Bright House Network Central Florida adds FOX Sports Florida

OMFG YES!!

While I am from Ft. Lauderdale, I currently go to college at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, and I friggin hate watching Marlins games online through sh*tty streams. I am so happy right now.

I hope they will also show Panthers games too, even it is technically Tampa area.

You know it's big news when Cape makes an appearance.

Who is he and how did he get over 24,000 posts? :o

I woke up to this wonderful New Year's present yesterday morning, though I didn't post about it because I didn't think anyone really cared about the plight of the Orlando-area Marlins fan. With all of the letters I've written to MLB, Marlins and Bright House through the years, it certainly seemed like they didn't.

When Wayne H. moved the Marlins broadcasts to his new Sports Channel Florida from Sunshine before the 97 season, Brighthouse (at the time Time Warner) said there wasn't demand in the Orlando market for two regional sports channels. When the assets were purchased by Fox Sports, Brighthouse contended there still wasn't demand for two RS channels, despite FSN and Sun Sports being in the Tampa and Melbourne markets. Also in that time frame, Orlando lost it's radio affiliate following the 03 Championship, so we've been on blackout far too long.

It's sad, but in the end it wasn't the lure of young franchise w/ two WS titles that got the deal done, but the Magic moving half of their broadcasts to FSN that finally forced Brighthouse's hand.

CapeFish, I'm actually moving to Tally tomorrow... I was wondeing what info you could give me in terms of getting the Marlins up there? I have comcast basic in my new apartment, and I ordered a digital box...

First off, welcome to Tallahassee (and I assume FSU)!

Channel 28 is Sun Sports and Channel 29 is FOX Sports Florida. Channel 401 is FSN HD.

95 Marlins games air on FSN, but tell Comcast you want all 150 early and often. Rays games on FSN also air in Tallahassee.

They have MLB Network on Digital Preferred Ch. 279. MLB Extra Innings is also available.

I'm a Marlins fan that used to have more time to post, but has grown so busy that I rarely do anymore.

I posted this because many old timers on this board joined a campaign I ran to get the Fish on TV around Florida. This was our last major hurdle and it has been toppled.

I couldn't believe it when the customer service rep. didn't know what Fox Sports was when I lived there.

I was watching this new channel last night. Channel 213 for DirecTV subscribers. Not bad. Not a Costas fan (I hold a grudge a long time for some things), but other than that I liked the shows and the people they have hosting them. Al Leiter seems right at home. And I've always liked Ray Liota(sp).

Hey Cape. Any idea if Comcast is going to televise all 150 or so games up here in Tally. We've been screwed over the last few years by them not showing those games broadcasted on Sunshine. I appreciate any info you have.

thanks Cape.

major news to me as I have been a central florida resident for 2 years now... hence my complete dissapearance from game threads and my lack of knowledge.

hope all is well.

He is in the Guinness book of world records for most posts in a day. How many was it?, 200?? We thought Cape fell off his rocker, he was literally having a conversation with himself. :lol

They told me it could be revisited sometime before the season. Send your e-mails, letters, and phone calls to Comcast Tallahassee.

thanks Cape.

all is well here, hope the same is true for you.

I thought some of those were combined. It was done a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Cape can I get it in Charlotte? Welcome back, you are missed.

Charlotte County, FL or Charlotte, NC?

Charlotte County has Comcast Cable, which carries FSFlorida and SunSports, but only shows 95 Marlins games last I heard. A Dish or DirecTV customer in Charlotte can watch all 150 on FSN and SUN.

Charlotte, NC can get this Fish whenever they play the Braves (FSCarolina/SportSouth), Nationals/Orioles (MASN), or Reds (FSCarolina/SportSouth) on your normal cable/satellite service, but if they aren't playing them, you can watch on MLB Extra Innings or MLB.tv.

Any idea when this goes into effect?

Channel 50 is there with FOX Sports Florida, but you need a digital box.

Yeah I just found the channel myself, i felt stupid lol. Thanks for the response though.

Cape, Thanks for all your work on this. I have a question regarding AT&T U-Verse in Jacksonville. Do you know if they get the 150 games or just the 95 like Comcast does up here? Their rates with internet seem so much better than DirecTV. The deal breaker though is the extra Marlins games. I will never leave DirecTV for a service that only offers the 95 games.
