Andrew Miller trade rumor?

Featured Replies

I think he should be forced to carry the scars of supporting such a terrible player.

Watch what you say.

I don't see how this is a rumor.

I beat you to it!

It's not a rumor. It's how rumors start. The thread title was simply posing the question... who wants to start an Andrew Miller trade rumor?

:p

I'm not saying you're wrong really, but it just a poor use of the word. This is like Buster Olney's new useless article on ESPN which came out of nowhere today saying that the Phillies and Cardinals talked about a Howard/Pujols swap earlier in the offseason.

It just doesn't sound like anything legit. A "source" saying "I could see him getting traded" is all very opiniated. It's just something to talk about before the season starts, I guess.

yeah i see where you are comming from just passing on what I saw because I didn't see it on here. I personally hope he gets his stuff together because we all know he has electric stuff

Andrew Miller has been a disappointment since he joined the Marlins. I don't know how much of his underachivements have to do with the mental part of the game. AM came with the hype of being compared to a young Randy Johnson and certainly expectations were very high on him. He has been given every opportunity to succeed in the majors and he has also done all he can possible to prove that he is not what was advertised. Consistently inconsistent. I'd trade him with eyes closed

Really, with your eyes closed? Don't forget that Miller is only 24 entering his age 25 season and with all that hype and potential he still has a solid 3 or 4 years to finally show that talent he has inside. There have been late many late bloomers like Randy Johnson that end up have solid careers and Miller could be one of them, pulling the trigger on him isn't that easy.

To be fair, Randy Johnson entered the big leagues at the age of 24. He was very wild, and his first truly great year came at the age of 29.

With that said, don't expect Miller to live up to the hype anymore. He could still be a quality big league pitcher, though.

Again, Miller has an option. He can be in AAA all year, and then we can give him a "sink or swim" roster spot in 2011 to either work out, or not. Trading him is idiotic despite his disappointing performance. There is still plenty of time for him to turn into an asset.

But what type of asset do you see him becoming at this point? Unfortunately, he was rushed to the bigs - a side effect of the foolish contract he got after getting drafted. On top of that, like Dontrelle before him, he has had his pitching motion tweaked multiple times. Sadly, I think the likelihood of him becoming a serviceable starter now is very dim.

I don't disagree with any of that, I'm just saying he's not like Hayden Penn out of options. We can stick (suffer?) with him for 2 more years pretty much, only one of them being on the MLB roster, and see if he finds his "inner lefty mid 20s" breakout. I hate using Randy Johnson as comparable, but Unit sucked for years.

Randy Johnson's control sucked for years, but he was always effective. His first four years in the majors (Before breaking out at age 29): 5.82 BB/9. He also had an ERA of 4.00 and a FIP of 3.98 because he struck a ton of guys out (9.00 K/9) and rarely gave up HRs (0.76 HR/9).

Miller also rarely gives up HRs and has horrible control, but Randy has always dominated in strike outs whereas Miller is basically average.

Part of the reason why I advocate trading him now is because I am pretty convinced he's not going to amount to anything in the next year. Maybe he will break out in another organization, but I don't see that happening with the Marlins.

I think that maybe the Marlins could perhaps get something for him now (such as a left handed bat) instead of waiting to trade him in a year when he is out of options.

Of course, I don't think the Marlins actually consider trading him. After all, this discussion is rooted in nothing more than the opinion of some anonymous scout.

Yeah, Randy Johnson was bad until Nolan Ryan pointed out a flaw in his mechanics. If only we could somehow get Ryan to give Andrew Miller a few training sessions, we could maybe salvage his career.

Am I correct in saying that after Wiley moved Miller away from his traditional pitching style, St Claire is now turning Miller back to the motion that got him to the Majors in the first place?

Yeah, thats what he's doing. Going back to square one and starting it back up again.

I think we can be generous enough to offer him back to the Tigers for Cabrera straight up.

haha and they pay 97.5% of his contract

other then hanley i would give anthing up to get miggy back. he should had never left in the first place.

it should have been cabrera and hanley on this team till they retire.for reall that was just wrong.i dont care how good maybin and miller play,i will never let that trade go.

"On March 22, 2008 Cabrera reached an agreement with the Tigers on an eight-year, $153.3 million contract extension. At the time, the deal was the fourth-largest in baseball history,"

Yeah, that was never going to happen.

What you should be upset about is the fact the Dodgers offered us Billingsley, Kershaw, Loney, and Kemp for Cabrera and we turned them down.

If we didn't trade him to the Tigers he'd probably be on the Red Sox or something right now. We had zero chance of keeping him.

Id rather just pretend they didn't even if they did. I'm pretty sure what was offered to us for Willis and Miggy has been debated on here before.

Let me clarify, they offered us Loney, Kemp, and the younger LaRoche straight up, and our choice of either Billingsley or Kershaw for Cabrera (without Willis).

And you can look back at past links if you want, I believe this was the final offer sent before we accepted the Tigers offer.

I always remember the Angels offerered us something like Ervin Santana, Howie Kendrick, Nick Adenhart (RIP) and maybe someone else?
