scoring and we need to get things done when the opportunities show themselves. Be patient at the plate, swing for contact, forget those short fields and trying to be a hero every AB, and play errorless baseball.

It's hard to blame a team for a loss because we only scored 3 runs in the first inning instead of 5 or 6. Mark should have pitched better. He left pitches up and he got hit hard. The other thing is that the game was poorly called. You don't pitch any of these guys up. On Uttleys Hr you actually saw Treanor stand up and ask for the ball to be up. I'm not blaming Treanor because he could have been following a scouting report. Whatever the reason was , you can't pitch guys up in this park with this lineup.
