Offers for Pudge

Featured Replies

If we do make an offer to DET for Pudge, what would that deal look like? Would there be other player included as well as Pudge? Who would we give up? etc.

Baseball Mogul seems to think we can do a Cody Ross for Pudge deal, but I don't know if that could happen.

Detroit's only 5 games out, they aren't going to be selling anyone.

I think Inge would be closer to available if contention is an issue. Although I wouldnt mind getting jones back too in a deal.

Inge is most likely available, but he doesn't want to play catcher regularly so he doesn't help us out that much.

i'd perfer someone who doens't injure their shoulders via moving pillows.

After seeing Lo Duca play tonight, I think he would be a decent option. Washington shouldn't ask for a whole lot. Maybe a Harvey Garcia for Lo Duca deal.

why not bring back Pudge! (are we still paying him his deferred money?) as long as we are paying he should play for us as well....

can Inge play first?

Lo Duca I wouldn't mind, Inge I would mind, Pudge would be cool...

however..

Cody Ross for Pudge I do not agree with at all, Cody is a clutch player and he needs to stay here.

Cody is hitting .226, .220 with RISP and has an OBP of .281. What exactly is clutch about him.

Not that I think there is any chance in hell of this happening but if Detroit offered Pudge straight up for Ross it would be moronic not to take it even if Pudge were only here through 2008. But... ain't gonna happen. :whistle

Is LoDuca really an upgrade over what we have now? Personally, I think Paul is a step in the wrong direction. I'm also assuming that he won't be cheap.

lol last time I checked clutch has nothing to do with numbers....

...

Would you say a clutch situation is late in a game with a close score?

.316/.341/.658

But now you'll say that the numbers prove it for ya...

There's a stat for pretty much everything by the way

idk im not much of a numbers guy... i just watch the game and see what I see... HR's late in games and solid play in center do it for me...

"95% of stats can be made to say anything........ 50% of the time" (commercial lol)

only numbers i care about

outs, runs, strikes, balls, inning number, Hendriksons number isnt on the mound, pitch count, hanleys all star votes.

i do care about the numbers...its nice to have good numbers, but i think its cause im fairly fresh out of playing the game that I dont think about the numbers I think about the game and take it day by day... kinda like Uggla if you read the SI article about him....

either way, I dont think Pudge will be coming this way, I dont think that we could straight up trade Cody for him and I dont think that we will trade Cody anyway.

What I would like to see...

A trade with the Nats to get LoDuca... but... I would also LOVE to see (and you all might disagree with me.. and i honestly dont know about his numbers this year) Aaron Boone back on our team.... if we made a trade and got both of those guys... id be pretty happy about that... (implying that the trade would involve Jake)

If Dallas didnt work out up here or needed more time, and we tried sanchez out and he did the same then it would be nice to have a guy like A. Boone (although Helms fills a very similar role) to fill some time on the corners...

Offense:
LoDuca 2008: .208/.288/.264
Treanor 2008: .241/.301/.301

LoDuca 2007: . 272/.311/.378
Treanor 2007: .269/.357/.392

LoDuca is not the answer.

We also don't need Boone as long as we have Helms.

There's no way the Tigers are trading Pudge. They're back in the race. Lo Duca is a realistic target. If he's healthy he would be a major upgrade and with all the time he's missed he would be fresh down the stretch.

OK, that's the 90th person...

Someone, please explain to me, preferably using facts, what makes LoDuca a "major upgrade"?

Last night was a perfect example. An HR and a double. He has excellent stats when it comes to driving in runs; including, when there are two outs. As far as behind the plate, I do not see too many past balls get by him. Even if he is not a major upgrade, he is improvement to the current situaton, and it shows the fans the Marlins are seriously looking to be playing in October. It will be a move that both the local and national media will agree with and perhaps even attendence will rise.

So, because of two days work, he's an major upgrade? His numbers over the last two years, both offensively and defensively, have been equal or worse than those of Treanor's.

The Marlins organization (in light of the Mitchell Report, he used performance enhancing drugs HERE and his broken hand is a chronic problem as the Marlins know all too well) has washed their hands of Paul LoDuca. What you heard last night from PL was the same lament you heard from Cliff Floyd when he couldn't find work and all of a sudden went from being a Marlins hater to a guy who "...would just to finish my career in South Florida".

Gee no Paul. Anyone notice him limping around third base last night? This is what happens to catchers. The mind is strong, but the body has been broken too many times in too many places to ever heal itself. Play out the season, teach the kid with Nats what you know and find a coaching/broadcasting/scouting gig or just go fishing.

You've had a darn good career, go out with your head up.
