Well he is the # 3 lefty reliever unless Tank starts to get back his stuff.

 

And that's of course ignoring the possibility Miller or West can be used in the bullpen.

As Rabb said, he's just been horrific. If you can't come into camp as open as this one and simply throw strikes, or at the very least be around the plate, you aren't ready to pitch and you shouldn't have rushed your rehab.

There are 27 on the active roster with 14 Pitchers, 3 catchers, 6 infielders and 4 outfielders. NRI still in camp with a chance, some slimmer than others to make the roster include Pitchers Hensley, McClung, Strickland and Veras, also Barden and Lamb. I can't see them keeping 3 catchers or more than 12 pitchers.

well half of our bullpen signing are off the team. veras seems to be heading in the right direction in making the team and mcclung still has a chance. i think mcclung only had one bad game and has a strong arm

I didn't say anything negative about those two or the FO when we signed them. They failed, so I'm going to talk smack about them. Our FO basically failed as well. They did not get the job done in the bullpen this offseason. I'm not saying our current bullpen is garbage, but it should definitely be better. That's all I'm saying.

Cripes. Across MLB, there are 300 (give or take) guys competing for 75 (give or take) roster spots EVERY spring.

 

The fact that about 75% of them "fail" every spring is a given. Invite 8 non-roster guys on minor league contracts to ST and at least 6 of them will usually "fail."

 

This has nothing to do with any stupidity on the part of the Marlins FO, which actually has done consistently well at finding guys who make big comebacks. It ain't about the 6 or 7 who don't make it, it's about the 1 or 2 who do.

I was actually going to post something along these lines, but you took it first lol. But seriously, did you expect all of the minor league invites to come in and have ST ERA's under 1? There is a reason that they were given minor league contracts. If teams thought they were going to be sure-fire bets in the bullpen, they would have been signed to major league contracts. It seems that our bullpen always has some solid performers that were picked up on minor league deals, and McClung and Veras will probably be that for us this year. Who cares about MacDougal or Turnbow or any of the other guys that didn't perform as well since there wouldn't be enough room on the roster for them anyways?

Jones pitched very well this spring, too bad we couldnt get rid of pinto in the offseason.

The Nationals agreed to terms with reliever Mike MacDougal on a minor league deal, tweets NatsTown News. MacDougal had signed a minor league deal with the Marlins on February 18th, but was released yesterday.

I suppose for the Nationals its a no-lose "better the devil you know..." thing and the Marlins weren't in that position with the contract they signed McDougal to. I think he has value, and this is purely supposition on my part, but I believe he just wasn't ready to compete when he came into camp and not fully recovered from his off-season surgery. He (and the Marlins) would have been better off to wait until he was healed and better physically capable but you can't blame either side for signing the contract they did. Just didn't work out timing-wise.
