April 12, 200917 yr According to the BBTN dudes they believe that JJ is going to be the NL Cy Young winniner. Nice to see that JJ has a fan club. I honestly never thought of JJ being a Cy Young candidate but nice to see that other people think so.
April 12, 200917 yr Hey, anyone who can go head-to-head with Johan and come out on top is going to be in the Cy Young hunt.
April 12, 200917 yr I've said this for a while, but don't read too much into this. BBTN is one of the most fairweather group, whomever is hot at that moment they are going to endorse.

I'm talking about the guys like Phillips, Kruk, and Ravich.
April 13, 200917 yr Bleep everyone from Baseball tonight staff except Gammons. The rest are just jumping on the bandwagon...
April 13, 200917 yr Didn't JJ put up some great numbers in 06? I could swear that I remember he had a great ERA, just not enough starts to qualify. Or something like that.
April 13, 200917 yr Its all how they pan out really. He has the potential to become a Cy Young candidate... though I dont think its fair to throw his name in the ballot until he proves us a little bit more.
April 13, 200917 yr No way JJ wins the Cy Young. If Dontrelle can't win the Cy in an '05 season where there was virtually zero competition outside of Carpenter, when he was the only 20 game winner (and won 22, at that) then I just can't see JJ doing it. Nobody will get enough respect in Miami to win the honor. He would have to be better than '05 D-Train to take it home, and it's hard to say he can finish up that strong in mid-April.

And if Kevin Brown couldn't do it when he had the lowest ERA by almost a full 1.00, no Marlin can.
April 13, 200917 yr Be quiet, if he keeps this up, he will be talked about enough to win the CY Young!!

April 13, 200917 yr It is quite funny how before the season all the media dismissed us yet again and had us for 4th or 5th in division yet after one week they all claim they knew all along that the young Marlins team is special and will be serious contenders for the division.
April 13, 200917 yr How can even the biggest Marlin homers be touting JJ for a Cy Young after just witnessing the brilliance of Santana? I don't care which team won ... Santana was much better.

April 13, 200917 yr Santana wasn't better, he just got more strikeouts. He gave up a 2 out hit to Paulino with a runner on 2nd. After the marlins' errors JJ was able to make the pitches and get the outs.

Santana was great no doubt but he let Murphys error effect him by throwing a nice fat one over the plate to Ronnie or at least it seemed that way. JJ's D also let him down but he didnt let it efffect him and he got out of the trouble his d created for him. Both of them were outstanding, were kinda splitting hairs here.

You could have made a big case for Dontrelle. I especially remember BBTN and all them saying that it is almost impossible to be the only 20 game winner in the league (nonetheless 22 game winner, which was 3-4 more wins more than Carpenter) and not win the Cy Young, and sure enough somehow it happened.
April 13, 200917 yr Carpenter won 21 in 2005, only 1 less than Dontrelle. I could have sworn he only won 18 or 19 for some reason. Whatever. Dontrelle still deserved it.
