gizmo
NEW YORK -- Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez has been added to the Home Run Derby during the All-Star break. The 2009 NL batting champion will participate in his first derby on Monday in Anaheim, Calif. He had 13 home runs entering the Marlins' game Thursday night at Arizona. Ramirez joins the Milwaukee Brewers' Corey Hart and St. Louis Cardinals' Matt Holliday from the National League. American League representatives include the Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera, Boston Red Sox's David Ortiz and Toronto Blue Jays' Vernon Wells. One more player from each league is needed to round out the field. The All-Star Game is Tuesday night. Good luck to him, but I don't think he can win it. Hopefully this doesn't mess up his swing! MrMarlinPride
He rips balls into the upperdeck in batting practice. I'm pretty sure he has that two swing thing. One all or nothing uppercut swing and then his natural linedrive swing that won him a batting title. I hope he can win it or at least put on a good show. dim
I don't think the derby will mess up Hanley's swing. He'll be fine. Do better than Uggla did in Yankee Stadium!

gizmo
Can't wait till Stanton is eventually at the Derby. Talk about a show.
MrMarlinPride
Was Brandon Inge not available? Hahah I thought the same thing. Which brings me to a question. Wasn't there an original group of players to be voted into the Derby? I remember on the ASG Ballot I voted for Dunn, Gonzalez, Howard for NL and Morneau, Miguey and Hunter for the AL. louiecastillo1
I don't think the derby will mess up Hanley's swing. He'll be fine. And if it does, It's not like we're going anywhere this year anyway. Imagine Hanley and Miggy in the final. I couldn't root against either one.
Dr Beinfest
Hanley Ramirez competing in all star home run derby #Marlins Good luck to him, but I don't think he can win it. Hopefully this doesn't mess up his swing! With Hanley if you give him that high and middle on the plate pitch I cant imagine him not missing it lol... Shaft
Hope he does great, but most importantly don't mess up his swing!
SilverBullet
I expect him to do very well as he's more of a natural hitter than an all or nothign power swing like Uggla... and i dont expect it to mess up his swing cause he seems to have two swings as it is. SilverBullet
Oh yeah and Stanton in the future should provide a Hamilton-like show in a couple years
I Love Me Some Fish
Didnt Uggla have a terrible 2nd half after he was in it in '08 (Yankee Stadium)?
MrMarlinPride
Didnt Uggla have a terrible 2nd half after he was in it in '08 (Yankee Stadium)? Yeah he did but it might be some psychological problems as he had a bad derby and did awful in the ASG. He also became more homerun happy. Here are the splits 1st Half: .286/.374/.605 23 HR 59 RBI (80 Games Started) 2nd Half: .226/.343/.396 9 HR 33 RBI (64 Games Started)

Rabbethan
Didnt Uggla have a terrible 2nd half after he was in it in '08 (Yankee Stadium)? The thing everyone forgets (and even forgot at the time) was that Uggla sustained a nagging ankle injury that changed his swing on June 28th. He missed 12 games and only played the LA series before the ASG, hitting .214 in that series. This was also the begging of the end of what was a very good defensive first half for him. Dr Beinfest
It's not like Hanley is exactly playing great right now... I mean still above average but not the Hanley from last season... maybe it will have the reverse effect?

I hope he wins the derby and then comes back to the Marlins and finishes the season with 35 HR's and 120 RBI's.
Hammerhead
I wonder who will throw to him. Didn't Fredi used to always do BP?
gizmo
#Marlins. Amend that. Hanley says he's 50-50 for HR Derby. Is concerned how it might impact his swing.
