dim
Red Sox Designate Jeremy Hermida For Assignment By Tim Dierkes [July 31 at 2:40pm CST] The Red Sox designated outfielder Jeremy Hermida for assignment, tweets NESN's Heidi Watney. The 26-year-old signed with the Sox as a free agent after being non-tendered by the Marlins, but hit just .203/.257/.348 in 171 plate appearances. http://www.mlbtrader...assignment.html I think the "Bust" label is appropriate. h2r09
the guy has absolutely no fire or intensity when he plays and that will be part of the reason he has trouble finding a job besides the fact that he sucks. just not a hard working player. dim
http://www.marlinsbaseball.com/topic/91098-hermida-traded-to-boston/ I can't wait to see how you guys bitch when he goes off next year. You know it's going to happen. He couldn't have gone to a better franchise. --- But considering the move, I guess if this is all you can get whatever. Hunter is now the # 3 LHP reliever in our organization. I wonder if this move is the first in a great lefty acquisition, meaning we won't be paying Pinto double the minimum to stick around next year. I couldn't help myself

enterthemadness
Bust. Even Kotsay...who I think was a 1st rd pick...is still playing. Not trying to diss Kotsay, but his career line isn't isn't note worthy. Pretty good outfielder at one point with a pretty good arm and some pop in bat. Hermida is a bust. Maybe the Pirates will get him or something.
MrMarlinPride
Where you at Lou? I know you want him back for the Marlins' bench. I still would take him for a minor league contract for the Bench if he's released.

Erick
I don't want Hermida back as a bench player. I don't see how that's a good fit for him. Actually, part of the reason he was so horrible in Boston probably had to do with the fact that he was coming off the bench, and not getting enough AB's, on a consistent basis. He won't save you games defensively (we've seen Edwin substitute Petersen for Morrison in the late innings...not that I like the move, but in the case that Hermida would take over that role, I wouldn't have confidence in him). It's just not a good fit. He already failed here, anyway. The few diehard fans here know all about him, and he's not very well-liked. If anything, he needs to go to a horrible team/change of scenery where he can start most days, and maybe get his career together/somewhat live up to his potential. It's not going to happen here. MrMarlinPride
5:11pm: WEEI.com's Alex Speier says the Red Sox will continue to explore deals for Hermida in August if he clears waivers, which Speier says is a near certainty (Twitter links). Hermida could end up back in Boston's farm system if they don't find any takers. God damn, I'd love him on the bench but unless we trade for him and have the Redsoxs pay for at least 2 MM of his contract it won't happen. This is very true. He seems like a good fit for a team that isn't really going to be a contender or is a big name city like Oakland, Cleavland, Pirates. K.C. (Who has just recently put their big prospect Bust Alex Gordon in LF), maybe Baltimore depending on how much longer they'd keep Pie and Patterson. He could be an average to slightly above average MLB player in his career but like you said he's going to need to be a full time starter and work his way up. Admin
Some team will pick him up if he gets released. A minor league team. Well, I meant that a franchise will pick him up and assign him to a minor league team. Or are you just trying to be colorful? Hermida's minor league numbers are spectacular and he had a good 2007 major league season. He's not out of baseball yet. Someone will give him a year in AAA. MrMarlinPride
You guys...he's still young....lol I was one of the "lets wait" guys but wow. He really does look like a complete bust. Well that's because he is still young. He turned 26 this year and he still has a shot to be a solid contributor on an MLB team. You really never know because some guys are late bloomers potential wise like Ludwick, Nelson Cruz and Jayson Werth. Those guys are all pretty useful mlb players aren't they... You have not seen enough of this guy yet to know he's never going to be a good ball player. Depends what you think a good ballplayer is... His career line is .259/.337.419/.755 which is about average to slightly above average in the MLB. This season is definitely the worst season of his career and could be to as previously stated the fact that he hasn;t been in a fulltime starting job along with being injured for a period of time. He definitely is a bust to all they potential he had along with hype and outstanding Minor League Stats but that's not to say he can't be an average to above average player the rest of his career and put up respectable numbers for whatever team gives him the chance to be a starter and a part of their franchise. To say you wouldn't want Hermida over guys like Peterson, Lamb, Bonifacio and possibly Carroll as an everyday player is a bold statement.
