On Baseball Tonight just now, they were talking about the first half of the season with the biggest story and most disappointing teams, and Steve Phillips picked the Florida Marlins as the biggest story in the NL with all the power they still have without Cabrera and how talented the team is.

 

But the comment I wanted to bring out was that Phillips said that Hanley Ramirez is the Alex Rodriguez of the National League. I personally think that that is quite the compliment to Hanley as many consider A-Rod as perhaps the best player in the game right now. It's nice to see Hanley and the Marlins start to get some of the national attention they deserve.

I now take back all the ignorant things I have called Phillips over the years. I will support him as long as he remains on the bandwagon, sitting right next to Regis.

Honestly, Phillips is the only person on ESPN who I've seen saying nice things about us ALL this year. Like earlier in the year when we were in the tops of the MLB and everyone was saying it was a total fluke and wouldn't last, he was saying people shouldn't underestimate this team, and that they are for real. He's the first person on national TV I saw give us a compliment without following it up with an insult.

 

I've also heard the whole HanRam/A-Rod thing a lot, I've heard a few people say that in the next few years he will give A-Rod a run for his moneyas "best player in baseball"

We need more Orestes Destrade on Baseball Tonight! I actually like his input, and it's not just the fact that he was an original Marlin.

 

Steve Phillips has always annoyed me. He's always like "When I was GM of the Mets..." And I'm thinking, When you were GM of the Mets, you traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano, you dumb f***. Why should I, or anyone else, take anything you say seriously??

 

But it's true that early in the season, Steve Phillips said, "These Marlins are for real." I appreciated that, but then we went on a losing streak. Thanks, Steve.
