It's a shame though, Wood done a good job for the 7.2 IP. 0.00 ERA and 0.91 WHIP

Funny thing is with the current bullpen we have, you could say everybody has performed extremely well on it.

Badenhop

Sanches

Donnelly

Nunez

Pinto (needed Lefty)

Meyer

Wood

Tell me, out of all the guys here, who is there to get rid of to make room for Calero? It had to be Wood. It is a great dillemma to have, everybody in the pen has been doing extremely well as of late, if the hitting could soon get back on track we should be in first place very soon.

Although it was a relatively small sample size, at least we have the knowledge that if someone gets injured, we can call up Wood knowing that he is capable of pitching well at the Major League level.

Our Bullpen is starting to look good and it can look even better when some guys come back.

Anibal (LR) replace Badenhop

Donnelly or Ayala

Calero (replaces wood)

Meyer

Nunez

BJ Ryan (I hope) replaces Pinto

Lindsrtom (replaces Sanches)

Badenhop has been of great value coming out of the pen this year so why do you replace him with Anibal?

Cause at one point Anibal will be back and he has to go somewhere. I wouldn't replace any of our starters for Anibal right now.

I wouldn't mind having Sanchez throw in the minors. He's hasn't dominated at any level in years.

I could be confusing Sanchez with someone else but wasn't there an issue regarding him not being a good candidate for the bullpen because it takes him so long to get ready and once he's warmed up he has to pitch or the effort was wasted for a couple of days?

yeah but Anibal has been struggling all year. Badenhop has been nothing but great for us as our long reliever. we need to keep Anibal in the minors for a little bit like we did to Ricky. he should not be allowed to work out his issues in the majors when we are so close to first. Just because he threw a no hitter doesn't mean he deserves to be in the majors. he still has to earn it.

Same

I wouldn't mind him getting 3 or 4 solid rehab starts of at least 5 IP each.

It worked with Ricky but this is a different situation since Ani is coming of the injury. We should give him a good amount of time in AAA before deciding to call him back up.

Sucks for Wood as he has been solid and I hope he'll be back up someday, but as somebody already mentioned...

It's great to have that kind of pitching depth in the minors.

I don't think Anibal has an option left. Sure he can make a bunch of rehab starts in the minors, but as soon as he's healthy, he is up with the big club. Starter, Reliever, whatever.

Tim Wood showed some promise, but I'm pretty sure his ERA is a little misleading as he did allow some inherited runners to score that weren't charged to him. He is a guy that looks very promising longterm (maybe our first in-house reliever in a while) but he can still get some work in the minors and we need guys comfortable with setting up.

Great observation, so I decided to investigate. Sanchez started 2006 with Carolina, then was brought up in late June of that year. He started 2007 with the Marlins, but was sent down in early May. He started out 2008 in the minors, but then made his first start last year on July 31. So...would he be out of options?

We've done the "Rehab" starts with Miller over and over. I can't imagine them not doing it with Anibal. Either way, I don't see him breaking into the rotation in the bigs right now. The only one who could be replaced right now is West, but I don't think that even Sanchez could out-pitch him right now. Yesterday's start wasn't a good one, but he had one bad inning and he still went relatively deep in the game. Anibal hasn't even been capable of that in the last three years. I hope they find a way to make him a reliever, because its really time to cut our losses as far as him in the rotation.

2006 and 2007 would be options. I'm not sure about 2008 because that probably would have been rehab. The thing to remember is that options can count even if players have not played in the majors that year- if Anibal was on a 40 man roster in 2005 he would have been optioned and that would leave him without options.

Well he was one of Boston's best pitching prospects in 2005. He started in High-A, then was promoted to Double-A and finished the season there. So, I don't think he would've been on Boston's 40-man in 2005, so then he would have one option left...is this correct?

he did have an option use in 05 06 and 07

in '05 he was rule 5 eligible so he was put on the 40 man and optioned in ST click (and click for him being put on the 40 man roster in nov to protect from rule 5)

in '06 he would then stay on the 40 man roster and be optioned in st click

in '07 he was optioned after his injury click

which is why in '08 he started the year in the DL instead of the minors

he then won his grievance, giving him the service time he lost from being optioned

considering that, his options from 07 should be revoked, so he'd have one option left

if it wasn't revoked then he is out of options.

But it wouldn't make sense to me to give him service time and saying we unfairly optioned him, but we don't get the option back.

(edit: fixed for accuracy)

He could be a throw-in in a deal. Some teams might think they can convert him into a reliver, or maybe he can recover from his injury woes and pitch well. But there won't be any deal centered around him.
