You just pointed out one of the biggest declines in Pudge's game. In their last two full seasons Pudge has caught 46 of 145 runners, 32%. Blanco has caught 28 of 64, 44%. EDIT: My numbers were wrong. Slight calculation mistake. Corrected.

No, it's because his arm isn't nearly what it used to be. That 32% is way down from his career 47%. There is a reason that more baserunners run on Pudge than on Blanco.

The "2008 Pudge" actually had a better OBP than the "2007 Pudge". This is an "old Pudge" thing. And about Blanco, his 2008 numbers aren't too much different than his 2006 numbers, except for BA. His OBP and SLG are about the same.

January 3, 200917 yr I'm looking for a platoon partner for Baker. Pudge hits lefties well, so i think he would be a great addition. But Erick is right, he may cost a little bit to much. We'll see.

January 3, 200917 yr Not that I wouldn't be surprised if Proctor didn't have a better year than him, but we couldn't have offered Nelson that $1M? Of course, that doesn't count if Nelson knew he would be getting more than that on the open market, which he probably did since he was shopping himself around at the winter meetings while he was still under contract. The Marlins did come up to $800K, which was what he wanted. And who knows what incentives were or weren't added to that offer. But then he turned that down. At the Holiday Party, Admin said they really wanted to sign him and tried hard to do so. Actually, he was adament about that when I asked him. No 1 sentence, PC answer. He made it clear to me he was upset he couldn't get the deal done. Saying Joe was shopping himself around at the Winter Meetings is saying he broke the rules. I'm not saying it's not true, but we really have no idea. And that's something his agent could have been doing behind the scenes. I'm under the assumption he was there to let teams know his desire for FO work after his playing career. Talking face to face with powers that be, showing his baseball knowledge and personality. Kind of a pre-interview interview. After he was a FA he got higher offers and eventually signed for more. So, mute point. Admin, Michael, the FO, and the coaches wanted to sign Joe. It just didn't work out. Sadly for us. So we move on to Plan B. And Plan B ain't all that bad. Proctor just signed a $750K contract. Less than what was offered Joe. It could become a mil, but it also could just be $750K. Or somewhere in between. We have no idea if there were incentives added to Joe's bid. I would have to think probably.

I hear he has been working out and can now get the ball all the way to 2B on just 2 bounces. It was also announced he actually blocked a bad pitch once this session. But that was recanted when it was learned one of his knees had given out and he fell over, accidentally falling on the ball. /more serious than joking We have an offensive catcher. We need a catcher whose defensive abilities aren't offensive. If that means bringing in a vet to teach Baker, that's fine with me. If Baker has the abilities. I'm not sold on that. If that means bringing in someone to replace him behind the plate that knows how to be a catcher, that's also fine with me. "Defense, speed, and pitching." Catcher is not the position I would want to change that approach. I'm betting Admin feels the same way. We have about a month before FanFest. Something will happen before then.
January 4, 200917 yr Pretty good signing of Proctor, hes another power arm and is a workhorse hopefully we keeep the innings down to 50 or 60 at most. As for Pudge if we could get him for a minimum there's no doubt everyone on this board would say yes in a heart beat, but if he wants the big bucks of a starting catcher then we sign Blanco for what would be less money and still get a pretty good defensive catcher and a guy who has some pop offensivly.
