Brad Hand optioned to AA

Hanley Ramirez placed on 15-Day DL retroactively to August 3

Chris Volstad and Jose Ceda promoted

Marlins Baseball, where exciting stuff happens.

Pretty big flurry of moves.

Maybe Volstad can figure it out when late in the year when the season doesn't matter like last year?

EDIT: I use the word 'big' very loosely.

Volstad will go something like 4-1 with a 4.00 ERA to finish the season, ensuring he will be a fixture in the 2012 Marlins rotation, where he will once again suck and have an ERA over 5.

volstad still didnt throw strikes in the minors. he is what he is. a bad pitcher who cant throw strikes. he is a long reliever

Boring moves...

Uh. What do you want?

I'd like if they would stop jerking Ceda around and see if he can establish himself now that nothing's on the line.

LoMo calling out Hanley again?

Logan Morrison talking about the team’s offensive struggles following Wednesday’s 6-2 loss to the Braves took a not so subtle jab at Ramirez, saying: “What we don’t have is experience and a veteran who is in the lineup every day that can be an anchor for us. We don’t have it.

Asked whether Ramirez could be that anchor, Morrison said: “I guess, but he’s not there every game. It’s 162 games. It’s not a 100-game season.

Remember, it was Morrison who earlier this season called out Ramirez in the clubhouse for his arrival times…

Agreed, there isn't a whole lot on the farm worthy of promotion, did anyone expect Villanueva to get the call? West maybe?Koehler? hardly! If you want a surprise call up how about Chris Sampson?

I certainly hope that Ceda can pitch like he's been able to in the minors

he's probably right, but he has to stop openly talking to the media about it like that. that doesnt help anything.

LOL. probably

It's really one thing for Morrison to call out Hanley.

But what irks me the most about his comment is that he's essentially deflecting blame. He hasn't exactly been so great this year either. I know he lacks experience at the major league level, but he needs to worry more about what he can do to do help this team, because everything else is out of his control.

I agree with LoMo we need and anchor in the lineup and I do wonder if Hanley can be it. However he can't get on Hanley like he misses a bunch of games year after year. Last year was the first year he missed a significant amount. If you count missing 20 something games a significant amount.

The plot thickens...

@JCRMarlinsbeat funny how u left the part out about how unfortunate it is that he was hurt and that he could be an anchor if he was healthy

@JCRMarlinsbeat probably wouldn't have been that good of a story then! Might want to think twice about coming around my locker next time

Pretty weak work by Juan Rodriguez but the guy hates Hanley so no surprise there.

So he didn't really say anything controversial. Freaking writers.

Good for LoMo. Someone has to call Hanley out once in a while. He gets pissed when its done, pouts, but then gets aggressive to show the doubter up.

I think its been established that Hanley has unbelievable potential, but will probably never realize it, because he doesn't have the right mental makeup. He's been damaged goods because at a young age he started being pampered and liked it. Everyone has been telling him he is the greatest since he was 15 or 16 and instead of working hard to prove that is true, he believes it and just sits back on his laurels. He can be a very good player without working on it, and he is satisfied with that. Its very disappointing to see someone with so much talent, waste it.

I'm really dissapointed with the way the team has handled Hand (pun absolutely intended). He clearly wasn't ready, and demoting Volstad wasn't absolutely necessary.

I also agree with the comment above about giving Ceda a proper shot. Hopefully they give Petersen some regular starts as well.

I just wanna see Dominguez up since we've got nothing to lose.

lol Juan way to stir up a bunch of crap.

Hopefully they give Petersen some regular starts as well.

yes, which some of us were arguing when they brought Mike Cameron in. We're out of the running, Cameron is not a part of the future here, this is time they should be using to take a good look at Petersen and start him for a while. He's at worst probably going to be the 4th outfielder here next season so he could use the at-bats. Coghlan's out for now, what is there to lose?

Meanwhile Cameron is hitting .200.

Hopefully they give Petersen some regular starts as well.

You couldn't ask for a better situation to give Petersen a strong evaluation. They seemed intent on starting him before acquiring Cameron, but seemingly decided they value the temporary veteran presence in the outfield more than giving a shot to a possible future piece.

This really bothers me for some reason. Writers will spin anything for a story. I knew the article was a distortion of the truth right when I read it. I don't care if he's a respected writer or not. He's a little lying sack of you know what in my opinion.

"Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez has been on the 15-day disabled list since Wednesday (retroactive to Aug. 3) with a sprained left shoulder and is eligible to be reinstated Thursday. Ramirez, though, isn't sure if he'll be ready to return by that date. The shortstop said the shoulder recently popped out of place while he was sleeping. The team is taking a wait-and-see approach."

How long can he be a shortstop with his instabil shoulder?

It is only getting easier and easier for the joint to dislocate...
