As long as we are talking about the stats I should mention Omar Infante even with a .321 BA, had a mediocre Obp. The idea with Infante is that he has good bat control, he'll put the ball in play, and he projects to have maybe the 3rd best OBP over Hanley (who'll of course bat in the middle of the lineup), and Logan Morrison.

Cogs certainly has a shot to be better than Infante. One advantage Infante does have, if Morrison is 2nd, is to make the lineup go righty/lefty. But that could change depending on who's 1st or 2nd, of course.

Gaby's strikeout rate was one of the most favorable on the team last season. Infante averaged an OBP of around .360 over 2009 and 2010. That's not mediocre. It's very good actually. He does owe a lot of that to AVG, but he'd have to tank a lot to not be good enough as a lead off hitter. In that case, if Coghlan were hitting, I'd move him to lead off and keep Morrison at #2.

Perhaps, but at this point you have to give the benefit of the doubt to the guy with the good 2010 (Infante) over the guy who looked lost at the plate for most of 2010 (Coghlan), unless spring training really shakes things up.

Perhaps, but at this point you have to give the benefit of the doubt to the guy with the good 2010 (Infante) over the guy who looked lost at the plate for most of 2010 (Coghlan), unless spring training really shakes things up. Well, don't forget, as we've beard a hundred times, Gaby won't be here by the start of spring training.

December 24, 201015 yr Helms and Boni and we know how that story goes. Coghlan should be at third until Dominguez has a good year in the high minors. If Dominguez is not ready, and there is little reason to believe that he is, and Coghlan can't play CF, the whole thing kind of collapses.
