All we gotta do is maintain striking distance until Anibal/JJ/Mitre/Volstad are ready... by then, we can afford to ship out Hendrickson, demote Waechter if need be and boot Nolasco to the bullpen and still have room for two of those four we're waiting for to still be healing/being groomed. We just gotta hold our breath and dive into the rest of the season... Keep in mind, we're still also waiting for Hammer to get back, and Hermida to eventually shake this funk he's in, and if he doesn't we can shift Gonzo over. We have a lot of flexibility to make stuff happen... it's a pretty good time to be a Marlins fan, all things considered

I mean, to stay within striking distance with the starting rotation we've thrown out there to this point, that's all I can ask for.
June 15, 200818 yr I guess I'm the only one not expecting much from Sanchez, Mitre, and to a lesser extent, Johnson?
June 15, 200818 yr Author I guess I'm the only one not expecting much from Sanchez, Mitre, and to a lesser extent, Johnson? No sir.
June 15, 200818 yr can any tell me the time table for jj. is he going to keep starting in low a ball or is he going to jupiter for 2 then to carolina or what. anybody know anything about him. and when is anibal supposed to come back to start rehabing
June 15, 200818 yr I guess I'm the only one not expecting much from Sanchez, Mitre, and to a lesser extent, Johnson? May i ask why aren't you expecting much from JJ,sanchez, and mitre?
June 15, 200818 yr because they are coming back from injuries is why they dont expect much but i say they will be fine except for mitre because he doesnt seem to be ready and i have a feeling they will rush him back.
June 15, 200818 yr I guess I'm the only one not expecting much from Sanchez, Mitre, and to a lesser extent, Johnson? It's not that I expect them to come back at 100% and/or be lights out... it's just that, at this point... Mitre's injury actually saves him from accumulating a ton of innings, which is a wildcard factor with him, because he's never thrown a ton at the ML level, so, if we get last year's first half Mitre in the second half, I'd consider that a major upgrade over Hendrickson at this point... The rotation then becomes (in no particular order): Mitre Olsen Miller Nolasco Tucker Then, God-willing, Volstad bumps out Nolasco/Tucker and either of them goes into the pen, where they'll be a lot better, all things considered... with that situation presenting itself Mitre Olsen Miller Volstad They become the all but "undisputed" top 4, and you can ride whoever's hot in Nolasco and Tucker in the 5 spot, seeing as they both can go multiple innings this season, down the road, that may not be an option for Tucker if he takes the closers spot, but for now, we can work with it. Anything, and I pretty much mean anything Anibal/JJ gives us will be gravy, even if it's only 2-3 starts a piece where they do alright but are shut down as a precautionary measure. And I say that because that's just less innings our starters need to go, prolonging their arms this season. Every little bit counts...
June 15, 200818 yr I guess I'm the only one not expecting much from Sanchez, Mitre, and to a lesser extent, Johnson? Johnson's the only one I think can possibly contribute much this season, and it's pushing it even with him.
June 15, 200818 yr I guess I'm the only one not expecting much from Sanchez, Mitre, and to a lesser extent, Johnson? no, but I'd certainly rather watch them instead of Hendrickson. I'd rather watch Badenhop instead of Hendrickson, to be honest.

June 15, 200818 yr I guess I'm the only one not expecting much from Sanchez, Mitre, and to a lesser extent, Johnson? May i ask why aren't you expecting much from JJ,sanchez, and mitre? Sanchez's injuries are so severe that it is doubtful he'll ever be the same ever again. It's even more likely that he'll be perpetually plagued by nagging injuries. Johnson is likely to be injury prone himself, but my issue with him stems from that I feel the people of this forum overrate his ability. His stuff is lacking compared to many of the other arms in the organization. It is highly doubtful he will put up anything close to 2006 numbers. Mitre might not have thrown many innings at the major league level consistently, but minor league innings should certainly count if this is an issue of arm strength. His success in the majors is severely limited and he's never been highly regarded as a good pitcher. His horrid 2007 second half is more likely a matter of league adjustment and return to normalcy rather than pure arm tiring. I'd argue that Mitre is a decent 5th starter, at best. Basically I'm saying that if we get contributions from any of these guys, then great, but I think it is rather irrational to be expecting it.

He had a torn labrum or "baseball's worst injury." It's ended countless careers and only a small percentage have returned to normal performance levels.
June 15, 200818 yr I never thought much of Anibal Sanchez. Am I the only one who thinks he has, at best, average stuff?

I didn't know it was that bad.
June 15, 200818 yr I guess I'm the only one not expecting much from Sanchez, Mitre, and to a lesser extent, Johnson? You're not. These guys haven't pitched in ages. They won't be "lights out" when they come back.
June 15, 200818 yr Why do many people want to get Nolasco out of the rotation so badly? I feel more confident when he starts than any of our other starters except for maybe Olsen. Olsen,Miller,Nolasco all give us a chance to win on any given night...Tucker I think will get there as his control gets better...Hendrickson just sucks and any of the guys being mentioned would be an upgrade over him.
June 15, 200818 yr The point I'm trying to make is that Sanchez will probably never really pitch again and you can't really count on Johnson and Mitre to immediately outproduce Hendrickson to outright replace him. Is Hendrickson really pitching below expectations? Not mine.
June 15, 200818 yr He's doing about what I expected of him...but he's not pitching up to my expectations for a starter on a contending team. I think Johnson or Mitre would eventually be better options than him, but I'd much rather have someone like Waechter or Badenhop getting those innings.
June 15, 200818 yr I don't think much of Mitre in general, but he should be an upgrade over Hendrix I think JJ will do quite well I have no expectations for Sanchez, anything positive he can bring is a bonus, his injury was awful

Is Hendrickson really pitching below expectations? Not mine. I'm going to have to agree with this post. I actually expected Hendrickson to do worse, to be honest. I still think, however, you gotta go with any young guy who might have a future with this team, over a struggling Hendrickson. I mean, seriously, is there a point in having Hendrickson in the rotation, if he's not going to produce? At least with the younger guys, they're either... a) going through growing pains, in the big leagues or b) a part of the team's future
