February 2, 201214 yr The Nationals have agreed to sign Edwin Jackson, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.comtweets. The deal between the Nationals and the Scott Boras client is pending a physical, Heyman notes. The Nationals' projected starting rotation includes Jackson, Gio Gonzalez, Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann and Chien-Ming Wang. John Lannan and Ross Detwilerwould provide depth, though Lannan is now on the trade block. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/02/nationals-to-sign-edwin-jackson.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
February 2, 201214 yr Just about to post this. The Nationals are getting to be scary. I wonder about the length though.
February 2, 201214 yr Author jackson is a 1 year deal, believed to be in $8-to-12M range. #nats -Heyman
February 2, 201214 yr Author Their rotation is probably 2nd best in the NL East now. Still, the offense isn't anything to write home about.
February 2, 201214 yr What a lineup!!!!! Nat's are indeed scary. Signing Buehle (former teammate) just became more of a big deal. Just as Jackson can tip Nat's batters about Buerhle's ways, we will have the same intel on him. Things like if you see him point his toe this way... expect _(insert pitch type)_ to be hurled.
February 2, 201214 yr Oy. You've done something right when your #4 is Jordan Zimmerman/Edwin Jackson. And they don't get stuck with a long-term obligation, so they have cash for next offseason with all the arms available then. Great job by the Nats.
February 2, 201214 yr He'll stink it up for the first half of the season, get traded and then have a good second half and parlay that in to a new deal.
February 2, 201214 yr Id venture to say that the Nationals have a rotation that has better guarantees than the Marlins, but the Marlins have a better upside. Of course, that all changes if Strasburg is a monster next season. More likely than not, their rotation will outpitch ours. But if we get exactly what we want and they get exactly what they want, I'd imagine ours is better.
February 2, 201214 yr Nats have tons of cash to spend, a fairly new stadium, and are very solid all around. They'd be the team I'd be worried about over the next decade as weird as it sounds to say that.
February 2, 201214 yr The NL East is turning into the AL East. Except nobody wants to be the Orioles.
February 2, 201214 yr Author The NL East is turning into the AL East. Except nobody wants to be the Orioles. Well too bad for the Mets
February 2, 201214 yr The NL East is turning into the AL East. Except nobody wants to be the Orioles. Well too bad for the Mets I was thinking the same thing... but the Mets have a new Stadium and let's face it... money. They're just stupid.
February 2, 201214 yr yeah ok edwin jackson. decent signing. 10-11 million for a guy who had a 1.48 WHIP and a .290 batting average against. all it takes is for a couple of jams that he doesnt get out of and there goes his ERA. I am baffled that people see Edwin Jackson and anything more than an innings eater. He had 1 good year in 2009.

February 3, 201214 yr Id venture to say that the Nationals have a rotation that has better guarantees than the Marlins, but the Marlins have a better upside. Of course, that all changes if Strasburg is a monster next season. More likely than not, their rotation will outpitch ours. But if we get exactly what we want and they get exactly what they want, I'd imagine ours is better. I'd say it's the other way around.
February 3, 201214 yr I'd say the only guy who is a sure thing is Buehrle. Everyone else is inconsistent (Nolasco), injury prone/injury history, (JJ, Anibal) or volatile (Z). And I definitely see their upside as higher, given all those young arms.
February 3, 201214 yr Depends what you think of Josh Johnson. If he's healthy, he's a sure thing. The healthy part is a big if, but it's a big if for the likes of Strasburg and Zimmermann, as well. Maybe the guarantee thing is a toss-up, but the Nationals rotation definitely has more upside.

You could get a star or you could get a dud. And then there's Zambrano lite, Ricky Nolasco. Although... you know my thoughts of him.
February 3, 201214 yr Edwin Jackson agreed to a one-year deal with the Nationals earlier this week after testing the free agent market for quite some time. Jackson could have landed a three-year, $30 million deal with Washington, but he opted for a shorter term contract in order to reestablish his value in 2012. Read more:http://baseball.real.../#ixzz1lLGTLb4T Honestly, who does Edwin Jackson think he is? If I was him I would have taken that and ran.

If not, he'll sign another 1 year deal in February of 2013 for way more than he's worth :lol
