August 12, 200817 yr I never said it wasn't, but I've always felt OPS overvalued slugging. Look, I've never been one of those "WE ARE BAD WITH RISP!!!" guys, so me and you are on the same side of this argument. I just think it would be nice to get our OBP up with RISP. Our OBP is inadequate in general, but it is better with RISP than overall, both in raw numbers and in league ranking.
August 12, 200817 yr There's no need to nitpick good numbers. Haha. I'm not "nitpicking" good numbers, I'm point out bad ones.

August 12, 200817 yr There's no need to nitpick good numbers. There's such a thing as bad numbers too.
August 14, 200817 yr Author Bump, Josh tearing it up again tonight. Its a good thing Fredi left him in there instead of going with Hermida, really riding the hot hand.
August 14, 200817 yr like i said!!! if he knew how to hit a Sac Fly!!!! simple thing, he couldn't do it. He jumped out for the big hit on the first two fastballs and had to play safe the rest of the way. Just bring home the run and you may be a in a different situation right now.
August 14, 200817 yr 2008 Josh Willingham = 2005 Mike Lowell He's a better hitter than he's shown, but he's absolutely killing this lineup right now no matter where he's batting.
August 14, 200817 yr 2008 Josh Willingham = 2005 Mike Lowell Nah, Hammer was very good for the first month, got injured, and now he is here. Mike Lowell sucked all year.
August 14, 200817 yr Bump, Josh tearing it up again tonight. Its a good thing Fredi left him in there instead of going with Hermida, really riding the hot hand. Because Hermida was the hot hand? This is a classic case of playing the result.

This is a classic case of playing the result. Except he was sayin' it before the game started...just as I was. Gonzo's not a RF'er. You want to play Gonzo...play him in LF.
August 14, 200817 yr send him to aaa and give lo duca or mcphearson the call up hammer needs to get his swing back and theres no better place to do that then the PCL
August 14, 200817 yr He isn't right and he's hurting the team. I guess this is why the Marlins went after Manny to play LF. So now the question is are the Marlins going to go after a guy like Huff or bring up a OF from the minors...but who? the telling stat on Willingham he hasn't hit a HR in more than two months, again he isn't right

This is a classic case of playing the result. Playing the result, maybe....but with the way Hammer has looked lost at the plate combined with Looper on the mound, I would have thought getting another left handed bat in the lineup would have been a good decision. All I know is I'd rather have just about anyone at the plate right now other then Willingham with a runner in scoring position. :banghead
August 14, 200817 yr we got to where were at from everyone else in the lineup and gonzo when hammer was hurt!!! and when your a professional baseball player and your asked to produce with bases loaded and 1 OUT!!!!! you need to try and hit in the outfield and get a sac fly or try to hit it right up the miiddle NOT GROUND INTO A DOUBLE PLAY!!! and for gods sake man hustle it out ur not manny, if u see the reply he was jogging!!!
August 14, 200817 yr 2008 Josh Willingham = 2005 Mike Lowell Nah, Hammer was very good for the first month, got injured, and now he is here. Mike Lowell sucked all year. Either way, the effect he's having on the lineup is the same. He's not even close to being a productive hitter right now. I agree with the previous poster, he can't be healthy. His power is gone, he can't drive the ball. I don't know what the right solution is, but he isn't it at the moment.

This is a classic case of "I told you so".

August 14, 200817 yr I didn't vote the last time I came to this thread, but I've made up my mind: "Bench his ass"

Do you sub him in for a guy on a 3 game hitting streak or a guy who is 0-8 with 4 strikeouts, 1 DP, and 0-4 with RISP? Fredi went with the 2nd one. I didn't agree with it because I hate seeing Gonzo in right, but Hermida has looked terrible against the Cards.
August 14, 200817 yr send him to aaa and give lo duca or mcphearson the call up hammer needs to get his swing back and theres no better place to do that then the PCL You do know these players have contracts, right? So? He can still get sent down.
