July 6, 200818 yr ok, breathe into a paper bag ...what would you like them to do with a f*ing 20 million dollar payroll DRAFT BETTER ! It saves you money ! :whistle You grow and groom your own talent, instead of having to trade and hope to get back as much talent as you send out. When you don't draft well, it also means you will have to spend money on FA's which are always higher priced than home-grown talent.
July 6, 200818 yr b/c the NL West sucks :whistle What does this year have to do with last? :whistle Who was the Marlins GM when they last WON (unlike the Rockies) the World Series? :whistle And who put together most of the talent on that 2003 team ? Most came from Dombrowski, who by the way rebuilt the Tigers from scratch and 3 years later they were in the WS....right ? Beinfest walked into a job where he had most of the major pieces in place, and just needed to make a tweak here and there, and VIOLA, a winner. This time, this whole thing is his baby, every last one of them. Take his position players, they are his draftees, FA's, and trades. They look like a .500 team at best. The others have done it with a lot of homegrown draft talent in the field. Beinfest can't claim any as draft choices except for Willingham, Andino & Hermida. The Colorado team tonight started 5 players drafted by the Rockies. This is where Beinfest is weakest, and he needs to step up the drafts, or this team will never be able to progress. Which is why he and the Florida Marlins drafted Top Prospect Kyle Skipworth - Catcher seems like a pretty good move to me. I dont have any complaints.
July 6, 200818 yr this thread is trash we win a few games in a row (embarassing fashion, I know) but that doesnt mean that this season is over. there are plenty of games to be played we just need our good pitchers to come back from injuries and we need to acquire a good bullpen arm... we are by no means at a "breaking point".... you might be, but I'm not most of the games we've lost recently have been because our pen couldn't hold the lead.... not cuz we got out "played"
July 6, 200818 yr Which is why he and the Florida Marlins drafted Top Prospect Kyle Skipworth - Catcher seems like a pretty good move to me. I dont have any complaints. Skipworth is at best a 4 year project if not 5 years. I doubt he plays with anyone on the current roster.
July 6, 200818 yr I don't quite understand what your expectations are. Miracles, I think. Win some, lose some. That's the way a .500 team goes. If we lost last night 5 to 1 instead of 18-17, this thread wouldn't exist.
July 6, 200818 yr Im not even going to comment on this thread... so much I want to say, so much I shouldn't say, and it would be both of those things.
July 6, 200818 yr Can't we just admit we don't have the talent on this team to win. The 1st half of the season just seems to be a mirage. I think the 100 loss season is far-fetched but the way the team is looking now, 90 losses is not out of the realm of possibility. Its really sad, this could be such a successful franchise with wise management, and not with that cheap b*stard Loria. Amazing how people overreact to a few losses in a row. This series has sucked...no doubt, but if Gregg doesn't blow saves the past two games this team would be on its way to 90 wins, but with the two blown saves they are bound for 90 losses. I know this series has been tough to watch, but this team isn't nearly as bad as they have looked the past three games...just as they weren't as good as they looked when they were 10 games over .500 last month. Read my other post. 8 and 1 against really good up and coming teams (Rays and Rockies). There is no mistake why we have 1 win against them, and its because we just don't have the talent, and that my friends is at the feet of Admin Beinfest. You can continue to call him a great GM, but I think he is mediocre at best and we could do a lot better. His drafts especially at the top, are really dung-heaps. How many of his 6 1st round picks are starting for this team ? 1 I believe and that is Hermida, and he if he was a FA tomorrow, I doubt he would be a really hot commodity. Of his 1st round picks add Tank. The others are going to be here sooner rather than later, in most cases. Vostad may even join this week end. The only real flop in his 1st round choices would be Allison. Sinkbeil and Dominguez will be here soon enough, Skippy in a few years. That's not even mentioning the comp draft picks between the 1st and 2nd round. You can't expect to draft guys and have them MLB ready just because you say they should be. Just because you demand things happen NOW dosen't mean that's how things work in the real world. "Dung-heaps'??? Far from it. Not to mention guys that were 1st round picks of other teams that we have aquired through trades. If ya can't get em one way, get em another if it fits the long term plan. And it does. I recently put a list together and posted ALL the draft choices that are currently on our 40 man roster that were Admin picks. The list was rather long. And I look at the total draft, not just the "star" names. Things are going right on schedule. But talking long term plans and having patience to some fans is like telling a 2 year old to be patient. It's a waste of time.

Your posts are saying you think they should all be ready NOW. Growing and grooming is exactly what we are doing.

