NEW YORK -- David Wright has left the New York Mets game against San Francisco after being hit squarely in the helmet by a 94 mph fastball from Giants starter Matt Cain.

 

Wright,wearing a gray shirt and black shorts, was shown on television steppingunaided into the back of an ambulance about 50 minutes after he was hitin the fourth inning of a scoreless game. The ambulance left theballpark with a police escort.

 

The Mets said that Wright wasexamined in the clubhouse and would be further checked at The Hospitalfor Special Surgery in Manhattan.

 

Cain's 0-2 pitch hit Wrightjust above the brim of the helmet, sending it flying as Wright fell tothe ground in the right-handed batter's box.

 

Wright lay motionless on his stomach for over a minute beforetrainers helped turn him over onto his back. One trainer leaned inclose as Wright was on his stomach, talking to the third baseman. AfterWright was turned over, he sat up and a trainer shone a light in hiseyes.

 

Wright was helped to his feet and walked off the field with limited help. Fans gave him a loud ovation.

 

Cain,who had thrown just seven balls in the first three innings, walkedhalfway in toward the plate and sat in a crouch as trainers attended toWright. Bochy visited the mound at the end of the 3-minute delay.

 

Fernando Tatis ran for the All-Star starter and stayed in the game at third.

 

Wright,who had a cold earlier in the week and did not start Tuesday inArizona, has played in all but one of the Mets' 116 games this season.

 

New York starter Johan Santana threw behind the back of San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval, but missed him in the seventh inning. That drew a warning for both teams from home plate umpire Brian O'Nora.

 

Sandoval responded by hitting a home run, boosting the Giants' lead to 4-1. Santana then hit the next batter, catcher Bengie Molina,but wasn't ejected. San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy argued withO'Nora about the non-ejection, but Mets manager Jerry Manuel removedthe star left-hander at that point anyway.

Dodger pitcher,Hiroki Kuroda, was just hit by a line drive off the bat of Rusty Ryal. Looks like it went off the side of Kuroda's head....he's moving...but they're now preparing to carry him off on a stretcher...

that's scary. but johan is a total douche. there is no way cain tried to hit wright 0-2 count. i don't like it when pitchers throw at batters period.....but i hate it more when the hit-by-pitch was accidental and opposing pitcher hits someone on the other team as retaliation. can't believe johan wasn't ejected.

no. i already posted above that there was no way cain tried to hit wright intentionally. but since you can't tell if something is 100% intentional i'd suspend the pitcher intentional or not.

I'd rather swet my ass of then get nailed in the head with a ball and be seriously concussed or possibly dead.

 

Also you can't suspend a pitcher for hitting a batter in the head if that pitcher is ahead in the count. You can usually see when a pitcher wants to hit a batter like when Johan did or when Padillia loses his temper on the umpire and decides to just drill someone in the back the next pitch.

 

Glad to hear that Wright, Kinsler and Kuroda all aren't to badly injured. Hope they all return back at 100% in the next few of weeks.

Kinsler is a f*cking man, though. He got hit, but he still got up and wanted to fight.
