I think that attendance in 2013 will do better than expected at the moment. The franchise still has a destination stadium to market, plus Giancarlo Stanton and ummmm.....did I mention the stadium? Let's see how they market it. If I was involved in marketing in this situation I'd do my best to work from the bottom-up, and I don't mean the Clevelander, though I'd market that too as long as they stay open. In this town, if there's 5000 fan asses in seats in the bleachers(and in this place the worst seat is good)...that makes the more desirable seats more valuable. They do need to at least keep and even better for attendance sign Stanton asap.

You don't gut a team after 3 months and then whine that nobody showed up. The fans are just a convienient scapegoat in this situation for Loria and Samson.

 

I would also add that it doesn't matter what the attendance is. Loria is going to bring in something like $60 million even before gate receipts thanks to revenue sharing and the new MLB TV deal that all teams are getting a cut of.

It doesn't matter. The difference in attendance and max capacity wasn't significant, especially in the first 3 months. Its a bs excuse.I don't think that anybody is saying that the team was gutted mid-season because of attendance.

 

Anyway, by the end of May their record was 29-22. They were drawing like 30,000 or so on the weekends and 24,000 in the middle of the week. I'd say that difference is significant. The Marlins weren't drawing well when the team was doing well.

But is it also safe to say that while they would have still been mad, the pain and anger from his comments would have been that much more soothed by a winning product on the field? Sorry I dont buy the arguement that since the team had 1 really fantyastic month that attendance should have gone up.

They really weren't showing up as much as people think. Please see el penguino's post from earlier.

It will be interesting to see what the "reported" attendance in 2013 is vs. what actually happens. The only problem with the Stubhub $2.00 ticket buying theory is that someone has to buy them first to re-sell them. I hope to get a few bargains and go to a handful of games....but the 3 20-game plans I bought last year...forget it. Season ticket sales will drop by at least 50% or more.

They were going to take a major drop even without the payroll reduction. A lot of people bought partial plans last year in order to secure Opening Night tickets.
