November 4, 201115 yr Makes sense. Howard might miss a good chunk of games next season, so you sign someone who hasn't played 1B since 2005.

November 5, 201115 yr You guys are talking like Ryan Howard could actually play 1B to begin with. All kidding aside, I think it's a nice stopgap signing for them.
November 5, 201115 yr So, does he get cheered or booed? Why would they boo him? I thought he's well-loved everywhere, including my heart.
November 5, 201115 yr So, does he get cheered or booed? Why would they boo him? I thought he's well-loved everywhere, including my heart. And naturally, being in Philadelphia, nothing will make any sense. Interesting tidbit. We've come across friendly Nationals fans on the internet. We've come across friendly Braves fans on the internet. We've surprisingly come across a surplus of friendly Mets fans on the internet. But have you ever seen a friendly Phillies fan on the internet?
November 5, 201114 yr I've met Thome before.. literally the nicest man on the planet. That's what everyone seems to say. I have nothing but respect for the man and think he doesn't get nearly as much as attention as he should. 1st ballot HOF'er and I believe it should be unanimous. Of course, it won't be. But it should.
November 5, 201114 yr I've met Thome before.. literally the nicest man on the planet. Thats what everyone says about serial killers and rapist, before they get caught Just kidding. I would also like to mention again that I hate the Phillies. That is all.
November 6, 201114 yr Apparently he's coming off the bench, not starting at 1st. I see the Phils starting John Mayberry, Jr. at first base while Howard's out. And Howard improved a lot defensively this year, I noticed. [Replying to Erick's (probably sarcastic) comment about Howard's defense.]

BR.com's fielding stat had it as his 3rd worst.
November 9, 201114 yr Yeah, Howard's terrible defensively. If he played every game against the Fish he'd have a gold glove ... I swear every ball hit sharply to him by us was fielded cleanly.
November 9, 201114 yr For as bad as Howard is, future Marlin Prince Fielder is even worse. And that's before his knees give out.
November 9, 201114 yr The only reason why I don't want Fielder is because he'll make Albert Pujols Gold Glove defense have to move over to 3rd base. And really... since Reyes will be here, that makes an odd predicament for where to play Hanley since he wont fit in the OF because Cespedes will be there.
