Something Positive About the 2013 Roster!

Alison Williams didn't get traded.

Sweet, beautiful Alison. She's responded to some of my tweets before. Does that mean she wants me?

I'm pretty sure that's in the official rules of Twitter.

Since this thread is supposed to be something positive, I'd say that the FO genuinely believes that (a) they can repeat the success of '03 with homegrown kids, other teams' prospects, and a few mid-level FAs, and (b) that such success will overcome fans' feelings of betrayal and fill the ballpark. Unfortunately for the FO, and maybe for us, the odds of even one of those results occurring, let alone both together, seem pretty darn slim. But the final positive thought is that if they can't pull this off, it could be the beginning of the end for the Loria ownership.

He never said anything about the 2013 team. If something like that were to happen, it wouldn't be for several years. But given the history of this ownership/mgmt group, there is zero reason to be optimistic about it happening.

I love the Marlins Facebook page keeps pimping this team as the next 2003 World Series squad asking what are expectations are. I also love the unrelentless responses from fans talking shit.

But the 2013 team doesn't really have the make-up whatsoever of the 2003 team. I'd even say that the 2006 team visibly had much better talent before the season began.

It seems like you didn't really read the whole thing.

The biggest problem is that there is no formula for simply recreating an '03 team. If there were, every team would do it. Young players are nowhere near predictable enough - there are even more variables and unknowns than with veterans. Even the most competent effort would be a long shot.

The tradition of baseball game attendance is born from consistent interest. There is nobody over 35 that grew up as a Marlins fan. Established older fans have complete viewing access to the teams from their old cities (and thus no inherent reason to bond with a new team). Winning will draw crowds. Continuing to win will build fans. Thick and thin does not get established until there some thick going on.

"Crowds" will raise payroll. "Money coming in will equal money going out." It's their mantra. Deal with it. But sometimes you have to invest to get that steady revenue stream coming in...

I don't think you would find one fan that would disagree with that. The FO tried it last year, and it failed. Now they are going back to their pre 2012 ways. This was predictable. At the end of this season most of us were thinking with our hearts and not our heads and that made the fire sale sting even more. But during last year's off season the "ifs" were predicted.

I was actually hoping they'd sell off some pieces.

The only one I'll miss is Jose Reyes.

They sold off the entire team. They could have corrected payroll without doing that and without shitting on fans again. They didn't lose the money they claim to have lost. Payroll wasn't astronomical and while attendance wasn't what they expected it wasn't terrible either. They didn't sell the naming rights which is on them. I wish I weren't on my stupid phone.

Like I said in a previous post, it depends on what their current defintion of "$$$ lost" is. If that definition is what I suspect it to be, then I can see those numbers adding up to the rumors being spread. But if it is the black and white version of this is what was spent and this is what came in, then I would tend to agree with you.

The ticket prices will be something positive. They are going to be super cheap on StubHub.

Probably. Problem is that there won't be that many on StubHub as there was last season.

Most improved and least improved teams. Not shocking, the Marlins are the least improved team.

Story. I find the quote from the AL executive to be rather funny.

How can they be any cheaper? I literally purchase 1st row tickets in several sections last season for under $5 a seat multiple times. I'm extremely glad I didn't buy season tix, I was able to sit everywhere all over the park and pay very little to do so...
