Oswalt Traded To Phillies

Featured Replies

I want the trade to go through. This year doesn't matter as the Marlins are out of it and in '11 and '12 he'll get paid as an ace when he's no longer one plus the Phillies will give up prospects to get him.

I'm with you on this, but I wonder how deep the Phillies' pockets are, especially since they threw all of that money at Ryan Howard. The Mets and Cubs do things like this all of the time and they never seem to get slowed down.

The Phillies must be generating a lot of revenue with all of the sellouts they've been having the last couple of years.

Rotoworld:

Amy Nelson of ESPN.com reports that Roy swalt will receive an additional $1 million as compensation for buying out his 2012 option, waiving his no-trade clause, and incurring income taxes in Pennsylvania.

That's not quite what Oswalt first wanted - the $16 million option exercised and landing in St. Louis - but perhaps he is simply warming to the idea of getting out of Houston joining a contender. His demands have been dropping since he first requested a trade, and it's looking like this deal will get done any minute now.

Every single god damn year the Phillies dip into the top pitching at the trade deadline. I dont understand it.

Next thing you know they'll sign Satchel Paige ... he's still pitching, right?

It looks like the Astros will pay $11 million of the $23 million owed to Oswalt through next season. That changes things and it looks like a good deal for ths Phillies. They'll only pay Oswalt $12 million for a year plus 60 games.

It seems like the question right now is if the Astros will get Jonathan Singleton.

Isn't he a 1st baseman? if he is then he's obviously blocked, but maybe they wanna keep him as trade bait for a bigger trade later on.

this is why baseball definitely needs a salary cap. this is just completely unfair that we have to play on a level that is like 1/8 or 1/5 of the yankees or other high payroll teams. why should it be allowed for the phillies to acquire 3 aces in the course of a year while we cant sign a f***ing middle reliever for over the minimum?

I hope they traded away some top prospects for a guy who seems like a Rental for them at the moment and kind of screw up there future to try to be a contender this and next season.

Also something that goes well for the Phillies, Oswalt is 4-0 in his career at CBP with a 2.60 ERA and has been very good against the NL East in his career, except against Atlanta...

Completely agree h2r09,

Im sick and tired of seeing the big income teams getting all the great deals. I like seeing top talent play with middle or low line teams.

They have a high payroll but there's nothing wrong with that especially in their case where almost every player (maybe two exceptions) are home grown or acquired via trades or from the scrap pile.

Oswalt was with a bad Astros team for the past 3 seasons and he was with a good Stors team who made the playoffs many years and even got to the World Series.

Halladay played with a solid Toronto team that didn't have a chance at making the playoffs with the Yankees and Redsox dominating then the Rays finally got it together, speaking of Rays Carl Crawford was on a terrible Rays team for many years before they came out of nowhere in 08.

Not all of the highly talented players acquired by good teams have been on good teams before which is why they end up wanting to go to contenders.

i have no problem with the phillies doing it, because if they have the money then they have the right to, im just tired of the fact that this is allowed in baseball. its like they are clearly acknowledging that they allow the yankees to spend as much money as they want to put together a team and can give guys 15 million dollars and miss and still make the playoffs, while we can barely afford to give a reliever 2 million dollars or else it could ruin our entire season.

I just dont get why it should be allowed. hwy not even the playing field for all teams in the league? i just dont get it.

The Astros will flip newly-acquired prospect Anthony Gose to the Blue Jays, reports ESPN's Jayson Stark. The speedy, defensively-talented center fielder went to Houston as part of the Roy Oswalt deal.

3:41pm: The Blue Jays will send Brett Wallace to Houston for Gose, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports on Twitter.

Wow, Nice Job by the Astros to get Wallace but why would Toronto trade him away?

They don't have any other top 3rd base prospects in the organization...