We have 5 billion pitchers that we've drafted (or traded for), all ready to compete for the rotation over the next couple of years. We've got a stadium deal working and salary will rise soon enough. Meanwhile no one figured we'd even be competing this season and we're pushing the Phillies for the division lead. Climb back off the ledge.

If someone would have said during the winter that we'd be 3.5 games out of first on July 6th they would have gotten trashed all over this board. Yes, the last couple of games have been painful to watch, but take a step back and look at the big picture. If we win the 1st 2 games in Colorado, nobody is questioning Beinfest. Because we lost those games it is Beinfest and his drafting skill's fault. When things go wrong I guess people have blame someone. I'm sure that there are plenty of Rockies fans questioning their GM right now despite going to the World Series last year. Like I said before, we are extremely lucky to be in this position. Without even taking payroll into account, this team has had to survive the first 4 months of the season without it's top 3 starters. That would cripple most teams.
July 6, 200818 yr i have to agree the front office has made some bad selections in the past, they passed on Kazmir for Hermida is one and passed on Jacoby Ellsbury for Volstad. Its just a few names but those names could have change the Marlins franchise completely. just a thought
July 6, 200818 yr WOW dude talk about fair weather fan...this team is exciting take it for what it is. Oh and we have plenty of talent in the minors so I don't know WTF you are talking about, we had about 5 minor leaguers make the All-Star game... so give me a break.
July 6, 200818 yr i have to agree the front office has made some bad selections in the past, they passed on Kazmir for Hermida is one and passed on Jacoby Ellsbury for Volstad. July 6, 200818 yr Okay, stop rooting for the Marlins all together then. But once the team is hot again and you jump on the bandwagon again, you will prove that you are indeed a turd sandwich.

Its just a few names but those names could have change the Marlins franchise completely. just a thought I hate when people say things like this. You can do the same thing with any team. There are always examples of teams passing on players that have gone on and become stars. It's very easy to look back 3 or 4 years later and say GM X screwed up by not taking player Y. People think Billy Bean is a genius. He also passed on Ellsbury in 2005(he went 23rd, so lots of teams also passed on him) and took a SS named Cliff Pennington. Does Bean not know what he's doing either?

Exactly. Let the guy pitch a game first before proclaiming drafting him was a mistake.
July 6, 200818 yr the year Ellsbury was drafted the Marlins had 4 first round selection which they took all pitchers with those selections, if there plan was to load up on pitchers that year why not take a guy that going into that draft had lead his Oregon st to the college world series with one of there selections. As for the Hermida selection that year Kazmir was the best pitcher in the draft and fell because of signability questions. The funny thing is he signed for pretty much the same money Hermida sign for coming out of Georgia.
July 6, 200818 yr fauowls, how come you don't post on the Heat board as much anymore? We could use your level headedness
July 6, 200818 yr fauowls, how come you don't post on the Heat board as much anymore? We could use your level headedness Which Heat board? The one on Realgm? I read it all the time and post every now and then. Not much to say I suppose. I like what the Heat are doing...I thought the draft was great. I guess i'm just waiting for some moves to be made. There's been a lot of speculation, but not much action so far. When something happens, I'll post.
July 6, 200818 yr We have 5 billion pitchers that we've drafted (or traded for), all ready to compete for the rotation over the next couple of years. I think all of the 5 billion have stunk in the minors this year except for De La Cruz, Volstad and Tucker and De La Cruz and Tucker have stunk in the majors. Out of the 5 billion the only one that's highly regarded by experts who are not team employees is Volstad. All the others are MIA in all the top prospects list. '08 is not a good year for our pitching prospects.
July 6, 200818 yr I too feel very frustrated and angry about our recent loses and this team's low payroll. But I also realize that this year's surprise start has been a bonus that no one expected. Let Beinfest work his magic. Don't be overly depressed about this year. Look forward to 2010 or 2011. This team has been built for a 2010 or 2011 WS run, and when we get a new stadium, hopefully a yearly shot at the playoffs thereafter.
July 6, 200818 yr Despite all the crap that has gone on in the last month's worth of baseball, the Marlins are currently in a much better position than last year. Now hopefully they finish strong unlike last year.

The previous ownership that sucked. Took the Rays 10 years to get where they are at. Are you giving Beinfest NO credit for what he's done? How's Dombrowski's team doing, btw? Oh...and it's funny how you mention how we've done so poorly against the Rays + Rockies. Here...get a clue. 2 other up & coming teams. Diamondbacks & Brewers How have we done against those 2 up & coming teams, this year? :whistle Or do you only look at the pessimistic / negative side of things? :whistle
July 6, 200818 yr fauowls, how come you don't post on the Heat board as much anymore? We could use your level headedness why would anyone post on the heat board? :mis2
