May 12, 200917 yr I would hit Coghlan first (against both). He's going to OBP but his SLG is going to struggle, and he's the second fastest guy in the lineup behind EB (should steal 20ish bags). What kind of numbers (BA, OBP, SLG) do you think he'll put up? I was thinking maybe Escobar type numbers.

I love that comparison, both 10%ish BB's and K's, about a .110ish ISO, .300ish BABIP. I don't think he'll match Escobar out the gate, I'm expecting more like .270/.345/.380. BB/K is normally worse in a rookie year, he'll need some time to adjust to ML pitching. But in 1-2 years I think Yunel's career line is what to expect him to develop into.
May 12, 200917 yr I am not against Cog hitting first, but I just don't know what to expect from him. That being said I am all for bringing up guys and giving them their shot. IMO it makes watching the game much more interesting when there is an unknown entity with potential at the plate. (This is a large part of the reason I have never been a "hater" of anyone.)
May 12, 200917 yr I really see no reason not to put him back at lead off. More at bats, more hits, more SB, and likely more HR. Basically enabling us to maximize his production. It's become obvious to me that he won't be batting anyone in hitting at the 3 spot. Also, being at lead off makes it harder for opposing pitchers to walk him. They'll have to pitch to him.

His walk rate is lower so far this year than last year.

I normally use chone to help, but I couldn't find it since fangraphs took it off and was too lazy to google and just came up with that on my own while mostly looking at Escobar. I think Chone is a really good outliner, don't take it as gospel but it generally transcends peripherials well.

May 12, 200917 yr No. 1.000 OPS do not bat first in the NL. Depends. Is that a .000/1.000/.000 line? Agreed. But he's also being wasted at #3 as long as our top of the order guys can't get on base. Not only does he have no one to knock in, but he can't get a rally going with 2 outs already against the team. Solution: Move Hermida up and/or Hanley to #2

Johnny Bake's been doing well up there.

Johnny Bake's been doing well up there. Well I was suggesting Hermida at 1 and Bake at 2. Those are two of our best OBP guys. EB might start getting on base more and maybe Fredi has too long a leash but it is too soon to write off a change. In some ways his strong start might have hurt us in the long run but dont expect Fredi to sit around and wait forever for BonifIchiro to come back and save us.

And yeah, I agree with most of this, expect that the SP has been pretty bad as well. Our record speaks more to our massive luck at times during the winning streak and our completely bipolar nature since then.

He K's too much + you want his slugging (much like Hanley) to be in spots where he can get more RBI opportunities.
