I really dislike Rookie of the Year ... I realize it's a 12 year old playing Major League Baseball as a pitcher due to a freak surgery result, but the acting of the kid was so ... eh. And then the Cubs get to the playoffs because of this kid pitching [as a closer or starter? IDK, I couldn't really tell what exactly he did], and then he slips on a baseball, falls on his arm, and suddenly the surgery is negated, so he does stupid tricks [one of which was legally a balk, I believe] to get the guys out ... minus the Floater, I could see that one actually working. Then the Cubs win the World Series without him, even though the movie makes him out to be the only reason they got there.

I actually liked Little Big League more than Rookie of the Year. I liked how Ken Griffey in his prime was the main opponent throughout the movie.

Every year I play fantasy baseball with my brother and his friends, one of the team names is based on something he said in that movie.

You said that you could only see one of his "stupid tricks" actually working-implying that you think the other two tricks could never realistically work.

 

Additionally, you then said that the Cubs went on to win the World Series without him, even though "the only reason" why they even made the playoffs was because of the kid. That sentence implies that you believe the movie is unrealistic-as how could the Cubs win the World Series without the kid in the playoffs if "the whole reason" why they even made the playoffs was because of him?

OK, one line [the tricks part] is the only one implying realism, of which, like I said, I believe one was legally a balk.

 

The movie itself was basically saying, "the only reason the Cubs got here is because of this kid" and then he's not even able to play anymore and they still win. While possible, the movie only showed maybe one other situation where someone else actually made an impact for the Cubs, and that's when Rowengartner was on second base after drawing the 4 pitch walk and the batter drove in 2 runs with a hit in the gap. That's basically the only time you realize there's someone else playing on the Cubs besides Henry and the catcher, and a couple of starters.

 

I can't really go that much deeper into detail than I have, so I guess I'll stop here. *shrug*
