Post Game 8/8/11

Recommended Posts

I'm dreading the next or final free game of the day the team has at MLB.com...hope Vaz starts it though.

Marlin of year is Vaz, Boni, Stanton, or a BP guy. Course I am banking on Vaz ending year with a ERA under 4.50...ani & Ricky too so-so at times.

No he's not; not even close.

Aww Enter, no love for Dobbs. He has been one of the more consistent players when called upon. Has filled in on 3rd when needed and hasn't been a hindrance with the bat like the majority of the team at points through the season. This was surprising especially considering his past few years in Philly.

The Marlin of the year is Mike Stanton. He's the best player on the team. It's obvious.

Marlin of the year is Dobbs or Bonifacio, there hasn't really been a best player this year though when all is said and done Dobbs has been most consistent as well as the most clutch I think thats a no-brainer.

Stanton has been good but he's not the Marlin of the year a .261 average isn't Marlin of the year, I don't care what kind of power he has.

Marlins of the year don't strike out with the bases loaded in the 9th either. (Yes I was there)

Re: Clutch:

Runners in scoring position:

Greg Dobbs - .748 OPS, 27 RBI/85 PA ~ .32 RBI/PA with RISP.

Mike Stanton - .789 OPS, 42 RBI/127 PA ~ .33 RBI/PA with RISP.

Late and Close:

Greg Dobbs - .734 OPS, 12 RBI/64 PA ~ .19 RBI/PA Late and Close.

Mike Stanton - .885 OPS, 18 RBI/76 PA ~ .24 RBI/PA Late and Close.

In the two most "clutch" situations, Stanton has a higher OPS and is getting RBI at a higher rate than Dobbs. And he's a much better fielder. Heck, he's faster, too,

im glad the marlins lost the last game i will be able to attend at sun life.

interesting how the program for the game had gaby on the front and called him "Mr. Consistency". yeah my f***ing ass.

gaby has been horrible the last 1.5 months barring that good game he had against the mets.

ive been saying this for a while but hes like the last guy i want up in a key situation. especially late in the game.

those 4 runs with 2 outs were infuriating as well as the call on petersen in the 9th.

I love how you only use "some" stats to back up your claims, I don't only use stats I use my eyes.

If baseball was played on paper (which I know you wish it was, it would be boring as hell.)

Concerning Close and Late:

Dobbs is batting .322

Stanton is batting .224

Not even close, I'll take batting average AND OBP over SLG any day of the week.

Yea Stanton is going to have more RBI's but that's probably due to the fact that he starts everyday and has more power.

Besides that it doesn't change the fact that Dobbs has been more "consistent" and has stepped up more in clutch situations this year.

Not saying Stanton hasn't had clutch moments just not as many as Dobbs, not this year at least.

I was going to debate Stanton/Dobbs, but I'm not because it's not worth my time. Mystikol already used numbers, anyway. If you want to "use your eyes," go ahead.

I can use my eyes too. My eyes say that Stanton's batting average is that low, in part, because he gets garbage pitches in those situations. Because he's the only guy who really scares an opponent with his power, in the sense of taking over a game. He's been hitting 6th most of the year with guys like Mike Cameron, John Buck, etc. protecting him in the lineup.

And power is more important than anything else for a hitter, anyway.

Also, mystikol's not nitpicking stats. Those are basically the numbers for every clutch situation available.

DOBBS DOESN'T EVEN PLAY EVERY DAY!

This is the only thing I'll disagree with, you had good points with everything else.

If a hitter has just power and nothing else, you get Mark Reynolds or Adam Dunn. Stanton isn't exactly in that grouping with them, since I believe he's capable of hitting .300 at some point with a ton less strikeouts, but you get what I'm saying.

I don't think the other member has either to be honest.

Are you claiming to know both the "true" and "false" identities of Jalenasmustache? :shifty

Ha no, I was talking about Hurricane I believe. I think he was the "should we be worried."

I don't know what was up with the jalena. Still haven't figured that out.
