Marlins trade/FA talk

Featured Replies

since we're on the topic of trade rumors/ideas.. I wouldn't mind trading Logan to Tampa Bay.. Curious as to what we'll be able to receive from them.

Terrible trade idea.

lol how come? After thinking about it, I don't think it's THAT terrible although maybe we give too much...

Fowler is basically a best case scenario for what Marsinick could be (Maybe jake has a little more pop on the best case). Mercer is a clear and significant upgrade over either Solano and Adeiny. There are worse ideas than us getting Mercer and Fowler for a good RP and 2 guys who we have no idea will ever be successful in mlb

We should trade him for yunel escobar

that would be a really good trade for the marlins. plus players at shortstop and center field. marisnick sucks. cishek is solid but a shortstop and centerfielder are way more valuable than a reliever. only real gamble is nicolino, and nobody rates him as an A+ prospect anyway.

but it won't happen.

Yes, Marisnick sucks. He was rushed to the big leagues way too damn early, didn't see consistent playing time, is 22 years old and still considered one of the team's best prospects.

He definitely sucks.

It's a horrible idea. Dexter Fowler sucks. Look at his splits away from Coors. We don't need outfield help. The rest would be too much to give up for Mercer. Besides, Adeiny plays a solid shortstop. There is no need to overpay for Mercer.

Adeiny does not play solid SS. He was absolutely horrendous in 2013. Mercer is light years ahead of him.

After seeing Fowler's stats, I agree with you there, although I still think Marsinick's best case scenario is Fowler.

Look, I'm not going to sit here and argue sabermetrics and stats with you. I'll respect your opinion but at the same token you will have to respect mine. I watched just about every game of last season, just like I do every season, and I can tell you that in my opinion Adeiny is very solid defensively. He is athletic , has great range, and a very strong arm. He makes the routine plays and the spectacular plays. Perry Hill who is well regarded as infield guru agrees with that assessment as per what I have seen in different articles. Baseball is played on a real field and not on a stat sheet. I will go as far as to say that Adeiny is capable of winning a gold glove and if he can ever hit enough to keep a regular starting job he will win one.

As for Marisnick, I don't know. I haven't seen enough to form an opinion. I do know that he is a highly regarded prospect and he is still very young. Time will tell with him. But hey, at least we agree on Fowler. LOL

I agree with you 100%. Some of these guys don't look beyond the black and white, so you'll never win that debate here... But I guess some people must not know enough about the game to see beyond the numbers occasionally.

His range to his right was absolutely horrendous last year but that is fixable most likely. I think he will improve to some degree defensively and I was more commenting on the bigger issue at hand; his his stellar .565 OPS and sparkling 50% caught stealing rate. For him to be worth a damn he's going to need to play both 3b and SS at the same time at a gold glove level. The guy is not a major league hitter and there's nothing in his professional history that says that will change anytime soon.

In the stats vs. the eye, the stats won't tell you if the player looks as if he will be good, only if he is already good. You eye, if you are suitably familiar with the game, can indicate that.

I agree that he has a long way to go on offense. Only time will tell if he will ever hit well enough to stick as a starter throughout his career. I'm not concerned with his stolen bases. I'm sure he will get better. His main problem is getting on base. It all comes down to pitch selection for him. I will say that I loved the way the ball came off of his bat when he was on that one hot streak last year. I think he will eventually hit enough. At least I hope so.

Maybe they could get Tim Beckham for him. I don't see the Rays dealing any pitching from the minor leagues, as they almost never do that.

I agree with this to some extent. I think hitting metrics, and pitching metrics have their merit. They can not only tell you how well someone has hit or pitched they can also be a good tool to forecast future performance. However, some young players do improve and will outplay their past performances. Where I don't agree with this statement is on the defensive metrics. I think they are flawed and they are forced on us by people who feel the need to quantify everything on a stat sheet. It's impossible to quantify into metrics if the baseball had backspin, or if the infield was wet and slowed a ball down, or if the grass was cut to make the field more slick, or if the player was positioned wrong by his coaches. There are just too many variables that can't be quantified into a stat to have a reliable fielding metric.

#marlins have batted around napoli and loney a bit. Like salty (west palm), Nap is local (hollywood, fla.) Product

Saltalamacchia sweepstakes down to Minnesota, Boston, & Miami.. According to Barry Jackson

Decision could come as early as this week

Blue Jays-Official @BlueJays

C J.P. ARENCIBIA was non-tendered and becomes a free agent.

This is wishy washy. Salty is from the area but twins are at least attempting at making upgrades, possibly swaying him. I want salty to come here but I see him on twins. Arencibia maybe coming here....or Boston.
