The State of the Marlins' Rotation

Josh Hamilton is a free agent next year insofar as offensive options are concerned.

Greinke, Hammels, Cain (and more) are FA pitchers next year.

I have a feeling however the Yanks and Red Sox are going to be all over that FA pitching next off-season.

I would expect they would be, but then we would only need 1 of them with JJ and Buerhle under wraps

Since our promising internal pitching prospects (Chad James and Jose Fernandez) are a solid 2-3 years away at best, we have to be aggressive in FA until then.

3 time top 5 Cy Young candidate, multiple Silver Slugger and All Star - as well as total head case, added to rotation.

Beinfest said #Marlins rotation is set, doesnt anticipate more changes; Ozzie will decide the order but JJ & Buehrle will go 1, 2

Liking the Big Z trade more and more. I really think he's going to kill it. Cards fans are happy he's out of the division...

Gavin Floyd's name is still being thrown around, anyone interested? He's due 7 million next season which isn't terrible. Sox would probably want pitching prospects though, and we're kinda thin there...

I've vouched for Floyd several times would love to acquire him and ship nolasco. Floyd is better and cheaper.

Nolasco is a fine and dandy #4-5 pitcher. Price doesn't matter this year.

I agree.. but if you can go out and get someone like Matt Garza, I really think they should. Give up Gaby/Yelich/Dominguez/whatever to get him.. and then you're kinda forced to move Nolasco. A rotation of JJ, Buehrle, Garza, Sanchez, Zambrano will match up with anybody...

..and then if you sign Cespedes (and like Bob mentioned in another thread, take Marlon Byrd off the Cubs hands in Garza trade), the team is set. All of a sudden we have an exciting, young lineup and one of the best rotations, bullpens and benches (Byrd/Dobbs) in the league.

could probably say it about either one if they have a bounce-back season, but especially for Zambrano considering how good he was a few years ago - put him in the #5 spot and if he turns things around he's going to beat up on all the other #5 pitchers out there and win 15 games.

Well, if he ends up like he was a few years ago, he'd end up being the #3 later on in the year, most likely. He wouldn't stay a #5 with really good numbers.

I'm interested to see how the rotation -- as it is right now -- performs in the first half and what changes Ozzie will make to it post All-Star Break.
