August 30, 200818 yr Dorell Wright is the Heat's version of the Marlins' Jeremy Hermida. You should be patient with him; he's still young, and there were games last year, when he showed his potential. He's a very good defender, young, athletic...he just hasn't panned out yet, b/c his offensive game isn't there. Whether it comes or not, is unknown. Regardless, I think comparing him to Brian Grant is...a bad comparison. They don't even play the same position.
August 30, 200818 yr You're going to compare an inconsistent player like Dorell Wright who has spent the majority of his 4 seasons on the bench because his coaches don't trust him with any meaningful playing time to Brian Grant? Not that Brian Grant was a perennial All-Star, but he was pretty solid for a stretch with the Blazers and the Heat. Give some kind of reasoning for that statement other than "He's improving his game every day." Unless you've spent your summer vacation with him... U didn't watch the heat last year did u? He has spent extra time in the gym getting himself into shape. He has spent hours every day correcting his mid range jumper, which will be his main shooting point next year. He has been trying very hard to do better, if u didn't watch him early in his career Dorrell Wright plays alot better when he is on the court with Wade. They work well together, if they make sure that when Wright plays Wade is on the court too, i see Wright being a very good supporting player I hope you're right but so far Dorell has only shown signs of being an average player. Just because he's been trying to get better doesn't necessarily mean he will.

Miami Heat rookie point guard Mario Chalmers could face further disciplinary action from the team and league after he was dismissed Tuesday from the NBA's mandatory rookie transition program. Chalmers, acquired by the Heat in the second round of June's draft, was sent home on the opening day of the program in New York after he and Memphis Grizzlies rookie Darrell Arthur were reportedly caught with marijuana and women in their room. First-year NBA players are required to complete the four-day program designed to help rookies make a smooth transition to the NBA. Among the topics are sex education, security, and substance abuse. ESPN reported that Chalmers and Arthur, who were teammates on Kansas' NCAA championship team last season, were caught by hotel security at a resort in Rye Brook, N.Y. Players arrived Tuesday night for the seminars. NBA vice president Tim Frank confirmed Chalmers and Arthur were sent home and said both players are subject to more disciplinary action by the league. Both will have to repeat the program next summer. ESPN also reported the players were fined $20,000 each and could face suspensions at the start of the season. ''The commissioner has discretion to discipline,'' Frank said. ``We're always disappointed when you have to send someone home.'' Both players could also be subject to enrollment in the league's substance abuse program. Chalmers' agent, Sam Goldfeder, declined to comment. Heat president Pat Riley was in Springfield, Mass., on Wednesday for Hall of Fame induction ceremonies this weekend and was unavailable for comment. But team spokesman Tim Donovan said Wednesday the league has made the team aware of the matter. ''We are investigating the situation and will have no further comment at this time,'' Donovan said. It was unclear whether the team would discipline Chalmers, who had been working out in Miami prior to attending the NBA's rookie program. Chalmers impressed team and league officials with a solid showing during the Heat's summer league games in Orlando in July. He is expected to compete for the starting point guard job when the Heat opens training camp this month.

I am hoping for an up tempo style offense this season with Marion coming over from Phoenix, and many young guys. We should have no problem doing that. I am really excited for this upcoming season
September 16, 200818 yr Yes, he had his moments last year, but he's not a starter. Agreed. Good guy to have on a cheap contract. He'll take care of the ball and hit an open three. He's a fine backup PG, but he's not a starter for a good team.

That is why it takes more then one offseason to rebuild. It isn't as easy as saying, "we need a PG, and C, let's go get them". I expect the Heat to be much improved and with a healthy Wade, Marion, Haslem, and Beasley, this is a team that should contend for a playoff spot. But to expect them to be able to get back to a championship caliber team in one offseason coming off the worst season in franchise history is silly.

It has a soft cap of about $59 million this season, which teams can exceed up. Once they hit the luxury tax amount(I think it's around $70 million or so), they start paying the tax, which dollar-for-dollar every dollar they are over the tax number.
