Why so few NL MVP for Hanley Ramirez?

It's not as if the Marlins existed in another universe; their 84-77 record was a half-game better than the Dodgers', and they did it in the best division in the National League -- the division with the world champions.

Albert Pujols deserved the Most Valuable Player Award. This is not to question anyone's vote for Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Manny Ramirez or Lance Berkman.

But Hanley Ramirez 11th? Only Pujols and Berkman had more runs created. His OPS of .940 was the best of any NL middle infielder, better than Utley's .915.

Ramirez's job wasn't to drive in runs -- it was to create them. He reached base 40 percent of the time, hit 33 homers, stole 35 bases and led the league with 125 runs.

And he did it with average defensive skills at a critical defensive position.

He will eventually win one.Calm down Peter.

Probably in another uniform. This is the problem playing in a market like this one. Hanley would be a STAR in NY, here, he's 11th place.

yep, but the main issue was that we didn't go to the playoffs and the fact that Hanley struggled for a portion of the season. This year Hanley didn't deserve to be in the top 5, would've been a push to put him in the top 10, but last year he was definitely robbed of a top 5 finish due to the team's bad performance and the lack of noteriety the Marlins get

Which you should deduce that this is not a market any aspiring superstar will ever touch. No matter how well you play, ESPN & FOX will make sure you are nobody, with no chance of ever getting those bonuses you put in your contract (like are voted a starter on the All-Star team, MVP's, Gold Gloves, etc)

You do realize we did have a starter at the ASG in Hanley, we've had multiple Gold Glovers, we've had multiple Silver Sluggers (including Hanley this year), a couple Rookie of the Year awards (which won't be in any contract, obviously, but is still voted on by the media), and that the only thing we are missing is the MVP because we've never had an MVP worthy player, right? Well, we are missing the Cy Young, which we got screwed out of in 1996 because Brown had 7 less wins than Smoltz ridiculous 24.

Pujols

Ryan Howard

Manny

Ryan Braun

Sabathia

hell, you could even replace Sabathia with Berkman. Either way there is no way Hanley deserved to be in the top 5

I agree. Hanley did not deserve to be in the top 5.

All things except for Hanley happened in the past, much of it the DISTANT past. The media is hell bent on destroying this market for baseball because they don't feel we deserve to have 2 WS rings, and as lousy attendance as we have.

Isn't that a bit hypocritical, though?

I mean...you mention that Hanley wasn't Top 5 b/c of inconsistencies...yet, one of your top 5 is Ryan Howard?

As far as Sabathia and Manny...they played less than half a season in the NL. Granted they did REALLY WELL, but it's a lot different when you're playing a full season in one league. Players adjust.

Is that why a media writer, Peter Gammons, is saying that Hanley deserved more MVP votes?

You really have no proof for what you just said.

The Marlins don't even have a distant past.

When was the last time we had Gold Glove worthy players? Oh right, in 2005 when we got 2. Not counting Hanley, Miggie got 2 Silver Sluggers, in 2005 and 2006. In the 2006 ROY Awards, we had 6 out of the 12 players who received votes and the Marlins had 61% of the vote. We also had a Manager of the Year in 2006 and 3rd place for that same award in 2008. All this came after the 2nd ring that made the media hate us and "hell bent on destroying" us.

I know you have your little conspiracy theories about everything, but you've taken this one to a new level.

wtf? Seriously, Howard was consistent towards the end and most importantly LED HIS TEAM TO THE PLAYOFFS, he was good when his team needed him most, he was an offensive machine, and if you don't have Howard in your top 5 MVP voting you are high off your ass. Same thing goes with Manny. He put up monster stats, LED HIS TEAM TO THE PLAYOFFS, and was the MVP of his team. Sabathia led his team to the playoffs, he did everything including pitching on 3 days rest. He had better stats than many who pitched an entire season in the NL. So there is no way you shouldn't have him at least near the top 5. Hanley did not deserve to be their because he didn't help his team when it mattered most, and their were better players in the league this year

Oh please...Howard's 1st half of .234/.324/.508 certainly doesn't scream MVP, at all.

Howard was as inconsistent as anyone. 3 of the 6 months of the year this past year...he ended up with an .OPS under .800. Playing half his games in Philly.

The whole "led his team to the playoffs" crap is...crap. It's not Hanley's fault that Kevin Gregg blew 8 saves while Brad Lidge didn't blow one. It's not Hanley's fault that the Marlins didn't have their actual rotation for the entire first half, while the Phillies rotation (led by ace, Cole Hamels) stayed relatively healthy. That was the difference. Pitching. Howard and Hanley don't pitch.

Howard's year was nothing but overrated.

^ This is exactly why voters for the award winners should never look at how the team does, just the players.

wrong. It is bad to give an MVP award to a player who has a great season but who's team loses 100+ games. That doesn't scream most VALUABLE player. If you want to give the award to the best stats, make a seperate Offensive Player of the Year Award, but a team's record should be accounted for when evaluating the most VALUABLE player

That award exists, it's called the Hank Aaron Award.

People need to realize that the MVP is not the Hank Aaron Award.
