Bret Hart
Padres get Kimbrel and Melvin Upton, jr. (Upton bros. reunited again) Braves get Maybin, Quentin, prospect Matt Wisler, Jordan Paroubeck and 41st draft pick. Any cash wasn't involved in this deal. Padres GM is so genius and nut. MrMarlinPride
Wait, so in one offseason the Padres got an outfield of Kemp, Upton, Upton and Wil Myers?!? How in the hell did that happen...

Das Texan
They didnt fix their biggest issue with this deal tbh. (and they really are unable to do so)

Bret Hart
I don't understand Braves' move. Maybin and Quentin are not regular players definitely One of most dominant closer has traded by that price. Might be Melvin's contract was issued?
Das Texan
their inability to play defense well.

SilverBullet
Hearing Atlanta is already considering DFAing Quentin just to see if an AL club will take him. How embarrassing for Quentin. The very definition of a throw in guy. Atlanta thinks Maybin has a role as a part time CF but this thing was totally "you take Melvins entire contract and give us a smidgen of an additional return and you can have Kimbrel." End of story. SilverBullet
AJ Preller is NOT messing around this year. If I'm a Padres fan I'd be somewhat worried because this is so similar to the 2012 Marlins disaster. Bud Black is so crucial to this experiment. He may be the only thing holding this patchwork ship together.

Eh, they've filled a lot of holes, but their infield still sucks all around and their outfield defense is going to be beer league softball. Their bullpen was already a strength, this just makes it more of a strength. They still have three statues in the outfield, four questionable Major Leaguers in the infield, and a bunch of question marks in the rotation. Das Texan
Wil Myers is a statue in the outfield? ...the rest I'm with ya though. Wil Myers isnt a center fielder. I dont think I'd necessarily call Justin Upton and Matt Kemp as statues in the outfield, but they arent amazing. The infield defense (aside from Alonso) may not be all that great. Norris behind the plate has been horrid defensively over his career.
