I am going to send an e-mail to the team complaining that they sell Yankees merchandise in our stadium. Why are they accomodating Yankees fan in our ballpark. This makes me angry. I know Yankee fans will come to the game but you don't have to welcome them and sell their teams jerseys. It is just rediculous. If you want to have your own fans to fill the stadium then stop selling things for the other team. This makes me so angry I want to pull my hair out. Please e-mail the team as well and hopefully it knocks some sense into them.

That's not a good analogy. And its wrong too. If Publix sold Winn-Dixie products then it would work. But they don't I happen to work for Publix and they care way more about competing stores than individual products. There really is no competing against Publix, butI won't go into that.

It's hard to complain when more Yankees fans show up than Marlins fans.

I think that it is dumb to sell other teams merchandise, but it is something that is done in many other stadiums. Perhaps it is more prevelant here, but in a series like this, when half the people(or more)are Yankees fans, it's hard to argue with the strategy of stocking extra Yankees merchandise.

 

I wonder though, how much of the merchandise sold at the stadium is controlled by the team and how much is controlled by the stadium. I have been in the team store during Dolphin games and they sell Jets and Patriots merchandise. I don't think a lot of other NFL stadiums are selling the merchandise of their biggest rivals. It certainly wasn't the case when I went to a Dolphins-Steelers game in Pittsburgh. Although the Fins were so bad for a decade, maybe that was the only way to sell anything at the team store.

I bought a Penguins hat at BAC at a Panthers game... it happens in almost every professional sports venue, regardless of sport.

I will say at most of the stadiums I've traveled to that the stores have a smattering of other teams items, usually Cubs, Red Sox or Yankees. But I can't ever recall seeing as much stuff for the other teams as they are at whatever the hell they're calling it now stadium where the Marlins play. I went to Shea last year and didn't see a single Marlins #1 finger anywhere being sold, yet there they were for sell at opening day here. I know the Marlins don't have control of the stores, but I understand the original complaint.

There's been plenty of Marlins apparel available at Coors Field the past couple years when I've made the trip to Denver. Sure, I could go online and purchase most of that stuff from mlb.com, but it makes it more memorable when you're able to say..."hey, that's the hat I bought when I went to see the Marlins in Denver...what a game!"

Funny how some Yankee "fans" from here don't know who plays third base, or that Jeter is actually their SS, not 2B. A Yankee "fan" once actually told me that the Yankees had played the Red Sox in the World Series a couple of years ago. I corrected him and said, "You must have meant the ALCS" and he replied, "No, the World Series". He wasn't joking either. It was adorable.

Okay. I'll agree when a Fish fan tells me that Hanley plays 2B and not SS. Or that that we once faced the Braves in the WS.

No, Rachel's actually 100% correct on this, no two franchises suffer from general fan ignorance more than the Red Sox and Yankees. It trivializes everything about the sport too, people are more fans of the logo/hats than they are the team. Fans that can't name more than 2-3 players on their own team, and saying blanket statements that may have applied 5 years ago, but do no longer.

 

I've brought friends to Marlins games that knew nothing about baseball, but there's a difference between going to the game with very little baseball exposure, and having a bunch of team paraphernalia and knowing nothing.
