Dallas Mcpherson

Featured Replies

I don't see the point of this....when you can just as easily put Cantu at first where he is arguably much better defensively, and then have McPherson play third.

But this team really needs some kind of spark right now. Keeping this guy in the minors is crazy.

It was just an observation... With Jason Wood playing third who usually plays first and Mcpherson playing first when he usually plays third just seemed like something of note with all of Jakes struggles.

This reminds me of the year we had Rob Stratton in AAA and he was pounding homers day-in and day-out....everyone wanted him up in the majors, but he didn't even get a call in September. Of course, he wasn't competing for a starting job in Spring Training like Dallas was (and I'm assuming the front office believes Dallas has more of a future here than Rob did).

Rob Stratton. +1 for bringing back that name! :thumbup

Just a little blurb in the Herald about trading Jacobs and possibly moving McPherson to 3rd with Cantu going to 1st

"? One veteran National League scout said it would make sense for the Marlins to trade Mike Jacobs -- ''he would have value, especially for an American League team as a DH'' -- either for a third baseman (with Jorge Cantu moving to first); or for pitching or catching help (with Cantu at first and Wes Helms and Dallas McPherson platooning at third). McPherson (.306) leads the minors in homers with 30 but is striking out in 38.5 percent of his at-bats, and Marlins executive Admin Beinfest said it's beneficial for him to play everyday at Triple A for now.

A less complicated trade option would be dealing a mid- or lower-level prospect for Reds catcher David Ross, whom the Marlins like. . . . Good news for the Marlins: Although Cantu signed a one-year deal as a free agent last winter, the Marlins own his rights the next two years, as long as the team offers him arbitration."

I saw Dallas play last night in Abluquerque...send him up NOW! Even though he Kd twice, he also had a 1B and 2B. He fielded VERY well and he can run too...we need Dallas

yea we all want dallas but jakes heating up and would start unless he gets traded

so dallas would have 2 wait 4 injury or 4 jake to really f***s up wit management

hell prob be up in late august or spetermber

Dallas' K/BB isn't the impediment to recalling him. In June/July he has a 32/22 K/BB in 106 ABs. It's not great, but when combined with his other skills (power) shouldn't keep him at AAA.

Playing Dallas at 1st might not be a bad idea; are there any scouting reports on his defense at 1B compared to his defense at 3B?

I might be wrong about this but this but thinking about the number of plays a third baseman vs a firstbaseman make in an average game, McPherson would probably be "safer" (thinking back issues) at third than across the diamond. Just a thought.

Dallas is a ball player, he isn't going to care if he is seeing more balls at 1st than 3rd of if its safer at 3rd...

To play you have to have confidence, and Dallas should go into it with confidence if called up...

So it shouldn't matter which side of the infield he is playing

What would happen if we trade jacobs, call up mcpherson, and then he ends up being terrible. I'm not trying to be negative, i just wanna know what our fall back plan will be.

He's going to the PCL All-Star game, he's been getting better and better defensively over the last month and a half, he's leading all of baseball in homeruns, he has 69 rbi, he's a former major leaguer and top prospect whose career was ended not because of his play but because of hip and back injuries that led to surgery to remove a disk and two vertebrae being fused together. He was the PCL player of the week two weeks ago.

I guess what I'm suggesting is he's not going to be terrible, chances are good he'll be good if not more than that if that's your fear. More likely if there is a downside it is another injury or a recurrance of his hip or back problems which can happen to any player.

The back up plan? I'd say, Helms or Andino or a trade for a stopgap thirdbaseman. Or you could leave Cantu at third and consider bringing up Gaby Sanchez (.303/.406/.875) who is tearing the cover off the ball. Or Helms or Gonzo at frst. And there's probably a number of other options that don't come to mind this second.

I'd be more worried about his health (back) than anyting else but he maintains he hasn't felt this good in five years (recent radio interview) and his play would seem to confirm it.

why would him playing good be my fear? I'm just satung just becuase he is doing good in Triple-A doesnt mean he will do good here. What i am scared of is if he gets injured again and our back up plan has to be gaby sanchez or wes helms. But i still wanna trade jacobs and call him up to give him a shot. :D

Being cautious about a recurrence of his back problems is a legitimate worry, I was trying to say he's performing at a high level in AAA and has major league experience so I didn't think the likelihood "he ends up being terrible" which I took from your post to be your main concern.

Miller you are overrating Jacobs value to the team just because he has a lot of home runs. He can be replaced offensively. And the defense will benefit from it overall.

You my friend are overestimating the importance of first base defense. Jacobs is a decent first basemen, if you replace him with even the best first basemen in the entire world and it won't make a difference.

Anyway, first base is not a concern for this team.

Are you serious? If you think the First baseman with the worst fielding percentage in the league is decent... I can't imagine what you think is bad...and the whole point is that we need better defense at 3rd so moving Cantu from third will help the team defensively.

well whether is mcpherson or jacobs...all they have to do is hold down the fort for a few years till logan morrison is ready to take over....tho i say that we have to find some way to get dallas up to the majors...whether its trade jacobs or what...just FIND A WAY
