November 25, 201312 yr I understand the Navarro thing... he's a gamble offensively but considering the deep hole that is Jeff Mathis followed by essentially another black hole Navarro is actually an upgrade. His arms and legs would literally have to fall off his body for him to be worse than Mathis offensively. I'd take the gamble. Hughes I'm not so sure of. Part of me says why bother? But then looking back at Kevin Slowey, Javier Vazquez, and a couple others in this same vein, I say why not? I'm the opposite as I'm not thrilled about Navarro. Hughes has shown flashes with the yankee's and is a fly ball pitcher which didn't suit his style well in Yankee's staduim. However in spacious Miami he could be a nice nabe to fill end the back end of the rotatoin.
November 25, 201312 yr Navarro has not been much of a power hitter in his career. I think last year was not a glimpse of things to come from him. That being said, he is a HUGE improvement over Mathis or Brantly. I also think that signing Hughes could wind up being a great move for the Marlins. He has always had good stuff. Not pitching in Yankees' stadium and to pitchers instead of DHs would do him a lot of good. That being said, I'm more interested in bringing in some solid hitters for 2013 and beyond.
November 25, 201312 yr I don't mind Navarro if he comes cheap, but I don't think he'll put up good numbers like he did last year. His home/road splits were pretty crazy.
November 25, 201312 yr I doubt anyone has a problem with him if he comes cheap but the problem is he may get overpaid like Buck did after coming off a career year.
November 25, 201312 yr I sure hope not unless he took a cheap deal which is unlikely considering this crazy market and his inflated 2013 stats.
November 25, 201312 yr I don't think he will get a Buck-like deal. I don't mind if they give him a decent contract though, because he's light years better than Jeff Mathis or Rob Brantly.
November 26, 201312 yr Author Outside of last season he's had more bad seasons than good. Catching is so awful right now though.... I bet he gets around 2/8 from whoever just in the hopes he can duplicate 2013.
November 26, 201312 yr He also hasn't been in more than 89 games since 2009 and at what he may get paid, less than that makes his deal even less favorable to a team.
November 26, 201312 yr I'd be very surprised if he didn't find a sucker to give him a multiyear deal.
November 26, 201312 yr So you guys would rather not sign a guy like Navarro and go with the putrid selection that the Marlins currently have behind the plate? Pierzynski and Saltalamacchia are pipe dreams! But, if the Red Sox sign another catcher......Ryan Lavarnway seems like a good trade target for the Fish.
November 26, 201312 yr I would rather not overpay for a catcher who has very little chance of producing like he did in 2013. If he comes cheap, sure sign Navarro but I doubt it.
November 26, 201312 yr Navarro will sign a 2-year deal for $8-10 Million, just my guess. If I had to pick a team, I say Marlins or Red Sox. Navarro would be a good compliment to either Jeff Mathis or David Ross. Phil Hughes is gonna get paid, btw. After JJ got a 1-year $8 Million deal and Dan Haren just signed a 1-year $10 Mill deal, I see Hughes getting something VERY similar to rebuild his value and go after a multi year deal next season.

November 26, 201312 yr Marlins looking at Scott Sizemore... this would be a nice minor league signing. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-marlins/marlins-blog/sfl-miami-marlins-scott-sizemore-blog-20131125,0,5517933.story?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+marlinsblog+%28Florida+Marlins+%7C+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs%29

Are you paying the salaries? No... I thought it was clear why I said that but I'll explain. The Marlins have a budget and limited payroll so committing an overpay would be a bad idea.

Pierzynski and Saltalamacchia are pipe dreams! But, if the Red Sox sign another catcher......Ryan Lavarnway seems like a good trade target for the Fish. I've decided that I don't want the Marlins to spend any significant money on a player outside of a Stanton extension. They won't compete next year and I'd rather see where most of the young talent stands. This free agent market sucks too. It's dumb to spend just because.

No need for him.

November 26, 201312 yr Solano does the things that don't show up on the stats boards. LOL That might be the most Bronco-bob-iest thing that Bronco Bob has ever posted! If it isn't a stat, it's not worth talking about and not happening. Gotcha. Talking about things like consistently hitting behind the runner to move him over, even if it means he is out at 1st. Not a sac, just shows up as an AB. It's just one of the things the coaching staff and others brag on him doing that isn't on any stat sheet.
November 26, 201312 yr Solano does the things that don't show up on the stats boards. LOLThat might be the most Bronco-bob-iest thing that Bronco Bob has ever posted! No, I think he's being very philosophical. If you could've scored a run but didn't because you suck, it will not show up on the scoreboard. He's so right. Maybe he means that Solano is the best at snapping towels in the shower room. Looks like you guys will have him to knock around for another year, unless he somehow loses his job in ST. Right now I don't see anyone taking it from him.
