August 27, 200818 yr I pick Hanley. Saved the game in the 8th, came back and gives up two hits in the 9th. He then struckout Francouer, but the ump said no. Which of course means Francouer gets an RBI. Double. Another hit and an intentional walk load the bases. Kevin Gregg then does his job, gets the ground ball to 2nd, tailor made DP ball, but Hanley says no. It wouldn't have been Kevin Gregg's best save ever, but he did his job. Hanley didn't. He did his job? Are you serious? He allowed 4 runs! How the hell is it possible that he did his job while allowing 4 RUNS! Yea Hanley f***ed up but it wasnt his fault we were in this predicament. Because his job was to get that groundball. That's it. That was his job and he did it. If Hanley hadn't f***ed up the double play, this thread would be people saying "Man, Kevin Gregg scares the sh*t out of me, but he got the job done. Good win!" If there is a 3 run lead, his job is to not give up more than 2. If Hanley hadn't messed up immensely, that's exactly what he would have done. This one is on Hanley. First off, Blanco has only HIDP 2 times this year, so there is no guarantee that had Hanley made the throw it would have beat him. Secondly, how do you know that Hanley's throw would have been accurate? Him and Danny boy have proven time and time again that their accuracy on double play balls is shaky at best. It would have been a close play. Gregg is the loser of the night!! That was a tailor made double play. Hanley's fault all the way.

Hold up there bro, I disagree a bit. So now closers have a little slack where they can give up runs like its all good as long as you save it at the end, what!?!? One thing has nothing to do with the other, Hanley definately f-ed up, but Gregg f-ed up more. It should have never have gotten to the point where a DP is NEEDED to win. Gregg shoulda done his f-ing job and not give up runs.

Not let any runners get on base. Most importantly to make sure the marlins get the W. The Braves only got 3 hits and 2 walks off him. Great job Gregg
August 27, 200818 yr Andy Fox, attention Andy Fox. Please schedule a few months of infield defense practice where you just hit double play ground balls to Uggla and Hanley so they can learn how to field their positions? Sweet mary. Fixed.

His job isn't to "not let any runners on base". That would be nice, but that's not it. It's to get 3 outs before they can score the tying run. That's it. And, with that groundball, he did it. But Hanley was the one who bobbled the game winning double play ball, not Gregg.
August 27, 200818 yr So much for us being the best DP combo in baseball. yea nad the defense dosent get better with coghlan
August 27, 200818 yr wow, how'd we lose. last time i checked we were up 8-4. you dont wanna know lets just say we had a typical gregg and hanley 9th inning

You can never assume the douple play. The bases shouldve never been loaded
August 27, 200818 yr this was a terrible loss and i must say kevin gregg pitched better than that francour was out and johnson shattered his bat and it stayed in of course when it comes to the big time double play either hanley or uggla f*** it up looks like were back to 6 out if the phillies win and our chances severly hurt 2 blown saves verses chicago at home.....2 of the same sh*t in san fran......and a blown save tonight and thats just 5 games in a season where weve blown a lot more than 5 games........it always just gets worse and worse i feel really bad for scott and yes this team is destined to never win back to back games again this season

Hanley is notorious for throwing low so again no guarantee. Anyone who thinks anyone but Gregg is ultimately responsible for this meltdown is just crazy IMO.
August 27, 200818 yr The entire bullpen was horrible. How about two walks with the bases loaded in the 8th? How about Jeremy Hermida gives a crap and gets the ball in faster. We may as well keep Gonzo out there if he's gonna play like a friggin panzy.

August 27, 200818 yr thanks alot hanley and gregg. now i'll never here the end of it, all the friends are braves and phillies fans. not to mention we just keep adding to the loss column.

But Hanley was the one who bobbled the game winning double play ball, not Gregg. Rab, you're acting as if giving up a two walks (one intentional), and five hits is doing your job. If Gregg came in a gave up two runs every time the Marlins were ahead by three, his ERA would be 18. Thats not dong your job. Part of his job is also to take the pressure away from the infielders and to close the game out, which he did not do. Hanley had a terrible play, Gregg had a terrible 6 or 7 plays. Both of them are to blame for this loss, but more so Gregg.
August 27, 200818 yr The entire bullpen was horrible. How about two walks with the bases loaded in the 8th? How about Jeremy Hermida gives a crap and gets the ball in faster. We may as well keep Gonzo out there if he's gonna play like a friggin panzy. It was Ross not Hermida I'm talking about an earlier play in the inning.
August 27, 200818 yr It was a hard hit ball by Blanco. That was a routine DP without question. If wasn't the greatest feed to 2nd, but 90% of Major League shortstops make that play. That was bad, but it happens. Uggla covering 2nd is unacceptable. That's a little league play. My little cousion knows not to cover 2nd in that situation and he's 12 yrs old!
August 27, 200818 yr Once again, Gregg is getting mostly all the blame. Out of the 5 hits he allowed, 2 were bloopers, and 3 was b/c the retarded 2B had another moment. Also...I believe it was Gregg who bailed out the "next best thing" Matt Lindstrom and "King Arthur." Blame Gregg...but there should be a lot more options for the "A-hole of the Game." I'm still waiting for Dan Uggla. Where's Lindstrom? Where are Rhodes and Nelson for walking in runs with the bases loaded? Kevin Gregg, my ass. This was just another choke, via dumb moments, from a dumb baseball team. And no...I don't say that b/c I'm frustrated. I say it b/c it's a fact. This team makes some of the stupidest baseball decisions I've ever seen in my life.

August 27, 200818 yr How did Dan Uggla not make the poll? I mean...c'mon...how idiotic was that? Who covers 2nd, in that situation? That was the dumbest sh*t I've ever seen, in a baseball game. Did Dan Uggla really do that? It was so stupid even Tommy Hutton mentioned it, after the game. Did these guys ever get past Little League? You know...don't walk the leadoff hitter when you have a big lead. Get the ball out of your f***ing glove! Don't cover 2B when that run doesn't f***ing matter! Oh...and just so you know I didn't forget...DON'T STEAL 2ND, when your 2 runs down in the 9th! UGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bonehead plays counter for Uggla has been flying off the chart lately... does the guy have any basic baseball instincts? Or did he just pick up a bat one day and decided he wanted to wack the ball as hard as he could? EXACTLY. Uggla needs to be put on the DL like Pinto was and sent to get professional help from a sports psychologist. The absolutely INSANE things he's been doing since the ASG seem to confirm my suspiscions that he is PSYCHED OUT mentally. As for Hanley, he's using a OF glove at SS. Move him to CF already with that glove. And Gregg? Look, despite the other f*ck ups, Gregg was lousy. Worst closer in baseball. My hair will be COMPLETELY gray by season's end.
August 27, 200818 yr I blame Hillary Clinton (whose speech at the DNC started right at the bottom of the ninth).
