MarlinsContinueTo ShowDomi
Marlins are interested in Phil Hughes. I wasn't aware he had been converted to play 3B? In all seriousness, I don't think Marls should waste a spot on the rotation on a guy like him at this point.
Guest Vince0926
I agree but then I think of the disaster that was Tom Koehler,
Undakai
It was a pipe dream that he'd be a Marlin anyway once the news hit that he was seeking about 100 mil. Nice dream. I fear we break camp with Mathis as the main catcher.Eh, honestly that wouldn't bother me too much. I'm not so down on Mathis, think he's a good signal caller, and with a young staff that counts for a lot IMHO (I honestly signal calling is a highly underrated but extremely valuable catching skill). Keep him in the 8 hole and upgrade elsewhere, particularly 3rd, SS and 2nd.
mystikol87
Via MLBTR, they've shown interest in Dioner Navarro and Phil Hughes.
Entendu
This is so Marlins. A pitcher we don't need and a catcher whose contract year was John Buck-like.

It guarantees a losing team. Hech clearly isn't going anywhere, so an upgrade at catcher offensively is a must.
Rydawg
Maybe their interest in Hughes means that they might be working on a trade to move one of our young pitchers for a position of need? If that is the case I'm not against it. I still think Hughes has upside, and in a move to the National League and our ballpark would be really good for him. gizmo
Phil Hughes. What a joke. Get me Saltalamacchia and Middlebrooks. With McCann gone, Salty is now the best catcher on the market. He gonna get paid, whether or not he deserves it.

May take them a bit, but if Hech continues to struggle and doesn't show improvement, he will be sent back down and they will be forced to look elsewhere. FO may be thickheaded, but they eventually figure things out. Fix SS, 3rd (Moran) and second first. Plus, I don't think there really is another catcher out there worth getting that's in our price range and constitutes a significant upgrade over Mathis (possibly in the rule-5, but as always that's a gambit). BroncoBob27
Like it or not, they feel 2B is covered. And SS. Look for a back up catcher and 3B at this point. Maybe 1B. Finding is a different story, seeing as they are looking for bats. FA signings aren't going to happen except for minor league deals with an invite for ST. Trades will probably happen, but we will lose pitching prospects for bat prospects. And only those that our club has control over for a few years. Hech is going to get every opportunity to compete at this level. Maybe by the trade dead line in July if he dosen't grow they will start looking elsewhere, but that job is his to lose. Solano does the things that don't show up on the stats boards, but that's still his job to lose in ST.

LOLThat might be the most Bronco-bob-iest thing that Bronco Bob has ever posted! No, I think he's being very philosophical. If you could've scored a run but didn't because you suck, it will not show up on the scoreboard. He's so right.
DolphinJohn
I wouldn't mind Navarro getting half or more of the time behind the plate. He may not have the season he did last year but he'd have to really fall off of that to not be a major improvement. Hopefully he could stay healthy all year too...... SilverBullet
I understand the Navarro thing... he's a gamble offensively but considering the deep hole that is Jeff Mathis followed by essentially another black hole Navarro is actually an upgrade. His arms and legs would literally have to fall off his body for him to be worse than Mathis offensively. I'd take the gamble. Hughes I'm not so sure of. Part of me says why bother? But then looking back at Kevin Slowey, Javier Vazquez, and a couple others in this same vein, I say why not?
pollythewog
I like Navarro and he's actually pretty solid defensively. His 18.8% HR/FB is completely unsustainable especially in marlins park though and if costs anymore than $10m over 2-3 years than no thank you
