July 10, 200817 yr I know the team have two untouchables which anyone dare not say anything negative about, Ramirez and Uggla, they can do no wrong. I got to say this Hanley is starting for the AST and rising to super stardom if not there already, but we cannot continue to praise him and not let him about the negative side, his fielding, he has 15 errors before the allstar break, which may be at the top or near the top of the league, if you want that super star label fielding is part of it, not just hitting and stealing bases, JMO. I know the team experts on the board will let me have it but i have broad shoulders and can handle it.
July 10, 200817 yr I dont know if I am under the category "team expert" but I have to say... I AGREE, with what you said. Hanley has proven himself well enough on the offensive side, still he continues to have an occasional defensive mishap, hopefully he will just sure up his defense in time.

But, what some people don't realize is how fielding is not just determined by number of errors committed. Hanley has good range and gets to most every ball and he also makes a lot of great above average defensive plays. There is no stat category for that but he does make them. I'm not saying he is great defensively, just that when everyone points out the errors, it's only half of the story.

I dont really have a question with Hanley's range its more of him just taking his time before throwing the ball, IMO.
July 10, 200817 yr I think most "experts" would agree that most of his errors are due to that over-sized glove that he uses.

July 10, 200817 yr He does use a large glove for ss its more like a 3rd basemen glove. Im not saying hanely will be the next arod but Arod also struggled in the field early in his career and then went on to be a gold glover so cut him some slack his bats more than makes up for the errors.
July 10, 200817 yr Do you guys notice how sometimes he is searching for the ball in his glove. Drives me nuts. :mis2

July 10, 200817 yr Do you guys notice how sometimes he is searching for the ball in his glove. Drives me nuts. :mis2 That's where the over-sized glove comes in... It's obviously his preference to use "that" glove. I wonder if anyone has asked him to maybe try a smaller glove?
July 10, 200817 yr Do you guys notice how sometimes he is searching for the ball in his glove. Drives me nuts. :mis2 Yeah he seems to bobble the ball a lot... on the other hand he makes great plays from time to time. His biggest problems is making the routine plays, but he has gotten a lot better from last year. know the team have two untouchables which anyone dare not say anything negative about, Ramirez and Uggla, they can do no wrong. Ok i get the part with Ramirez... but what's your beef with Uggla? He is putting up great offensive numbers and his defense is the best out of all our infield.
July 10, 200817 yr Also who said they can do no wrong? They have both done things wrong Uggla strikesout alot and Hanley isn't always sure on defense but like Louie said "Nobody's perfect."

I have no beef with Uggla, it seems you did not read my post, i say the two of them can do no wrong, then i mention the problem with Hanley and his fielding. plus i never say we are perfect, I would just like him to cut down on his errors, l
July 10, 200817 yr While these two are arguably the most important pieces of the team, no one is untouchable on this team. We all though initially that Cabrera would be here many, many years. Sometimes, things change.
July 10, 200817 yr He creates a buttload more runs with his offensive abilities than with his defensive downfalls. With that said, I think it is a fair arguement that some of his errors are b/c a majority of SS's in the league wouldn't even have a chance on some of the balls he misses or boots. What do you all think?
July 10, 200817 yr I agree Hanley might be the best player in baseball and Uggla ( Utley is way better but I think Utley will ultimatey be bets hitting 2B ever) might be this generations Ryan Sandberg in the making, but we have learned no one on the marlins is ever untouchable. I mean even Hanley's big contract was deceiving considering that contract doesnt mean he cant be traded.
July 10, 200817 yr Uggla is the Right Handed Chase Utley, which ultimately makes him a bit less valuable, but we are not likely to do better at 2b any time soon. The man is the best player at 2B this team has ever had.

The man is the best player at 2B this team has ever had. Best? That's argueable.. Did everybody forget about Luis Castillo? In 2002 he had a 35-game hitting streak An NL All-Star in 2002,2003,and 2005 NL Gold Glover in 2003,2004,and 2005 lead the league in groundball percentage in 2002,2004,and 2005 and he was with the Marlins when they won both of their titles (albeit, injured in 1997) ...and that's JUST for the Marlins
July 10, 200817 yr This franchise has to be careful with who it calls its "untouchables" considering Loria's low payroll. Hanley is young, and is already proven himself to be a consistent superstar (at least offensively)...I'm still not sure if I consider Uggla an untouchable. It's not really a knock on him, it's just that when you're a low payroll team...you have to be careful with who you call an "untouchable."

July 11, 200817 yr what are we going to do with chris coglohan? He is a top ten second baseman prospect, but i doubt he will ever get playing time over here.
July 11, 200817 yr what are we going to do with chris coglohan? He is a top ten second baseman prospect, but i doubt he will ever get playing time over here. I don't I'm sticking with my prediction, actually. I don't think this team will re-sign Uggla when he's ready for his big payday. I think Uggla will be traded for fair value, and Coghlan will get his chance at 2B, and I personally don't mind. The Marlins front office (Beinfest, Hill) have shown to be trustworthy with these decisions. I trust their decision...whatever it may be. I don't see Loria paying for Danny. And before anyone brings up Hanley...Hanley is about a handful of years younger than Uggla, and has proven to be more consistent, offensively. Just a thought.
