What would it take for you not to be a fan of this team anymore?

That stuff about the charity really worries me about the passion the players have for their own team.

“They thought they had a great outfield and that was a terrible overestimation,” the scout said. “Marcell Ozuna has gotten fat and doesn’t move as well offensively or defensively. Yelich is a decent player but it was unrealistic to think that he would all of a sudden become a .300 hitter. For them to enter this season counting on [since-released] Jarrod Saltalamacchia to turn it around was ridiculous.

“Steve Cishek got by for years not only on angle ability but the fact he could throw hard from that angle. Now that he’s lost his velocity, he’s much easier to track and there’s not much difference between his off-speed stuff and fastball. Mike Dunn is a power guy that can’t locate and doesn’t have as much power as he used to. I thought Bryan Morris would be better than this, but there’s a reason Pittsburgh lets guys go.

“Jarred Cosart is a bottom of the rotation guy, nothing special. Coming home was the worst thing that could happen to Mat Latos, with his friends telling him how good he is. He isn’t the pitcher he was. He thinks throwing hard is the answer and it’s not; good hitters can hit fastballs if you don’t locate.Henderson Alvarez’s stuff isn’t good enough to be a No. 1 starter. He’s a two or three.”

That third scout said owner Jeffrey Loria mistakenly “judges guys off their best possible years and overlooks their bad years,” citing John Buck and Saltalamacchia, among others.

“They need more contact hitters,” that scout said. “You need some guys to get on base consistently, move runners over. Dee Gordon obviously can do that and Martin Prado is very good at that. But they don’t have enough guys who can do that. Quality pitchers can get Giancarlo Stanton out. [He’s hitting .239.]

"Morse is a mistake hitter. We talked about Ozuna. They need to play [catcher] J.T. Realmuto [.219] but he’s going to be an average player. It’s an easy lineup to pitch to. They have to self-examine how they build a team.”

Interesting. Was this the thought before the season when everyone was lauding the moves they made? Even more props if they thought this before the season.

Jennings becoming the manager removes the buffer that Redmond had in the clubhouse. The move so far no brought zero results. Makes you wonder if they rough it out with Jennings or they fold and go another route.

Yup.  thats an important role of the manager.

But apparantly the Marlins feel that doesnt matter.

That article is spot on.  I like Ozuna but I think he was being very overrated when people said we had the best outfield in baseball.  Yelich will turn it around, anyone who watched him last year and throughout his career knows he can hit.  I think his back is worse than he lead on.  Ozuna on the other hand is nothing special to me.  Not nearly consistent enough with the bat.  He is a 6th hitter at best with a great team, more likely 7th.

Our lineup is filled with guys who don't have good ab's and don't make contact and its been this way for years.

I feel like all this shit is easy to say amidst a horrible losing streak. Either this is a really shitty scout, or Jeffrey Loria banged his wife or something and he's holding a grudge. Yelich has consistently been praised by scouts for his hitting ability and glove. I think he's more than 'decent'. I don't think that 2 months of slightly below average Ozuna defense is enough to worry about. If he indeed is getting fat, then the Marlins will do something about that. Quality pitchers can get anyone out - so that comment on Stanton is stupid. They want to shit on our outfield, so they make dumb comments like that. Stanton's accumulated 1.2 WAR this season so far - mostly attributed to his bat.

The Steve Cishek theory may be true, but history has shown that his velocity increases as the season goes by. Granted, it's lower now than it was this time last year, but this isn't exactly a Heath Bell situation yet. But again, it's easy to shit on every player on this team when things are going bad.

"Mike Dunn is a power guy that can’t locate and doesn’t have as much power as he used to. I thought Bryan Morris would be better than this, but there’s a reason Pittsburgh lets guys go."

What the fuck? Dunn is inducing more GB's than he has ever in his career and he's walking less than he ever has. His issue is that his HR/FB is at 10.5% when it would usually sit at 6%. His LD% is below his career average at 18.4%. His hard-hit % in general is 16.3%; well below his career average of 32%. His medium-hit % has spiked to 69.4% when it's been at 49.5% in his career. To say he's not locating his pitches is talking out of the ass. The one thing you could argue is that his velocity is slightly lower than last year's. His FB velocity is 0.3 mph lower than last year. His 2-seamer is 0.8 mph lower. SL is 1.1 mph lower. Curve is 1.8 mph lower. But even then, this scout makes it seem like he's pitching high 80's. Fuck him.

And what about Bryan Morris? Yea, there's a reason Pittsburgh let him go: to get a competitive balance pick, you prick. Advance stats have Morris pitching better this year than last year. FIP and xFIP are at 3.5 and 3.6 respectively while his ERA is a 4.22. Last year he had an ERA under 2, an FIP over 4 and a xFIP of 3.65.

Cosart isn't very good. We all know that, but I believe there's potential for him to be a middle of the rotation guy, and not just a backend guy.

I love the Hendo comment. He's not supposed to be a #1. He's a #2. Our #1 is injured.

I'm not going to get into how Dee Gordon is playing above his head. Prado is making less contact, especially at pitches outside of the strike zone (75% this year as opposed to 80% last year, and 83% the years before). That's his issue. So the players he compliments are the ones who - relative to those he mentions in these shitty blurbs - should be scrutinized further.

And what the fuck does a mistake hitter mean? Are pitchers suddenly not making mistakes to Morse anymore? Fuck this guy.

Seriously, fuck this guy.

EDIT: this is not to say that this team is going to turn it around. Don't get it twisted, I think we're fucked. However, it pisses me off that you've got a scout coming out trashing this team all as-a-matter-of-factly. Beyond Latos (who was always a gamble), you couldn't have predicted this crap

Well said @Entendu

It's easy during an eight game losing streak to say how much everyone sucks same way that during our positive offseason it was easy to say how great we would be. This is the kind of stuff that MLB network and other sports media lives off of.
