June 27, 201014 yr I'd like to see Logan Morrison given a chance up here. No idea how because Cantu has to get a bit hot if we can get anything interesting in a trade for him. Move Coghlan to 3rd, put Morrison in LF and let him play. The team could certainly use another left handed bat in the lineup going forward. That's all I have to say really about this team. It's just not very good at all.
June 27, 201014 yr Trade uggla for pitching. Trade cantu for some prospects. Try to keep Cody and spend some damn money
June 27, 201014 yr Rich and Tommy brought up a good point on how this team really needs that threat of a left handed bat in the middle of the order. That being said I agree with them and LoMo could be that guy and it really shouldn't take him long to adjust to MLB pitching as he is more of a pure hitter who hits with solid gap to gap power. The problem really is that while Uggla, Cantu and Ross are on the team none of them are going to be benched so if we can somehow make a solid trade including one of those guys, hopefully not Cody, for 2 solid pitching prospects then we can call up Morison and insert him into the middle of the lineup to hopefully be a spark like Coghlan was last season. Right now a trade looks like the only hope. Bullpen help and a new offensive player could put this team over that hump to start winning games more consistently.
June 27, 201014 yr I'm slowly sliding towards the give up on the season stage despite the fact I recently have been re-iterating the fact theres like 90 games yet. A poor series in Puerto Rico could signal the end
June 27, 201014 yr Well, it's almost July and we're 9 games behind in the division, and 8 games behind in the Wild Card. But, giving up after the next series it too early, IMO. We play the division leading Braves 6 more times before the TD. We also play the Rockies, Dodgers, and Giants before the TD. That's our chance to make up ground.
June 27, 201014 yr We were reading all the threads, why don't their bring up Stanton, calling him all the great names and the team will start winning when he comes up, like i say before, ripping up minor league pitching is far from major league pitching,
June 27, 201014 yr Tommy made a great point about how flawed this team, and more specifically this lineup, really is. The all right handed lineup makes it extremely easy for the opposition to match up with us, especially late in games. It was the same last season, but it is even more pronounced because there is no Ross Gload to plug in every now and then. You can't even spot start Lamb anywhere because he is so terrible. LoMo should get a chance soon, but as was mentioned, his promotion would have to follow a trade since we aren't sitting Cantu, Ross, or Uggla. This long road trip will make or break the season, so we'll definately know over the next 10-14 days where this team is going. Right now, it doesn't look promising. Also, can we just hire Valentine already?!? I get that Edwin managing in PR is a nice story and all, but come on. If you are going to make a change, just do it. Watching Rodriguez manage is like watching Fredi. Can someone explain why Tank was removed for Sanchez with Venable coming up? He just got a righty out, may as well let him try to finish the inning.
June 27, 201014 yr I mean when they do give up on the season... I'd like to see West come up and get Robertson's spot in the rotation too. Sure, he had a bad outing in Triple A in his last appearance, but I liked what I saw from him last season. I'd like to see him get some starts when they finally decide to give up. I know just because Logan Morrison is tearing up minor league pitching doesn't mean he's going to do the same in the majors. I'm not saying he's our savior to saving the season, I'm talking about writing off the season and that I'd like to see him to get some experience in the second half of this season. I don't know what their plans are with Ross and Uggla, but I think Cantu should be traded before the end of July. I won't even begin to comment upon what we should get for him as I have no clue. I just know that I like what Logan Morrison projects to be, a left handed bat with a little power who makes good contact, hits for average and walks as much as he strikeouts. Sure, he's had some injury troubles, but if he's healthy... lets move forward and get him some playing time. Morrison in LF, West in the rotation, RVH in the bullpen as a 1-2 7th inning specialist (he's had some bad outings in the minors lately)... just some inhouse moves for the future to see if we can find any gems in the rough that is the 2010 Marlins.
June 27, 201014 yr We were reading all the threads, why don't their bring up Stanton, calling him all the great names and the team will start winning when he comes up, like i say before, ripping up minor league pitching is far from major league pitching, newsflash...Jason Heyward is batting .251 Only a select few expected Stanton to come up and completely demolish the ball. The consensus was he would finish the season batting around .230-.240 with a lot of K's and around 15 home runs. That can still happen. Remember, HE'S A ROOKIE! 99.9999999999% of rookies struggle when they first enter the major leagues!
June 27, 201014 yr this team is f***ing depressing. were lucky the braves lost. truth is as bad as everything seems right now we can get back in this but im not so sure with this team, something needs to change. anyone know where we were at this time last year?
June 27, 201014 yr Morrison will have more immediate success than Stanton. I guarantee it. Stanton's struggles should come as no surprise. Stanton's a better prospect because of his raw power and his defense, and really his 5 tool ability, but Logan Morrison will be the more consistent hitter.

