There's a difference between being funny and being a Negative Nancy all the time. Sure, I get frustrated with the team and post about it, but you've never said anything postive about them EVER. All you've ever posted is "why don't we get on hanley for poor defense? Blah blah blah." and stupid sh*t like that.

One thing that really pissed me off was that Hanley was on first and with his speed they didn't give him the green light. What the f***, we're down by one why not send Hanley. We lost anyways but w.e. Another disappointing loss.

Don't bother arguing. Once people label you are something, you are stuck in their mind. They think they know you front and backward.

I'm not ready to throw in the towel. I never do until it's impossible. I think it's obvious though that there has to be a drastic change here. This team desparately needs a spark. I would have liked to see them call up someone who could provide that in this lineup.

3.5 games back..39 games to go...not impossible, but not that likely.

 

There are still 39 damn games left, don't hit the panic button and jump off ship. A four game win streak could put us in first place, it's not over, just yet.

 

Yes, these games have been among the most frustrating, but hey we're at our low point, better now than in October or the September stretch- just ask the Phillies or the Mets.

 

Remember over the past two weeks we have been going against the class of the National League and I don't know about everyone else but I expected us to struggle down this stretch. We have gone 4-7 since the Phillies' series and we have only dropped one game back, what does that say about the strength of our division. We are not the only ones struggling, but so are the Mets and Phillies- them doing so almost exclusively against the Nats and Pirates.

 

But hey starting pitching is clicking and all we need is for the bats to come alive to gain back some ground. Who knows tommorrow might be the day we break out of this slump and string eight, nine, ten games together. So buckle down, show up on Saturday, cause at 3.5 games back we STILL got a pennant race.

I don't necessarily mean to pick on louie here, but I hope every poster isn't going to make it a point to tell the rest of the board when they think the team is done. It just creates a thread of hate, like this one seems to have already turned into.

I'm not ruling anything out but if you look at the on field talent this team is extremely flawed. In 2003 the Marlins were underdogs but you could look at the players and see good defense, a fairly solid rotation, and a capable bat at all eight positions in the lineup.

 

With this 2008 team we have perhaps the worst defense in the majors, one of the worst rotations, an okay bullpen, and an inconsistent offense with holes in the lineup. Even if the Marlins manage to make the playoffs they won't give me close to the same level of confidence that the 1997 and 2003 teams did.

I wouldn't call it one of the worst rotations...I'd call it one of the best, actually.

But there's no comparison, obviously...the 2003 team was more talented, and more fundamentally sound.

I think our rotation is solid. It doesn't get a lot of attention because they don't really have an ace. Its not "top heavy" where you have three good pitchers and two scrubs/old veterans.

 

I KIND OF agree with your assessment of the line up. There are holes. But I think its not because we have hitters who aren't capable of being more complete hitters, its because they don't seem to be making necessary adjustments. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these guys go to another team through arbitration and learn to become more complete hitters on another team. I just don't think the offensive philosophy of the Marlins is CONDUCIVE to young hitters maturing into complete hitters. Seems like they try to pull the ball A LOT.

i agree with you completely on the idea that the batters do not want to make adjustments. i think the marlins believe that their homerun approach still works and that they just have to keep using it until they get out of this slump. however, i seriously believe that the league has caught up to their constant steadfast hr approach and have learned to pitch the marlins. Therefore, unless the marlins stop being stubborn and admit that they need to change their approach they are going to continue to be mired in this slump that has lasted since the ASB.

Its not really about home runs, or anything like that. Home runs are fundemental to all good offenses. Its the fact that they take the same approach for every pitcher. Its like they are usually surprised when a pitcher makes a certain pitch, in a certain location. Its not really about hitting home runs, but rather knowing how the other guy is going to try and get you out. If you can't figure that out, you can't hit the guy on the mound, period. It just seems like they don't have really good scouting reports, or that they just don't seem to think about what the pitcher's strategy might be.
