November 9, 201510 yr I have to start drilling into my head now how bad of an idea it is to get Fister, Cespedes, Napoli, and Lee so that when they get here I don't fall under their magical spell and then when Spring Training fever hits I'm all "this team is soooo goooooood!" I swear if that's the extent of our acquisitions we're doomed.
November 9, 201510 yr shameless ass plug... nice article I mean, when you're at the point where you're wearing an ass plug, why have any shame?
November 11, 201510 yr ### Though nothing is imminent, Colby Lewis, Tim Lincecum and Scott Kazmir are among several free agent pitchers that intrigue the Marlins as they search for one or two starters to join Jose Fernandez, Jarred Cosart and Tom Koehler. As ESPN's Jason Stark noted, the Marlins are seeking a No. 2 starting pitcher for outfielder Marcell Ozuna. They could keep him if they don't get that. Barry Jackson, Miami Herald. Only name I like is Kazmir of course but I don't see that happening. Also doesn't make sense to go with both Cosart and Koehler.
November 11, 201510 yr I've been team Zimmermann/Samardzija since the start. That's approximately $200 million

Kazmir I've heard before. Lincecum was a personal guess by me a few months ago. This guy forgot to mention Fister.
November 11, 201510 yr I think they are going to sign JA Happ since their acquisition of Benedict. He did well in Pitt last year, didn't embarrass himself in 2014, and will likely get a 1-2 year cheaper deal. He's probably a more than competent # 4 and would give them two lefties with Nicolino. I think he's a much smarter idea than dropping $100+ on Zimmerman or $60+ on Chen. I like Kazmir too here, but just expecting them to defer to the cheaper option Benedict has worked with already. As for the other spot, I have no idea what they intend to do but the need a #2 SP. I think Samardzija makes a lot of sense, but they think he is going to make $70-80 million. That's a lot. Gallardo is close to that range also and don't love him as a potential 2. I like Mike Leake, but I don't see the overwhelming upside. He's a solid and safe 3, especially with his age, but its a pass for me at the $70 million expectation. Marlins can't afford those prices unless they are getting a guy with big upside. Cueto, Greinke, etc. would be awesome, but not worth $140+ million. My guess is Ian Kennedy. He seems like a guy with frontline starter ability (9.29 K/9 last 369 innings), but will come a little cheaper. I see him projected in $40-50 range for 4 years. He seems like a guy Benedict tweaks and makes awesome. Worked for all those other Pittsburgh guys lately. Fernandez, Kennedy, Happ, Cosart, Nicolino, with Alvarez hopefully in June (I don't believe reports he'll be ready earlier and don't think they should rush him), Phelps in the bullpen, Urena waiting in the wings, and Koehler traded for a bullpen lefty. It's not overwhelming, but there is upside potential and its economical. I'm not into Price fantasies. I think I'm ok with this all things considered. The season will still be make or break on Stanton staying healthy, Yelich and Ozuna being more like 2014, and Gordon and Hech not completely falling apart. Can always get a starter in July too. We'll see.
November 11, 201510 yr No need to keep Koehler if we intend on having Cosart as well, we can free up the project $3million along with Dunn and that is $5 million going to FA starter. Kennedy would be a nice pickup. Solid stuff.
November 11, 201510 yr No need to keep Koehler and Cosart if we actually get the two SP upgrades we need. But since we're probably not getting shit past Doug Fister it'd probably be smart to keep both TK and Cosart.

November 11, 201510 yr Im pretty sure Cosart is the marlins idea of a "#2" SP Reading this provides a sinking feeling ..... Truly, seriously, what did d-mizzle get himself into?
November 12, 201510 yr That's approximately $200 million I was assuming Zimmermann would get over $100 million, but I'm imagining after the season Samardzija just had, he will warrant a 1 year, say $10 million kind of "prove it" kind of contract before going into the market next year. What better place to do it than in Miami where there will be relatively few eyes judging him and lower expectations than there have been for him in the past.
November 12, 201510 yr Author All I know if Alvarez better be tendered. Chances are better today than they were last week. Not sure why but yeah.

Samardzija projected to get 4-5 years at over $15-18 per season. But I agree if he was to only get a 1 year deal, this is a good spot with the ballpark, team defense, and weaker NL East offenses.
November 18, 201510 yr Looks like they will have to wait for Cueto, Price, Grienke and Zimmerman to sign before the market settles on the 2nd Tier of pitchers. I think the FA signing will be a lot like last year in the sense that most of the action will happen on the second day of the Winter Meetings.
November 18, 201510 yr Author Admin should great a new poll and change the options to Aaron Harang, Doug Fister, Kyle Kendrick, Colby Lewis and Tim Lincecum.
November 18, 201510 yr I feel like I already know the answer to this but what are the Marlins stances on keeping/trading Koehler/Ramos? Both should be gone this offseason but knowing the Marlins we all wait till they struggle and trade them for pennies on the dollar.

Koehler unlikely to be moved Ramos could be moved for the right package but isn't being actively shopped
November 18, 201510 yr just looking at TK's pitch selection last year, what's with the shitty ass 2 seamer he threw 416 times
November 18, 201510 yr Ramos could be moved for the right package but isn't being actively shopped Wait until Mish reads this post and then immediately tweets out "Marlins actively shopping AJ Ramos"
