Anyone else very excited for the start of the season?

Featured Replies

Yeah, I'm excited.

As a sidenote, does anyone who has MLB Network know if they show some extra Spring Training games there? Maybe catch a couple of extra Marlins games on TV before the season starts? They usually only show a couple on FS Florida. My dad recently got MLB Network, so I was just wondering.

You do know Jupiter really isn't that far away from Miami Lakes. You don't even need a passport.

Really??????????????????????????????????????????

Oh man...THANKS! Every year when the Marlins say they're playing their Spring Training games in Jupiter, I've always assumed that they'd be playing on Jupiter, the planet.

I'm even more excited now! Thanks for the great Geography lesson. What would we ever do without you?

I approve of this post.

The situation at 3rd base is making me nervous. I'm really afraid we're going to end up with a situation like 2009, where having a guy like Bonifacio starting the majority of the year costs us down the line.

That, and I'm not liking the absence of Uggla.

It's also a bit early to tell what this bullpen will do. On paper they're a hell of a lot better than last year, but the 2010 Mariners were supposed to be playoff contenders (on paper). So we'll see.

The 2010 Mariners also basically had everything go wrong for them; also, our offense isn't nearly as bad as theirs was on paper, and our offense has more upside, as well.

I'm not really sure how you can compare the Marlins '11 offense to the Mariners '10 offense that ended up being one of the worst of all-time. Don't get me wrong, you're right in saying that there are some question marks with this offense, but it's really a league average offense. And really...I say league average offense because I'm not expecting Mike Stanton to become the phenom that he projects to be in '11. But really...who the hell knows? He hit 43 HR's between AA and MLB, and despite occasional slumps, he still ended up hitting over 20 HR's in the big leagues in limited AB's last year. Mike Stanton's power, alone, can make this an above average offense if he lives up to the hype, early.

We pretty much know what we're getting out of Coghlan, Logan, Hanley, and Gaby assuming they stay healthy. They all seem pretty safe to project, imo.

Yeah, I'm excited.

Probably watch the Marlins on TV.

Oh. Wait.

Yeah, I'm excited.

Yes. When the Marlins play, there's only one person in the stands: You. We're just like the silly bandwagon fans on here. We never go to games. We just watch...actually scratch that, we just look at the box scores the morning after, and analyze statistics. We know nothing about the game. You're clearly superior; teach us some more.

I can't wait until March, so you can tell us how Ozzie Martinez should start over Hanley Ramirez (or as you'd call him..."superstar") because Ozzie is better defensively, and thus fits in better with this team's new "mantra" of "pitching, defense, and speed."

I'm just going to hibernate until March, and then come on this board so you can enlighten me some more on the Marlins, trade rumors, geography, and all that other good stuff.

I didn't buy the Mariners at all before last season (and the posts are there to prove it). The Mariners had no power. The Marlins have Ramirez and Stanton. Even Gabby would have led their team in HRs.

I'm guessing that some of those people who don't believe in this team (on paper) have the Braves as favorites to win the wildcard.

My question would be: what's the difference between the Braves and Marlins on paper? The team's are very similar on paper, and built pretty much the same way. I think the Marlins front office saw the Braves play against the Marlins 19x last year, and said: "we want to be like this team with their deep rotation, and balanced, quality bullpen."

Seriously, I don't see the differences between the two teams. Maybe someone can explain to me why the Braves are better on paper. Popular opinion seems to be that they have to be the favorites to win the wildcard.

They are the favorites because of last season + Dan Uggla. I happen to think that both the Marlins and Braves have similar flaws.

Are you now just discovering BroncoBob's schtick here? He's been talking down to people on account of him having season tickets for years. Whenever he sees an opportunity to aggrandize himself and belittle the non-season ticket holder, he never balks.

The Phils signing of Lee took the wind out of my sail. Each year I want to believe that this team if things go right, and potential is fulfilled, can win the division, but in 2011 this team has no chance. First year in a while I've felt that way and its very depressing, even if one can say this team has improved. Our only shot is WC, and there we'll have six other times to battle it out with. Of course thats not to say we can't win the WC but its not the battle cry thats all that satisfying taking into a season.

Because the inequality in big market v medium and small market teams so sucks and skews the hopes of fans of teams that can't afford to lay out 20M a yr to keep their stars or sign a big time/big money free agent, its actually a good thing to me to see the number of wild card slots expand. I hope in the future that happens.

I just hope for an entertaining and fun season and that I can manage to get through the entire season without a heart attack or ripping out all my hair (especially because what I *did* rip out from this year is starting to grow back again heh)

Yeah, I'm excited.

What the heck are you talking about? Throwing a little tantrum again?

We are near the bottom of the list for attendance every year and this year season ticket sales dropped. ST games aren't any better, unless we are playing a team other fans are interested in. And yet you are trying to gloss all this over by making up things to bash me? Not even a nice try.

Are you now just discovering BroncoBob's schtick here? He's been talking down to people on account of him having season tickets for years. Whenever he sees an opportunity to aggrandize himself and belittle the non-season ticket holder, he never balks.

Not at all true. But if it makes you feel better, please continue.

It's embarassing to be the laughing stock of MLB when it comes to attendance. Every year. And of our fan base, which I am a part of.

Guys leave here because they like to play in front of people. Payroll has been low because "money coming in will equal money going out". Spin that any way you want to, or have to because the truth is not acceptable to you.

Because I refuse to ignore our ever present problem of attendance? I gladly accept that status.

Been in a foul mood since the Holiday Party when I found out sales had dropped for 2011. People got the preferred seating for 2012 and then either dropped their current plans or downgraded them. Pretty much speaks volums that we are a "place to be seen" type fan base, but dosen't speak well for what will happen after 2012, IMO. And we may very well be part of the problem in 2013. We are trying it for one season to see if it is logistically and financially feasible to continue with the same plan. If not, we are downgrading ours. But we won't be blaming others for the drop in attendance like so many here like to do. We will know we are part of the problem.

i'm a die-hard marlins fan and i detest going to games. crucify me.

(love spring training though)

:lol

So you say it's not true, then you proceed to rant about attendance? How can you say it's not true if you are doing that exact thing to Erick in this thread? How are you not talking down to him?

How many times have you gone out of your way to boast about being a season ticket holder here? Just a couple of days ago you started a thread about being at the season ticket holder holiday party, as if you were trying to pass yourself off as a bigshot.

Come on, Bob, you are as transparent as they come. We grew tired of your antics long ago.

EDIT: I just read your second post where you brag about being at the holiday party again. :lol

Don't worry, we are all very impressed. :lol

Also, nobody is denying that attendance is poor, but you are preaching to the wrong choir. This forum probably represents the most loyal demographic of Marlins fans you will find.

The Marlins don't have poor attendance because people on this forum don't go to enough games. They have poor attendance because the remaining 99.99% of the people in South Florida don't give a damn about the Marlins.

So I suggest sparing us of your nonsense and taking it to the streets if you want to talk down to people for not going to games.

I'm not even sure why I'm responding to this, but whatever.

I never denied that our attendance was crap. However, to basically bash the people on here for the fact that attendance is crap is extremely idiotic. The people on mb.com seem fairly loyal to this team.

You're not the only Marlins' season ticket holder, Bob.

Back on topic, I'm very excited about the start of the season. As much as I've been in probably the past 5 years.

Boy, you sure killed this thread. :p
