Webb mad for losing ROTY

Featured Replies

I quote Sun-Sentinel...

"That's kind of crazy, I think," said Webb (10-9), who would have become the first starter since Dave Righetti in the strike-shortened 1981 season to win Rookie of the Year with fewer than 13 victories. "I don't know what [voters]were looking for, really. It had to be [wins] or they made up their minds at the All-Star break. [Willis'] second half was anywhere but good. He didn't do anything the second half."

That's messed up. I mean I know Willis wasn't exactly his best second half but to say it publicly like that just makes Webb look like he's jealous and a-hole for dodging him instead of congratulating him. I mean it's not like Willis did absolutely nothing. And the sad part is that Webb still wouldn't have won if Willis hadn't, it apparently would have been Podsednik. It's like the ESPNEWS reporters said, you could either just go by stats or go by which rookie was most valuable to their team and that obviously was Dontrelle.

Anyway, yeah AL/NL Managers announced today, I'm not sure when though.

I think Jack MOST DEFINITELY deserves this. Felipe Alou and Dusty Baker should get honorable mention but nobody did anything as close as Jack.

Everybody expected the Giants to win a lot of games anyway and they did so it's not like Felipe Alou did some miracle managing, plus he has some guy named Barry Bonds too. Dusty Baker took over a losing club and turned them into a respective team like Jack but people already believed they could be a good team, FANS of them believed they could be a good team.

Nobody ever believed the Marlins could be a good team (expect all of us of course) so for 73-year-old McKeon to take over a team with their starting ace out, barely any fans in the seats, and a club sliding under .500 and turn them into a championship, full-stadium, bandwagon team is awesome. Of course the players deserve most of the credit but Jack is the one who made all the right managing moves, he's the one who taught them to relax and just have fun. :hat

Willis brought fans out to the park something that doesn't show on a statistics sheet...Not to mention he can help himself out with his bat unlike Webb. People aren't noticing these things.

that's mature Willis#1.

I'd probably have voted for Webb, his individual numbers were a little better. But the intangibles all went to Willis. The team rallying when he was called up, the excitement he created down here, the enthusiasm he brought to the team. It's arguable whether "bringing fans out to the park" should have anything to do with being rookie of the year, but it's clear that the voters take this sort of stuff into consideration.

The question is,

who lifted up south florida?

who gave this team hope?

who made us have confidence along wit mckeon?

who was the most hyper player?

who brought 30,000+ when he pitched?

who made this team turn around?

Dontrelle,Dontrelle,Dontrelle.

Now if webb wants to talk crap he could, because we're gonna hit him hard next year(we hit him good this year)dontrelle beat him this year.

Can't webb take the fact that he lost the rookie of the year award to willis?

Webb please stop crying,please.

AND WEBB STOP HATING ON THE MARLINS!

Actually I think it's the 12th.

Webb was out of line with those comments, that's the kind of stuff you keep to yourself. yeah you might be right because ESPNEWS isn't mentioning anything about it

i coulda sworn they said the 11th..lol maybe I was tired

Hey Webb! :fyou

I second that :fyou

Brandon Webb is such a little baby. He doesn't win an award he probably wouldn't have won anyways and he cries and *****es like a little school girl(no offense to all of my girl friends here ;) )! He could have been the bigger man, shut his hole and congratulated Dontrelle on winning the award....but NOOOOOOOOooo!

Hey Brandon, you want some of Dontrelle next year?? Bring it on, Cupcake! :angry

Hey, the kid was probably expecting to win it, and ended up in third. No one he's angry. That doesn't mean I'm condoning his statements.

Its one thing to be a man, get mad and shut your hole. Its a completely different thing when you get mad and start ranting and raving how its an outrage.

You think Dontrelle would have been upset if he didn't win? I don't hear Scott Podsednik getting mad and running up to every news paper and media he can, crying on how its an outrage he didn't win?!

If Webb was a true proffesional, he would'nt have made those comments. I mean he is a rookie and definitely has a lot to learn but that gives him no excuse to say that. We can all say for a fact, especially with Dontrelle being such a humble guy, he would NEVER EVER in a million years make those comments even if he came in 10th. He would probably say he's disappointed or w/e but he'd never go as far as dodging the winner.

Judging that I just posted the same exact thing the same exact minute just in other words (LOL), I can say I definitely agree :thumbup

I would have voted for BWebb but he acted like a little a**hole.

What did Webb do in the 2nd half? He probably had a 4-4 record or some s***!

Yeah, I could have sworn I read somewhere he didn;t have a good second half as well

If that's true, then wow :chair

Willis had 4 more wins (14-6, compared to Webb's 10-9).

Webb pitched more innings (180.2 to 160.2) - so Webb had his chances at getting more wins.

Willis is younger: 21 to Webb being 24.

Willis is a better hitter. Willis, .241 1 HR 4RBI 8K's in 58ABs. Webb, .100 0HR 0RBI 21K's in 50AB.

ERA? Webb gave up 1 LESS EARNED RUN than Willis (57 to 58). So even though the ERA is better for Webb than Willis (2.83 to 3.30), the disparity is not as much as it seems.

I dont know, stats aside, Willis and Webb seem to be very close - but when you factor in Willis' hitting and his intangibles - like resurecting this franchise - I think he is the obvious choice.

I hope we rock Webb next year. Whining like a b#tch. :thumbdown

This isn't the popularity contest : Webb was the best rookie in baseball this year.

If he played for the Marlins he might have went like 16-5 or something

but Dontrelle had a much bigger effect on the Marlins

Webb should be the Rookie of the Year but Dontrelle is the Most Valuable Rookie

and we are talking about a THIRD, yes THIRD, place winner (or loser I should say)

So if Willis wasn't alive and Podsednik would have won, I wonder what Webb would have came up with then

Why even bother talking about what this loser thinks? I am just thrilled for Dontrelle, he really deserves this...

*midle finger to Webb* Go to Hell and stay there! :thumbdown
