2) As far as a niche for marlins minors, there's no dictionary type thing, there are a few sites off here you can use that apparently shan't be posted, PM/IM me for a link if you want, and you can always browse/ask questions in the marlins minors thread.

Apaprently I'm unable to use the PM feature ... such a n00b.

Any idea why this is the case?

Why are you already so private? Be open with us...

None, ask in here http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index.php?showforum=8

Till then, I'll PM you..

Apparently I can't PM you either.. get that fixed :lol

I have actually spoken with friend of Jeffrey Loria (who is my friend), who informed me that the Marlins are indeed looking into Jake Peavy.

If Loria keeps Uggla, we could dangle Chris Coghlan along with Ryan Tucker

But I didn't understand his sarcasm...therefore it failed. Maybe sarcasm on the internet only works if you have a plethora of emoticans... and I should use them more? :usaflag :elefant :jerry :sparta :train :daz :dancing

?

The pink elephant SCREAMS sarcasm, stick with that one

ugh, I hate to turn this into a "why does CleeShay suck so much at life" thread .. but it says I can't post in that forum either ...

I'd tell you to PM Admin (the site's admin) but uh... I say just give it a day and maybe it'll work tomorrow, it may take a day to allow PMs to work and posting in certain forums to help curtail spambots

It has do with spambots, you can't PM until you get to a certain number of posts. BTW: what's up with Clee already having you as a friend, but not me? I've clearly been more friendly in this thread...

Is that the character for the PC game Gadgets & Gizmos? Or just a random banana-looking thing riding some sore of 4-legged manatee?

And then who would the Marlins add to make the Padres somewhat interested?

This post was well thought out for the most part, rational and reasonable, congratulations... However...

Erick's right it would cost a crapton of prospects probably including Michael Stanton, in addition to Ryan Tucker, probably also Dan Uggla, Scott Olsen et al. Jacobs wouldn't be part of the equation obviously because of Adrian Gonzalez and... seriously... LoL at Jacobs playing in PetCo full-time... you think he sucks now???

I never rule out the realm of the GMs discussing the players... even if it'd only be Beinfest or Hill calling the SD FO saying "What would it take"... because there's no doubt at least that much happens.

As for possibility, because I never rule things out (Besides Jacobs to Oakland), I'll be more generous than Erick in saying 1-2%, but I mean, even now, we still can't afford to mortgage the future on a pitcher who, while very good, has had a couple injuries and will require a lot of money.

The attendance also wouldn't see any significant change outside of maybe fans starting earlier on the bandwagon, especially if the local media starts selling the fact that we can "Be the Rays of 2009"...

whoa whoa, hold the phone!! He can be traded before then. But what keeps me from believing that this will happen would be the cost to get such a player for our first slot in the rotation. If the cost "player wise" is low, than I do see the front office pulling this deal.

The Padres would take nothing less than Volstad/Miller/Sanchez, Stanton/Dominguez, and West. They are rebuilding. They will want two big young arms and a top projectable bat.

Ignoring the financial factor, and I think it's safe to assume you're right (or reasonably close to) regarding what they'd want back... I'd almost consider giving up a Sanchez/West/Dominguez for Peavy, as painful as that might be... I mean, like I said, ignoring the financial aspect... I believe that to be a "do-able" trade... but it really piques my interest... still though, only 1-2% :lol

And you also picked the worst player in each of those brackets, where they'd still probably say no. And they'd want some nominal power RP, like Doolittle or C. Martinez, also. We don't want to become the Mariners and lose huge on a SP trade. Not worth it.

Well, there's a reason I picked the worst in each bracket (relatively speaking, that is) and meant "do-able" from our end, sorry if that wasn't clear... I agree with you, don't get me wrong, I'm not wearing "Peavy in 09" stickers or anything, it just strikes me as interesting

It's too risky to make trades like that, since Seattle overpaid now everyone will have to and it just becomes too ridiculous. If they make the trade and he gets hurt, gg organization for years. Besides the rotation is fine, if they're going to trade/spend money there are other areas of more concern. Obviously it would be nice to have Peavy but the price is just too much.

Again, I understand that, all of that, by no means am I saying "Get this deal done"... I say again... I just found it interesting... just like many found the Manny deal interesting at the time - similar principles - and I feel the same about that as I do this, I'd prefer we not do it, but it's just a cool "fantasy" type thing that actually has plausibility to it

I'm getting in late on this thread, but alas, I will state my case--and it's quite brief and simple.

Trading for Peavy would go completely against the Marlin Philosophy.

We trade our well-known players for prospects, not our prospects for well-known players :thumbup

In the Press Box forum, anyone can post replies; but only Moderators (and Admin) can start threads.

1. 0%. Those are the odds.

2. If we were to trade for Peavy...San Diego would want some of our best prospects in return. A guy like Stanton would go in this deal. Some of our pitching prospects would go. When you trade a pitcher the caliber of Peavy's, the other team isn't looking for Kevin Gregg's. Kevin Gregg's can be had through free agency, at a cheaper price.

3. Peavy, Nolasco, JJ, Volstad, Miller. That would be the rotation.

4. No. The attendance would remain the same. Just like it did when the team acquired guys like Carlos Delgado.

5. It's not possible...this isn't happening. It would make very little to no sense for the Marlins to make such a deal, at this point.

Actually the attendance did increase from 2004 to 2005, be it a nominal increase.

still...peavy would be a great addition no doubt.

A rotation of

1. Peavy

2. Nolasco

3. Johnson

4. Volstad

5. and filler( either miller or anibal)

in no particular order....that looks like one of the best rotations in NL. haven't read much but is this just fan talk or an actual rumor? cuz if we get russel and peavy woah that would be great

Peavy already mentioned the teams he would waive his no trade clause for, and the marlins aren't among the list. Although oddly he said he would embrace a trade to the braves

But really, Matt Cain would be a great option for us. It would most likely take an Uggla, a B+ and a C prospect to get him