Time to play The Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaame!
June 27, 201014 yr Time to play The Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaame! Oh, for god's sake... you did that the last time I mistyped it. Hahaha, very funny. Will you just let it go and stay on topic?

Remember, HE'S A ROOKIE! 99.9999999999% of rookies struggle when they first enter the major leagues! Exactly. Mike is not going through anything that Heyward isn't dealing with. Look at Heyward's June numbers....they aren't pretty. Stanton's track record at every level has been he struggles at first, K's a ton and hits for a low average, but eventually he figures it out. This team's struggles aren't due to Stanton. He's doing just what could be expected right now. Give him some time. He is a very big part of the solution here.
June 27, 201014 yr We know from the very first game that the Florida Marlins is a .500 team and will hoover around .500 all season. There is no need to panic. Although they are flat now and they may be 6-8 games under .500 by the end of the next week, but they will bounce back to .500.
June 27, 201014 yr man last year we were 38-38 after june 27 and 40-39 by june 30. something has gotta go right for once becuase these losses are excruciating.
June 27, 201014 yr Sanchez was lucky to avoid a loss with the way this team is hitting. Cantus slow roller up the middle with 2 outs allowed the tying run to score before the typical bullpen blow up. Plus Sanchez gave up 4 walks only 1 of which scored and got out of trouble some times so he didnt really pitch that good. Venable could have had a grand slam in the 6th except the sac fly was hit to dead center. If Volstad would have come out after 6 inns too then he would have given up 0 runs. Sanchez is just more fortunate than him and Johnson. How much longer will we deal with Stanton "learning?" Morrison up?
June 27, 201014 yr Just call up Morrison, West, and Maybin and let them play. Trade Uggla, Cantu, and Ross. We'd have no one to play 2nd or 3rd, but whatever. Just let Bonifacio play. This season is a wash anyway.

June 28, 201014 yr Let's look at today in 2003 as that's when our manager was fired mid-year (and he was a good friend of Loria, lol). The Marlins were 4th place just one game under .500 (40-41) and 12 games out of first with Atlanta in first place. We were in 9th in the wildcard. There were 81 games to go. Now we're 5 games below .500 (35-40) in 4th place with 87 games to go and 8.5 games out of first with Atlanta in first place. Today we are in 7th place in the wildcard. Can it happen again? I guess that all depends on what Beinfest and Loria do over the next couple of weeks.
June 28, 201014 yr Can it happen again? I guess that all depends on what Beinfest and Loria do over the next couple of weeks. It's hard to really comment on considering that we know what happened in 2003. We know how good they turned out to be, but there are a few differences I can recall. First off, the 2003 team could actually play good defense. This 2010 unit... ugh. Even though AJ Burnett became injured, Willis was new, Beckett was still unproven... I would still say that pitching across the board was better too. Once again, it's really hard to look back and compare cos we know the end result of 2003, but I think the 2010 team is inferior to even the lowest point of that 2003 team. We'll see what happens though, I'd be delighted if the Marlins just had an amazing road trip. It's certainly long and daunting right now, but who knows... maybe this could be the kind of thing that can bring this team together and get them on a nice streak.
