May 29, 201115 yr According to the LA Times, the fire wasn't "in some concession food warehouse somewhere out in the parking lot," as Rich and Tommy were led to believe and said on-air about 22 times, it was IN the stadium: Smoke drifted through the reserve level and curled down to the loge level. From a truck parked in an adjacent parking lot, fire fighters scaled a ladder and climbed into the top deck of the ballpark. Fans had to be relocated. A police helicopter circled nearby airspace. There was a fire in Dodger Stadium. [snip] The fire originated in a small warehouse on the reserve level, according to Dodgers spokesman Joe Jareck. Fire officials said a small fire of paper products was put out in 20 minutes. No injuries were reported. [snip] http://www.latimes.c...0,6522475.story 20 minutes. :lol In the same article it's noted that the Dodgers charge $30 to bring your dog to "Bark in the Park." The Marlins charge $6. It's ridiculous that there is ANY charge at all when that's the whole purpose and the entire idea of the promotion, but, OK, maybe some fans/dogs leave a mess that causes extra costs. But, 30 bucks? For a dog? C'mon. Dogs work hard for their money and they obviously couldn't afford it. Only 580 dogs showed up. Pitiful. We attract about 3 times as many. Our dogs go for a good deal. Their dogs spurn a bad deal. Dogs (and their owners) are obviously sensitive to market forces. LA could learn something from that, but probably won't. The whole thing is just another sad chapter in the story of LA and the Dodger's franchise. You could say it's going to the dogs, but they don't want it. First, you fold like a cheap lawn chair down the stretch last year. Then, your manager splits. Meanwhile, you've failed to lock-up guys like Ethier. Then, your owner and his wife split up in a exceedingly nasty divorce. Then, some of your local gang "fans" beat the crap out of a visiting SF fan which will wind up costing you $10 or 20 million in damages. Then, you find that your soon-no-longer-to-be "owner" is essentially insolvent and you miss a payroll and MLB takes over the day-to-day operation of your franchise. What else could possibly go wrong? A fire in the stadium? :lol Maybe that $30 is for dog and owner. I think the Marlins' price of $6 is just the dog, then there is the owner's ticket also. Still cheaper, but we have known for years that our ticket prices are among the cheapest in MLB. Also that attendance figure of dogs dosen't coincide with what Tommy and Rich said. Not even close. Like over 1000 and closer to 2000. They had a doggie parade before the game. McCourt has announced to MLB that he has the payroll covered for this month. Also something about waiting for MLB to okay some multi billion dollar TV deal so they can become solvent again. That divorce and now the law suit has them very cash strapped. That's apparently the reason they haven't secured any of their arbitration eligible stars long term. MLB is "monitoring" their day to day runnings and if they miss payroll then MLB will take over and shove ownership aside. I really don't think that will happen. This is a storied franchise with a very good fan base. I just find it a little hard to kick a franchise like this when they are down.
May 29, 201115 yr Is Dobbs ever going to fall back down to Earth? Lets hope not...I doubt Loria wants to spend $$$ on a 3B. Esp knowing the team is 30-20 WITH Hanley hitting like .210. He knows once Hanley is awake...yeah, liekly playoffs. At this point I feel like Hanley isn't going to put up normal "Hanley" #'s. I'm sure he'll have stretches were he looks like Hanley but I don't see him going on some prolonged tear. He's still walking so it could be worse.
May 29, 201115 yr Is Dobbs ever going to fall back down to Earth? seriously. Probably the biggest surprise of the season so far for me.
May 29, 201115 yr Just found this funny but according to the Dodgers announcer Gary Sheffield was a rookie back in 1995. He was talking about how Stanton's first major league homer was a grandslam and how he was the 2nd marlin rookie to do so and that Gary Sheffield was the first back in 1995 as a rookie. I may be mistaken but didn't Jeremy Hermedia also have a GS on his first ML homer as a rookie?? I don't think we want to use that type a entrance to be an indication of things to come if I'm right.

Finally I see someone post that they too believe hanley isn't going to put up normal hanley-like numbers. It's about 1/3 through the season now and this isn't just a slump any longer, it has become the 2011 reality for him. I didn't think he looked all that comfortable last year either for what it's worth. It would take a monster output to get up to his career average numbers from here on out and there is NO SIGN of him improving anywhere. We see the little 2-3 game stretch every once in awhile but those are always bracketed by a lot of oh-fer games...there has been no consistency and I'm going to throw my tv out the window if I hear tommy and rich say (after hanley gets an opposite field hit) "oh it looks like hanley is showing some signs of coming out of his slump" just one more time, i'll lose it. he also either needs to shed some of that massive bulk he has or learn to get better leads from first.
May 29, 201115 yr Was Helms' double a fair ball? I've only briefly seen the highlights and saw that Mattingley came out to argue.

I agree with what you're saying. I listen to the games on 790 The Ticket, and they frequently mention that when Hanley comes out of his slump there will be no stopping him, and I always cringe when I hear that. It's like putting all this faith in a player who, yeah he's won the silver bat and has had a great career, but we're already approaching the third month of the season and he's doing everything wrong. His base stealing percentage is so average I'd rather him not try to run at all. On the topic of base stealing, they were also saying on 790 like three nights ago that Edwin said the only player that has the green light to attempt to steal 2nd whenever he wants is Hanley, the other players need to be given permission. I'm starting to wonder if that should be rethought. I don't know. I'm just frustrated at Hanley, because the way this team has been playing this season we really can't afford him to be slumping like this. He could make a big difference in the push to surpass The Phillies.

May 29, 201115 yr To be honest if the dodgers are charging 5 times as we are for dogs and drawing 1/3 the number of dogs, they still come out ahead on revenue and thus profits...
May 29, 201115 yr To be honest if the dodgers are charging 5 times as we are for dogs and drawing 1/3 the number of dogs, they still come out ahead on revenue and thus profits... Except the marlins make nothing for concession stand sales. So anyway you put it youre right. Um, he wasn't talking about hot dogs.....
May 29, 201115 yr Maybe that $30 is for dog and owner. Nope. PRICE: Human $30: All-You-Can-Eat RF Pavilion ticket that includes unlimited Dodger Dogs, nachos, peanuts, popcorn, Coke products, and water Dog $30: includes ticket to the RF Pavilion, Dog Goody Bag, and participation in the pup rally and parade http://losangeles.do...ng/barkpark.jsp $60 for one adult plus one dog. Here, that would be $18. They don't indicate any child price, so one adult, one kid and one dog would be $90, here, that would be $24.
May 29, 201115 yr 30 - 20 !!!!!! Road Warriors win another one!!! Mikey needs to start putting the bat on the ball with runners on 3rd and less than 2 outs... He has a wire loose or something
May 29, 201115 yr I love LoMo's tweet last night LoMoMarlins Logan Morrison 14 hit attack by Los Marlins tonight. We almost burnt this mother down. Literally.

And to whoever said maybe the $30 was for the dog and owner...it was $30 each to get into the park. Such a ridiculous promotion.
May 29, 201115 yr sounds like an enterprising food service employee got caught smoking a doob in the warehouse and dropped his roach in dry storage before the manager saw Good game. Nice, easy, no acid reflux, no leo nunez scare me to death, no anxiety attack stress free baseball.
