Congrats Dan Uggla!

I figured he needed a thread of his own..... Congrats to the Marlins' new HR king!

It's a great achievement for him. I'm just upset it took the team this long to put him in the cleanup spot.

Sign him. 3 years. Go.

3yr/30 mil do it.

I Wish he takes that.

He's worth much much more but he needs to take one for the team, maybe if we give him a No Trade or something to please him.

Maybe the FO will pull a 4yr/43 mil deal out of no where.

It could be possible. Something in the lines of 3 years/34 Mil or 4 years/43 Mil could be a good deal since he want to stay in Florida but by that 3rd or 4th year if everything goes well, we will need to trade him unless he can play 3rd and Dominguez just is a bust but we'll get to that bridge when we cross it.

Congrats, indeed, for Uggla. Is it just me, or does 144 seem a little low for the all time HR record for a team? At any rate, Dan just needs to keep adding onto that total. Shouldn't be too tough the way he's swinging the bat lately.

It will be interesting because this will be Dan's one big payday

Yeah he has really taken off in the 4 spot.

Really who would have thought 4 years ago when they first saw Uggla that hed' be the Marlins home run king. I just remember thinking wow this little guy packs a punch.

Hes gotta be my favorite Marlin of all time.

I remember seeing Uggla's numbers in AA and thinking that's nice, but how many guys have hit 20 homers in AA and been completely useless up here? But he really took off after a few weeks that first year, and it really seemed like he could have the opportunity to be something good. Who could have known that he'd be this good though.

I really enjoyed the postgame interview with Dan. He was extremely gracious, and humble. Dan thanked the organization for giving him the chance to play. I thought it was really great that he expressed it. If it weren't for the "fire sale" and Beinfest having to look for cheap players, Dan may have never go the chance to play. His is a "male" Cinderella story, lol . And it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. :notworthy

Many more years as a Marlins, Dan :thumbup

And many more times I want to hear........and is name is........DAN UG-GLA!!!! :D

When Uggla signs a big contract (with us, hopefully) does he send a thank you card to Pokey Reese?

I think Uggla would have shone through Pokey Reese. I don't know if Reese was even going to start even if he had stayed. But he was an option and when he left there were none but Uggla. He wasn't a very good option and the FO had to know this, plus with the way they were throwing all the unproven youngsters into the fire that year, I don't see them going with a guy who had as poor of a hitting career as Reese as a starter.

I have know similar stories though. Angel Pagan only made the Cubs as a bench player that year after Marquis Grissom retired in ST. He was a minor league farmhand until he got his window of opportunity with Grissom's retirement, and had enough skill to stick around in the majors as a bench player for a couple years. He's transformed himself into a legitimate outfield option in that process, and is currently a big boost to a Mets squad that has had a lot of problems in their outfield with injuries and such.

I sat behind Loria over at Dodgertown at a game in the spring of 2006 and remember him saying they weren't so sure about Uggla :lol

Of course it was still early in ST

I really hope that Uggla can be a Marlin for life. I know he's in line for a big pay day but think the team can figure out a way to pay him more when the stadium opens. And to the person who said 144 is a low home run leader, it's true. Only the Rays have a lower leader. It just has to do with the age of the team. The D'backs and Rockies have guys like Luis Gonzalez and Todd Helton that top their leaderboards. If Uggla finishes his career with us I can see him around 250 or more and that would put us on par with a lot of the expansion era franchises.

Does anyone else get this feeling that Dan Uggla is single handedly carrying this offense at the moment? Him, along with a bit of pop from Stanton and then good pitching is what's been getting us wins, really.

You've got the slumping Hanley, slumping Sanchez, averages dipping for Cody and Paulino, Coghlan injured, and a hole at 3B...
